Brainscan

Just watched this movie again last night. I love the opening sequence. At first it seems like it could be a lame kids movie but the director lets you know right away they aren't f'kin around. I dig the nods to Fangoria, Rob Zombie, Iron Maiden and all the classic horror posters in the kids room. That kid could be any one of us horror freaks from the CC. A great 80's horror flick with a pretty hot female lead, decent gore and a little T&A to go along with it.

It's a decent movie but the whole video game / virtual reality stuff dates it badly.

BTW, does anyone know what happened to T. Ryder Smith, the guy who played the main baddie? Has he been in anything else?

That girl bordered on looking like a dude, Floy.

I remember watching it a long time ago. Thought the same about that game/reality thing and the guy on the cover looked quite ridiculous, but I liked it. I was also surprised by the fact that this is a horror movie that warns horror fans against the so-called effects of horror movies on teenagers - at least from what I remember...

Yeah it had that kind of message going on. It was both a love letter to horror films (what with all the nods to Fango and genre stuff) and a warning against them. Way schizophrenic ...

A rather inauspicious debut from the dark writer extraordinaire Andrew Kevin Walker, who penned SEVEN a short time later. Fun, though. Haven't seen it in years.

Heh, didn't know that! Pretty cool ... AKW isn't all that great, though. SE7EN is awesome and a masterpiece but the guy also wrote the turd that was 8MM and the rather pedestrian THE GAME as well as Tim Burton's SLEEPY HOLLOW, which looked gorgeous but sucked in the story department, for which AKW is to blame.

Of course, those projects you mention were all extensively rewritten, Wetbones. 8MM was sizably different in its original form, and AKW loathes the film version, laying the blame solely at Joel Schumacher's feet. Walker himself actually just did a smal rewrite on THE GAME (which was the brainchild of Ferris and Brancato, the hacks who wrote THE NET), and SLEEPY HOLLOW was riffed off Kevin Yagher's original script.

SEVEN is entirely his, and the film hews close to his first draft, to boot!

Great stuff. RR I gotta disagree man. I think she looks pretty hot. She's got a great body.

I didn't mean "great" in the sense that it's a great film just that it's a great time for me when I watch it. I like the voyeuristic aspect of it for some reason.

I like this movie quite a bit. the thing is, if you saw it n the big screen, the whole first person murder thing was actually pretty cool. It dates, sure... but when your entire vision is taken by this segment, and the sounds are movie theatre loud, it really gets your bloo racing. It felt very immersive on the big screen, and I have loved this flick ever since.

I'm going to put my love for this movie out there too. Trickster had to be the best dressed horror villian of the 80's.

Definitly dug this flick. Wish I had a horror club in school

Bite your tongue, man, that movie's brilliant! I think it's at leat in the same league as Se7en. That movie was such a twisted mindfuck, and had a surprise ending that was actually surprising. The Game is a classic.

Oh yea!

I saw this in theaters when I was 14 with my buddy....and my mom. Hey, it was rated R! We were the only 3 people in the theater. It was the Saturday after it opened, and by Monday it was gone.

This movie was the my introduction to Fangoria, I went out of my way to find the actual issue that has the Brainscan ad in it in the film...the ad isn't really there. Oh well.

Still liked the movie.
