Tomie another face.....is it that bad?

While looking around for a movie or two to pick up tonight I decided to pick up Tomie Rebirth. While looking I also found a copy of Tomie Another Face. I picked it up, but haven't opened it as of yet. Most of the reviews I have read on the net have not been kind, and I didn't realize that it was actually a made for tv movie.

The idea of an anthology made it sound very promising, but with all the negitve reviews I have seen I am not sure if I should keep it, or return it, wait for the fifth movie in the series to be released, and pick up something different instead.

So, anybody out there see this entry in the Tomie series, or know anything about it?

On a completly different note, also picked up Onibaba. Is it as good as I have heard?....

ONIBABA is one of the best horror movies ever made and can easily stand among such classics as THE EXORCIST, TCM, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD etc. You won't regret picking it up. I hope you got the new Criterion DVD which is a vast improvement over the previous release.

As for TOMIE, I have only seen the first two. The first makes absolutely NO sense at all and is only worth the purchase for the pretty cool making of documentary. I love the second one, TOMIE REPLAY, though, which is a great addition to the growing list of awesome Japanese horror films. TOMIE REBIRTH should arrive in my mailbox any day now ...

Is Rebirth really that good? I have passed up the Tomie movies many times becasue they look so damned cheesy to me. I'd rather get Death Bed.

I can only speak for REPLAY which I heartily recommend to any horror fan. It is not quite up there with other Asian horror greats such as RINGU, TALE OF TWO SISTERS or AUDITION but it is damn solid genre fare and considering you can find it for as low as $12 it's a must buy IMO.

But if you have to decide between a TOMIE flick and DEATH BED by all means go for the latter. Great, surreal, morbid, poetic film!

Death Bed: The Bed that Eats?

Because I've seen a newer, crappier version around (haven't actually seen either, but hear the old ones a surreal classic, the new one sucks).

I sure hope he's talking about DEATH BED - THE BED THAT EATS. The other one was produced by Stuart Gordon but is reportedly a total crapfest. They are also completely unrelated to each other.

I got the stuart gorden death bed and it is a crapfest. Worth watching just to laugh at it and there are a few hot chicks but thats all.

Well, I viewed the first of the 'Tomie' films this evening. I have to say that it was pretty good. There are a couple of creepy moments. However the were intersperced with long stretches of tedium in the beginning.

I liked the concept.

I need to see the others. I'm considering a review. It's been awhile. So I'm due.
