Hell yes, I'm bringing it up already. Who's in?

Starving Dog, are you up for running it again in Yahoo!? Let me know what I can help with (inputting stats, players, etc.) and I will.
I'd like to have another go. It was fun last time.

Sure, I'll run it again. I'd like to have at least 10-teams this year instead of just 8, though.
go for 12-much better. But 10 is better than 8.

I'll sign up again.

I call Jesse "The Bachelor" Palmer.

I like to join as many fantasy leagues as possible because I can't get enough of the between sundays tweaking that I love to do. I missed it last year, hell ya im down for it this year.

I would love to do 12 teams, but with 12 teams the talent pool gets very diluted, which I will accept as long as all 12 people are serious about it every week. I have played in leagues where one guy just loses interest after 3 weeks and has 3 star players rotting on his bench because he never updates his roster.

I say no more than 10. I've played in a few 12-team leagues, and it's a helluva lot harder coming back from losing a star player when the talent pool is as slim with a 12-team league than with 10- or 8-team leagues.
the reason we only had 8 last year is because only 8 volunteered, if I remember correctly. Let's say no more than 12 and then see how many folks are interested. Hell it's only June anyway. I could get banned between now and when the season starts.
I would love to get in a CHUD Fantasy Football League.

Please, count me in.

I'm down.
I'm in. Usually just join a yahoo public league and get stuck with 3-4 managers who quit after they do poorly in the draft. Would be fun to be in a competitive league for once.
we did pretty good last year with no one really giving up.

We do a live draft (last year it was in the Chud chat room) and last year everyone showed up on time except one person who was late because of school and still ended up with a strong team.

If we get everyone from last year back plus 2 more we are good to go.
Here are last years 8 teams

Anyawatchin Angel
Burke
Starving Dog
Sammy Jankis
Gio Angles
A-Pathetic
Martianman
JWinge1

I think they should have number one priority.

so far, Martianman, Sammy Jankis, Anyawatchin Angel and myself have responded. We'll wait to hear from each of them.

and new people include Fazer, Flyarz, Richard Dix and Southern.

Flyarz is guaranteed a spot. If all the original members want back in, I'm willing to go 12 teams to allow everyone in.

Just remember, it's a live online draft, so make sure you can clear time to make it to that.

I feel so special!

Me please?
I'm in, but I'll need someone to bump this thread in August to remind me.
Yeah, I'm in. I'm gonna need something to wash the taste of my baseball ass kicking out of my mouth.
I LOVE LIVE DRAFTS.

I thought it might be too much of a headache to schedule for all of us which is why i didnt suggest it. But its so much fun doing it live.
i'd like to join in if there's any room available.
i'd love to join, but living in europe, it could be a bitch to schedule the live draft so that i can be in it. any idea what time you'd be having it?

It seemed like the best time last year was 7 pst / 10 est
post #21 of 331
The Kurt Warner pick from last year was my favorite.

Of course I'm in... gotta defend my title!
i'll join. Since the Eagles will break my heart, I can only hope my fantasy team does not.

I'm ready and willing!

Not as good as Drew Bledsoe being the first QB taken.

Don't worry about the bumping of the thread in August, I plan to discuss FF from now through, well, this time next year.

And speaking of which...I've made a few trades in my ESPN Keeper league that I'm proud of... I've got Shaun Alexander, Hines Ward, and Marvin Harrison as my 3 keepers for 2004. Woo hoo!
Bledsoe's season was, above all else, a result of the complete lack of an O line.

Rot in hell, Burke!

At least I had Jeff Garcia backing him up...oh wait. Never mind.
Looks like 15 people. I'm bet you could get 2 leagues going of atleast 10 if not 12.

that's about 4 o'clock in the afternoon over here. hey, if you have a free spot in the league when it's time to pick, i'd be glad to join. it'd be fun for you to have a foreigner in it - it would give the league a sort of global vibe.

Only if you don't insist on calling it "American football". It's just football, dammit!
It is nice to see so many people are interested. My excitement is growing. I think im going to go buy espn nfl football for my brand new xbox just to satiate my hunger a bit.

As far as bledsoe, he broke my heart last year. I had him pegged to take me far in my keeper league. Luckily I picked up hasselback in the late rounds, which I was very proud of, unfortunately seattle didnt ramp up the air game until late in the season. QBs have been my demise the last 3-4 years of fantasy football for me.
Count me in as well if there's room.
Here is what we got

Returning from last years league
Martianman
Sammy Jankis
Anyawatchin Angel
Starving Dog
JWinge1
A-Pathetic
Burke (defending champion)
- still have not heard from Gio.

Here are the new ones
Fazer
Richard Dix
Flyarz
Southern
Gistmeister
hell pAso
slowpulse
Archangel Ninja
Johnny Daywalker
sweaterbydarwin

That makes it 17 people (not including Gio.)

Here is what I propose. I can set up 2 leagues. 10 in each league. In league one, we have the 8 teams returning from last year and two new owners (maybe base it on length of time on Chud).

The second league will comprise of the other 10 new teams. There will be two drafts, one for each league. I will be there for the second draft to monitor and enter it in the Yahoo league and will keep track of both leagues.

Leagues will go for 15 weeks, with the 15th week the Championship game. Then in Week 16, the two champions play each other for bragging rights. There is a STRONG possibility that the two teams playing might have a couple of the same players, but that should not matter because the deeper team would win.

That final game would just be for bragging rights. The winners of the individual championship games (week 15) would be that league's champion.

Sound good? We would still need 3 teams (or Gio and 2 more) but with all the interest, that should not be a problem.
I was thinking the same thing w/ the 2 leagues with the Champs meeting for an ultimate winner.

While I love the idea of keeping the 8 teams from last year another possibility is spilitting the teams up 4 and 4 and filling out the rest by sign on date. There might be more rookie owners w/ the newer people signing up and this way both leagues have a equal balance.

What scoring system will we use? Last year's was good but I feel it favored RB's alot. WR rarely rush the ball and alot of RB catch a ton. Plus WR TD's were only 4. IMO Rushing and Recieving TD's should be equal(6 pts) and the QB can stay the way it was.

Just wanted to put that out there so we can get it out of the way early.
raising receiving TDs to 6 pts is fine with me

the reason I thought we could have all last years teams in teh same division, is because we are one year more experienced with our scoring system and kind of know each others drafting tendencies.

I figured putting all the newbies in the same division would make them more balanced and let them build their strengths through the season to compete with - - - I am sounding pretty smug right not about us aren't I?

What does everyone else think?
I like the system that you propose Starving.

I don't want to mess with any chemistry or rivalries you guys built last year. I like just having one with the "newbies" even if we all arent newbies to the fantasy football game.

Also, all tds should be worth 6 points. The tweaking should occur when it comes to the YAC, or rushing yard points. What was your guys' scoring system last year?

well, in real football, we actually only use our feet, whereas your version features a prominent dose of carrying and throwing, so technically you guys have no right calling it "just" football; you ought to have called it ovalball right from the start, or something like that.

but you know what say: when in rome.... so yeah, i'll only refer to it as football, here. i promise.
i'm fine with idea of having a "newby" league. i'm curious though: what kind of line-up do you guys usually have? 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K and 1 DEF/ST?
That's it, slowpulse. It worked pretty well.

I'm not sure about all touchdowns counting 6. If a my quarterback throws to my receiver for a td, do I get 12 points plus yardage?

Newby division sounds fine. And I didn't even realize that we didn't get 6 pts for a receiving TD last year. I usually go by the ESPN "traditional" scoring rules. 4 pts for a player throwing a TD, and 6 pts for any other kind (rushing receiving, returns, etc.). I just hate the "minus points" system where you get -2 for INTs and fumbles, negative points for a D not holding a team under 28 points, etc. Just give me positive points, or zero, and I'm happy. Sandbox did it that way, and it would drive me crazy. I had Culpepper one year, and for every TD he threw, he threw at least 1 INT. Which essentially cancelled each other out.

Also, on the player front, Tim Couch was officially cut by the Browns. So all you guys who had him in your Top 5 QBs, keep that in mind.
yeah, but maybe he'll end up in green bay and we all know how injury-prone farve is, right?

right.

(will the draft go down snake-style? meaning that whoever choses first one round, gets to pick last the following round and then first again and so on...)
Nebie division is fine. Besides I want redemption.

QB's TD's wouldn't count for 6 pts. They were 3 or 4pts last year.

And the draft was snake style. 1-10, 10-1.

1 pt per reception

5 - FG over 50 yds

2 WR
1 TE
1 K
1 DEF
8 reserve players
so you guys play with team defenses huh...i have started to really like playing with 3-4 actual defenseman, but its ok, i think there enough good team defenses in the league to support 8-12 fantasy teams.

As far as all tds being 6, and the fear of giving a guy 12 points for having the passer and the reciever, save for peyton and marvin harrison, its usually a no no to have two heavily intertwined players like that playing the same week on your team, at least in my experience. And if other teams allow you to get peyton AND marvin harrison, the league just wasnt paying attention.
Well we only had 8 teams last year, so they were all pretty stacked.

And Starving Dog, I think our defense scored differently last year. We got some points for a shut out, a few less if they held below 7 and a few less (but still some) if they held below 14.

I was not sure. I know in my main money league that I run, we had a rotating scale based on points surrendered (10 max down to 0 for a really bad performance) and yards surrendered. Did we do that in our league too?

How dare you badmouth Sandbox, which was far and away the best fantasy site when it was free. Culpepper was a God there, too. Fumbles/INTs were only -2, and throwing a TD was 3 and rushing was 6, as well as the generous points for yardage. Just Culpepper's rushing yardage normally cancelled out any and all negatives for those other 2 items.
if we do this thing with two leagues, could we consider having promotions/relegations? meaning for instance that the 4 best fantasy coaches from the newbie league will go to the "pro" league next year, and the 4 most pathetic losers from there will be relegated to the newbies?

just a thought.

I started badmouthing Sandbox after they tried to make me pay for their "free" fantasy games. It would take days sometimes to get your stats accurately when I used to play the free leagues (Baseball, Football, and Basketball, but especially football). They even advertised a "free" Arena Fantasy League this past season, and it turned out you still had to pay to "join" Sandbox to play their "free" game. It was light years ahead of CBS/Sportsline, though. It was nice when it was free, but unless they could prove to me that a bunch of stuff would improve, I'll pay to play on ESPN, or take Yahoo's free game.

Can't log onto CHUD from work anymore, but I can definitely do it again this year.

I'll gladly fill in that last reserved slot, only this time, I won't get beat in the playoffs.
