It was light years ahead of CBS/Sportsline, though. It was nice when it was free, but unless they could prove to me that a bunch of stuff would improve, I'll pay to play on ESPN, or take Yahoo's free game.
Yeah, they did go in the crapper that last year. I loved Sandbox though, and was pretty upset when my keeper leagues that had been going for 4 years blew up when they asked for money. In baseball I had Unit, A-Rod and Oswalt. In football I had Culpepper and a stud RB, don't remember which one.

I think the idea of promoting and demoting from the leagues sounds good on the surface, but do you really think that enough people will play again next year that it will really make sense? It seems to be happening this year, but once you get that many people I'd be surprised if it kept happening. Heck, I'll be surprised just to see owners active for most of the season.

count me in on the league, definitly
If you have room in the newbie league, I'd like to get in on some CHUD football action.
I just want to make sure all the new guys who want to play will stick with it all season. A few of you are new to posting on Chud and I would not want to have a case where people just disapear in the middle of the league.

This is another reason I wanted all the returning players in the same league.

Also, make sure you will be able to be available for the draft when we have it.
im in it for the long run.
I'm in it to win it.

Great points. Who knows who will stick around but the Chud baseball league I'm in has 1 or 2 new Chuddies at the time and it was no problem. Looks like 20 teams now. Very cool. Redemption is mine.
i'll stick in it til the end. so don't worry about me.

And coincidentally, I received an e-mail from the "new" owners of Sandbox asking me to check them out again. Apparently now, you pay 1 fee, and you get to play every fantasy game that they have available (football, baseball, basketball, etc.). It's $4.95/mo., or $49.50 for the year (that's like getting 2 months for FREE!, according to the site). Still don't know if it's worth it.

4. Starving Dog

9. Flyarz
10. Johnny Daywalker

League Two - Newbies

League One is aces in my book. However, I am going to send out reminders for League Two at the beginning of August to make sure you are all still here. A couple of you are pretty new and I want to make sure we have a full draft in plenty of time to find replacements if we have to.

Flyarz and Johnny Daywalker - You ready to play with the big boys?
sounds good to me.
I like it. I think from the sounds of all the previous posts, the newbie league is going to be pretty damn competitive as well.

This is going to be through the yahoo fantasy site right? And I can't wait for the live draft!!!
yep. the leagues will be ran through yahoo, seperate threads will be created here for smack talk and the live drafts should take place in the Chud Chat room like last year.

Is that the draft order too? If so, I'm happy with it.
I like that for the order, too. And the snake format works really well, but if I'm going second, I'd vote against it.

edit: Anyone remember the final standings from last year? I can't remember if I finished 3rd or 4th.

I'm going to win.

See, if you don't win, nobody ever remembers where you actually finished.

There's a lesson there kids, and the lesson is: Never try.

Hell , in the big money league I run, the winner of the losers bracket gets first pick the next year (and $25 and a toilet bowl trophy)

Some advice, oh fellow FFL'ers...I'm in a keeper league in ESPN, and we just finished selecting our "Keepers" for 2004. That leaves us with a quite different talent pool than if we were starting from scratch. My question to you is, who would you pick with your first draft pick, if you were in my situation? Here's my stats:

Keeper: Shaun Alexander (RB), Marvin Harrison (WR), Hines Ward (WR)

2nd pick in a snake-draft

Guy with the first pick already has Ahman Green, Ricky Williams, and Donovan McNabb as his keepers, so he's most likely going for a WR with his first pick. I'm shooting for another stud RB with my first pick, then will go for a QB Here's the Top 20 (as ranked by ESPN.com) in our league available:

1Fred Taylor, JACRB
2Stephen Davis, CARRB
3Kevan Barlow, SFRB
4Corey Dillon, NERB
5Rudi Johnson, CINRB
6Travis Henry, BUFRB
7Tiki Barber, NYGRB
8Chad Johnson, CINWR
9Santana Moss, NYJWR
10Anquan Boldin, ARIWR
11Steve Smith, CARWR
12Joe Horn, NOWR
13Matt Hasselbeck, SEAQB
14Thomas Jones, CHIRB
15Derrick Mason, TENWR
16Brian Westbrook, PHIRB
17Darrell Jackson, SEAWR
18Michael Bennett, MINRB
19Koren Robinson, SEAWR
20Todd Heap, BALTE

I'm seriously leaning towards Fred Taylor, but the injury factor keeps me worried. My 2nd choice would be Rudi Johnson, and 3rd would be Corey Dillon or Travis Henry. Your thoughts?
If you are looking for a stud running back, I think Corey Dillon would be the first choice from that list. Being a Patriot now is going to reenergize him, not that he sucked last year, but he is going to put forth a full effort now.

I think he is giong to have a huge year and is only going to help that Pat offense burn more and more defenses.

I would stay away from Taylor due to injuries. The only other one I would seriously consider is Stephen Davis. He had a huge year last year, but with DeShaun Foster on the bench, who proved his worth. I dont think the panthers will hesitate to give Davis some more plays off this season.

Rudi is the wild card here. I think it depends on how Carson Palmer handles his first year starting. But I dont think he would be a bad pick...so if i were to rank i would say

Dillon, Rudi, Davis
I would take either Fred Taylor or Corey Dillon. I love Taylor and last year he remained healthy. Remember when Issac Bruce was always injured then when he got healthy, he had three of the best years at wide receiver you could wish for. When healthy, Taylor is top of the line. I like Dillon too. But New England is not much of a running team, but that is because of their poor choices I think.

Tough choice. I would take Taylor, but more people I think would take Dillon.

Re: CHUD Fantasy Football circa 2004

i wouldn't worry too much about taylor. he's proven himself the past 2 season's that he can remain healthy. i'd probably take either him or dillon. too tough to say. neither are really the biggest td producers.
i agree. taylor has been healthy for the past two seasons and when he's healthy he's clearly the best of the group you mentioned. hell, he's even top5 among all backs if you ask me.

dillon, i would only take as a backup, not as a starter, cause the pats won't run the ball more just because he's in the backfield now. i'd much rather pick rudi than him: it involves a bit of gambling, yes, but i don't think he was a one-year wonder.

what about travis henry? i don't think willis mcgee will take away many carries from him, coming from a bad injury. i sort of see it as a situation similar to the one the panthers had last year. davis started as the undisputed starter and then foster got to slowly make his way into the lineup, but davis still managed to put up some nice fantasy points.

Re: CHUD Fantasy Football circa 2004

I think Davis, and the Panthers in general caught a few teams by surprise last year and won't be able to repeat quite the success that they had.

Dillon makes the Pats running game more of a concern for defenses, but they I doubt he'll get big numbers this year.

The Palmer experience will limit Rudi a bit in the early goings I would think, but if Palmer succeeds, you'll see Rudi do the same, and if Palmer struggles I think Kitna will be back in fairly quickly, which'll help Rudi get the numbers back up again.

Fred Taylor is always a crap-shoot. He stays healthy, he's a great pick, but what are the chances that he's gonna stay 100% all season?
well he's only stayed healthy for 2 complete season's in a row. i can't see why he couldn't do it again. it's like still doubting if brad johnson can make it through a season without missing a lot of time. for all we know rudi or dillon could blow their knee out in week 1.

Ninth place is mine, CC.
I request that when it comes time to name your teams, they match your name here as closely as possible. It just makes everything easier.
Sweet! Thanks.

Is that the draft order, or will it be automatically "shuffled" when draft day nears?

BTW, I was in the Chewers league in 2002. So I'm not necessarily a newbie. Just took a year off from ALL football related fantasy stuff.
Not the draft order.

If you can throw me in the waiting list, i'd love to slide in on a team if the opportunity arises .. been playing for a long time and would love the challenge.
Haha, well I have been working on my draft order the past weekend as well. I picked up Sporting News' FF draft special issue with tables for each position already nicely made for me.

So I am ready.

I also agree with the team names being similar to usernames. I have been in leagues before where we went 7 weeks without truly knowing who was who.
when do you guy's usually have the draft? i like it as close to the season as possible. nothing worse then a player you draft getting injured in pre-season.

I have settled on my team name for 2004:

In honor of my new house located in Canton, GA and my love for females I will be the Canton Cunninglingus Captains

And look, it even references my name!
