A couple things -

Are we going to have a thread for each draft round?

I hope being drafted doesn't stop Lambert from kicking ass in straight to video action fare. Who knew he could pitch?
Humber was the safest pick at 3, so for once I can give the Mets a pass on their first round selection.

And damn, that'd be quite a few threads, perhaps he'll just post each round in this thread?

What are the Padres doing drafting a SS at #1? Unless they convert him to 2nd I see this as a wasted pick. They have a future All Star at SS now.

Pitching, Pitching, Pitching.

I really liked Neimann, but there are questions about his injury history. He is a 6' 9" stud from Rice. He went 17-0, but has had arm surgury in his past.

The Padres have been stocking up on pitching for the past 2 or 3 years and fans should be seeing it come up out of their system in the next year or two. The high school SS will probably be moved to center field, which was to be what they were going to do for Stephen Drew, but Drew wanted more then 3.3 million a year (fucking Boras, these guys are not sure things and the next collective bargaining agreement will probably see a change in ameteur pay scale).

The draft is supposed to be weak, but there is plenty of good college pitching this year.

QUESTION: What are the Padres going to do with Xavier Nady? He is probably good trade bait. They are stacked in the outfield at the pro level.

Seems like a solid pick. I hear he is also the most far along in terms of development and maturity of the Rice pitchers. I'd rather go with "safe" than " might improve/has high ceiling/has the tools". It's feast or famine with those types.

Time to hand him over to Rick Peterson!

In the 69th overall pick, the White Sox picked Ray Liotta.... I shit you not.

If we can't win fair, we'll just bust your head with the butt of our gun.

Weaver to 12 and Drew to 15, gotta love the baseball draft. Both of those guys were talked about as potential #1's, and both dropped in large part because they picked dickhead as their agent. Now we get to look forward to waiting years to see if anybody pans out, except possibly Weaver but I personally don't buy that he'll pitch in the bigs this year. It might be the best possible thing for his career that he went to a franchise that doesn't need him this year.

Seriously, I don't blame the agents, I blame MLB. Someones got to explain to me why teams aren't allowed to trade their picks.

Well, some teams do essentially trade their picks when they sign free agents better then 30% of MLB players.

But I agree. A draft pick should be tradeable. It makes sense especailly with the high contracts these guys are asking for.

But I do blame the agents and the owners. The owners never had to pay J.D. Drew what he wanted. The Phillies didnt want to sign him for 8 mil, then signed Burrell for 8 mil the year afterward. It all started with J.D. Drew.

People who say the NFL draft is a crapshoot should take a gander at the MLB draft...

...but it's tough not to love the upside on this kid. And while the competition he faced was pretty low level, his stats were just obnoxious. Plans on signing ASAP as well.

I heard Peter Gammons talking about that kid, Chavez, and he said Rogers is a total stud.
Hey man, if were going deep, Scott Hyde was a stud in D3... The consensus is that he was a steal in the 7th round, putting up a ridiculous 161K's in 102 innings--14.2 per nine innings--and he also went an impressive 11-1, with a 1.76ERA.

But hey, I'm a Mets fan, I'd be a Yankee fan by now if I had any sense.

Correction, the Padres have a future All Star at 2B. Greene had actually been projected at 2B before and doesn't have the makeup that Bush has for SS. The question that raises is what that means for Josh Barfield, who is the Padres top current prospect who plays 2B. But he'll probably move to the outfield or get trade, so it's not a very interesting question.

Nady's a weird situation. He's been mentioned in trades to KC for Beltran, but I doubt that trade ever happens. Kevin Towers seems to have a soft spot in his heart for Nady, he was supposed to go to Pitt last year instead of the supposedly better Jason Bay, so he'll probably find his way into the lineup eventually.

Good to hear. I think Gammons is getting to like the direction the Brewers are heading in - pre-season, he rated the Brewers' end of the Sexson deal as "best trade of the offseason."
I'd have to agree with Gammons. I think the Brewers are going to surprise people throughout this year and the future.

If their hitting doesn't come around SOON, you can write off this year;

But they've got a nice foundation started, that's for sure.

Padres Suspend #1 Pick Bush

It seems they will not say what the guy was arrested for, but it seems Mr. Bush could lack CHARACTER. I bet the Padres front office is pissed.
I'd guess DUI or weed. Cubs need a SS, we'll take him.
according to espn he was arrested for trespass, disorderly conduct and assault. it occured because bush and his brother were denied entrance into a bar so he jumped over the railing and got into a scuffle with a bouncer who worked there.

They do know he only played Shoeless Joe Jackson in "Field of Dreams", don't they?

Truth is coming out now. He was already in the bar (supposedly snuck in with his older brother through a back door) and was recognized so they had no choice but to boot him. He and his brother got angry and fought back against the bouncer, he bit the bouncer on the hand like a bitch.

I love that it comes as a shocking surprise whenever an 18 year old is given millions of dollars and turns around and does stupid shit. I can only imagine the raging asshole I would have been at 18 with coin.

I would have slapped the bouncer, maybe twice.
