Bad Avp

ok...i dont know why this just dawned to me..but over at the offical site..i noticed the aliens have yellow eyes placed, randomly it seems on thiere head.....i have never see they before in the frachise, i was wondering why it looked so fucking wierd.
WHY DO THEY HAVE EYES???
Yeah, I haven't seen what pic you refer.

They did fuck up the design, though. The mouths on the Aliens look all gummy, like they don't have any teeth, and the jaws open way wider than they did on any of the other films.

I also dread the giant, goofy blades the Predators seem to be equipped with, as seen on the McFarlane Toys action figures.

God, this movie seems so easy to NOT screw up. Just talk with some fans about what makes each monster great and run with it from there. No six foot long wrist blades and no new Alien designs! They were good already!
People, could you please stop being complete geeks just for once (ok, look who's talking..) and just wait and see? The release date is still months away and everyone is already complaining about every little image we get to see. Please wait until it gets released and then destroy it all you want if it's bad.
I find it terrible to have people complaining about the fact that maybe there seem to be slight changes or innovations in the creatures' look or whatever. Open your minds a little, wait, and hope.

Just so long as the Aliens don't have shoes that are out of style. I won't stand for that.

/me imagines Aliens in a Run-DMC 'My Adidas' video ;D
post #7 of 41
The Aliens in this movie are the closest to the original Giger design since the first movie. Lest we forget, even James Cameron removed their shiny transparent penile head-domes to make them easier to film.
I defense of the long wrist blades, maybe the predators know about the acid in the Alien's blood and decided to make the blade longer, thus less chance of acid spraying on them when they gut the alien?
Maybe they just look cooler? Of all the things that could go wrong with this movie, complaining about the Predator having an expanded arsenal of killing methods seems a bit daft.

I agree and concur with alice's girl.

This trailer brought a smile to my face this morning.
It's everything we could wish for at this stage.

I have faith.
I have to say, I was looking forward to this -- and I gues I still am -- but I now officially hate electric guitars.
The music was definitely one of the main problems in Resident Evil - along with the editing, it stressed the action movie approach to what should have been a horror flick.

But come on, this is only a trailer and I think it works well here...
Okay lady, I'll admit, I've no real issue with the trailer itself -- it looks action packed and is quite well edited and there don't seem to be any wacky-super-fly-"oh heeeell no" red shirt characters. But since Resident Evil's biggest sin was forgoing tension and horror with a cacophonous metal soundtrack in an effort to do...well, I don't really know...

Using this same cool/hip tactic in promoting a bigger, more grown up double franchise that has never relied on rock n roll pizazz (indeed, the first three pictures in the Alien franchise have some of the best scores in the genre) smacks to me of either not having faith in the material so pandering to the kidz or simply pandering to the kidz. Both of which make me uneasy.

But so long as the picture isn't scored like that, it's all cool and I'm really looking forward to it.
Well we have to keep in mind that it's not exactly the same genre as the franchises. I mean, it's a fight between 2 alien species and humans just happen to be caught in between. Just like for Freddy vs Jason, I think what most of the fans want to see is the clash of the titans and they won't really care much about the human characters (I know I didn't care about them at all in FvsJ). It's very different from traditional horror movies, creatures vs humans... So I don't know, maybe a different approach could work...

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have the traditional horror movie score, but I'm not closing my mind to other possibilities (in other words, I try to be enthusiastic whatever happens... )
Marketing a brawl between two screen monsters as a wrestling smackdown makes a lot of sense and will attract more casual viewers.

Johnny Sixpack and people who don't particularly care for either aliens or predators will watch this and go "hell, yeah! Monsters kicking each other's ass! I wanna see that".

It's a much easier sell than using symphonic music and horror/suspense imagery and after the underperformance of Predator 2 and Aliens 3 & Resurrection, the franchises need as much help as possible to get bums on seats.

Besides, we already know that the guy who did the score for Day After Tommorow will deliver a nice, spooky traditional score for the actual pic.
Never seen that trailer before. Cool.
As long as his score is Kloser (heh, I kill me...) to The Thirteenth Floor than The Day After Tomorrow, that'll lift it.

No there's nothing wrong with marketing it like a smackdown. There's also nothing wrong with marketing Donnie Darko as a cool, creepy psycho picture either, demographically speaking (as was done, and look how that panned out for Pandora an Newmarket). It's still spectacularly unfair to the picture if it turns out to be any good that it creates the perception of it being a dumb show.

Not that I really want to get into a "polemics of marketing schtick" discussion, but since when was marketing an alien and predator picture to people that don't care about aliens and predators a sound marketing decision ?

*Edited to say: I do actually think Anderson's got his head on for this...Kloser as scorer being a good indication he's playing it straight. I doubt, with his track racord and the power of Fox he's that involved in the marketing. Maybe he is...I dunno. I'm looking forward, but don't like this campaign, I much prefered the more insidious teasers*

I liked the closing shot.

And Alice, I cared deeply about Katherine Isabelle in FvsJ but she was rudely killed!

When it became clear that those who care beofrehand will only lead the film to a $50 million gross. And would watch the film anyway.

The franchises need to expand their fanbase or face death. Meaning either the shelving of further sequels or the slow agonising death of incoherent, cheap DTV sequels shot in Romania.

That was the first GOOD trailer...The opening sound of the predator gave me goosebumps...

I can live with that Guitar thing it could have been "Let the bodies hit the floor"..

The shot of the temple looks right out of the concept art, and when the one predator captures the face hugger was great.
Caught the trailer for it last night before the showing of "Sweaty, Hairy Ball Sack"...Ooops..I mean "The Chronicles of Riddick"...I get those two easilly confised as they are very similar...

But the trailer for AvP looked awesome and def got me jacked for the movie...

The audience ate it up...

I have renewed hope...

Yet you then run the risk of alienating (no pun intended) the core audience, reinforcing their belief that it could just be a dumb cash in, rather than the hopefully imaginative, exhilarating extension of a double franchise. And so you can lose out at that end of the market as well.

My point is, why risk a core audience, for the sake of only potentially gaining another demographic sneakily. Its something I come up against pretty much everyday at my job-job-type-job, so it's a rhetorical question that only has a "cash" answer, of course.

But for something that can so easily gain it's costs back on ancilliary markets alone, you'd have thought they might be willing to play it straight for the fans. Just my thoughts.

Sorry guys and gals, but I have to play the negative nanvy again ... The new trailer with the head-bangin' Aliens and Predators has to be the absolute stupidest piece of shit trailer I have seen in a long time. About the only good thing I can say about the music is that thankfully it is not "Bodies" again, which has already raped my ears during the PUNISHER trailer and ever other action flick teaser/trailerin the last 5 years or so.

So far AvsP has looked like a fun, brainless summer cheesefest but after this abomination I suddenly fear the worst ... I have to say the footage shown was OK and I didn't even mind the MTV-editing. But I swear to god when the Predator runs around head-bangin' to Rammstein or Marilyn Manson I will set the theater on fire. If it's only in the trailer, OK, I can live with that. But we had Rammstein in RESIDENT EVIL as well so I'm pretty sure PWSA will put that shit in the movie as well. And it's not that I have anything against metal or Rammstein or Manson (I have CDs of the latter two) but come on in an Aliens/Predator film? I can't remember Ripley ever crash dancing through outer space. It's just inappropriate as all hell.

Fuck this film and fuck PWSA and fuck me for ever giving this turd a chance!

I'll go and pre-order the Criterion VIDEODROME disc now to cleanse my soul.

What's a 'negative nanvy'?

...or should it be 'Negative Nan : V'; the fifth installment of the cult classic, starring Bea Arthur as Adam Sandler's aging Grandmother, who, yet again, disapproves of any 'woman' he tries to date...In this fifth and final film (yeah, right), he resorts to farmyard animals, in a desperate attempt to...

I just saw the new trailer out now and I say that I think it's better than I could hope for...Lookinig forward to seeing it now !!
well if this internet trailor is like the one in the theaters I have no problem. The thing is if this really is an exculsive internet trailor its a sign of very bad things. This trailor was aimed at a main stream crowd where a internet trailor should probably be aim at the core audience. Just seems wierd.
It isn't like the one in the theaters, so people can officially stop bitching about the "music" now. The theater version, from what's been said, is longer and much better.

Also, there was an alternate preview shown on Access Hollywood, with different music and a few different scenes. Until the theatrical version is released, you can see the Access Hollywood version here:

Okay, now this is a strong trailer

Enthusiasm, fully restored.

It pays to bitch about the music if that's the thing that makes it look awful. This looks far from awful. In fact it looks really, really promising.
That was a great trailer, but damn if will be the first to say "this might be good, even for a P.A. movie" but I wont!!!

Or did I?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

The shot of the predator shooting down slope and the queen chained up were sweet. As was the predator throwing the alien across hall.
nice, that is what i was waiting for. The more that comes out the more geeked i get for this movie. I've been waiting years for this movie to be picked up and i hope it lives up to my expectations.

My enthusiasm increases every day.

AVP - Won't be great, but won't be bad...

I know I've only been here a few times and it's always been to rush to the defense of Paul W.S. Anderson, but having read the novelization, I don't think AVP will be a great film and that's what you're going in to see. However, if you're going in to see the aliens and predators kicking the shit out of each other you won't be disappointed.
They just had a screening in L.A and apparently the audience really loved it. Which may or may not be a good sign.
