Look, it's just a neverending cycle when it comes to the boards. When Nick first proposed Star Chamber, everyone was eager to join the group. In a sense, it would seem to legitimize your contribution to the boards, and set you apart, in a very concrete manner, from the rest of the pack. When Star Chamber began to do their whole song and dance routine, everyone who felt "abused" began to bitch and complain (and in some cases justifiably so). The key thing to remember is this, most of those people also wanted to be on Star Chamber. The same thing is going on here. I'm sure the majority of the board tried to get into the new Elite Republican Sewer (Bill Hicks joke -- no political subtext intended), and now that they haven't been accepted the same thing is going to happen all over again -- for the exact same reasons. Sure, it's a great idea to have a board that filters out all the newbie bullshit, bad humor, and "Mission Impossible 2 is fukin gay, dawg" smart film discussions --

-- but that's only if you're given an invitation. Otherwise, Taps begins to play softly in the distance, and a lot of people awkwardly try to recreate major set pieces from Gangs of New York on an AICN talkback level. Just my prediction.

I don't care enough to search for the Star Chamber recruitment threads to check, but I doubt that's really true. I know I sure didn't ask to be in it, and there were certainly members of Star Chamber who realized once they were in it that it wasn't the best idea. Best laid plans and all that.

It's still an appropriate analogy.

This is an awful lot of discussion over something so trivial.

Frankly, Im still shocked we havent seen a flat out show of dimwitted dismay on the lines of:

"fuk you faggitz and yer fukin new bored. its jus fer gay biatches anyway, i wouldnt poste thurr if u begged me"

oh, and I completely disagree with the claims that everyone who is bitching about the idea of a new board is just pissed because they arent getting in, to me that just sounds like the smug reasoning of people who are already assured of their position.. a position that is already clouding their brain and giving them the assumption they are now "superior" to the rest of us peons.. yea.. some people are just bitter because they want in, but alot of us just think it was either a really poor idea to annouce this plan in plain sight of the... oh... 3,000 or more who wont get in.. and also that its kind of a harsh 'fuck you, you arent smart enough or cant contribute anything to our discussions'..

i mean, i understand that in some cases posts counts actually MATTER.. as the odd individual might choose to make the majority of those posts engaging in serious, meaningful discussion in whatever topic.. and therefore have proven themselves as valuable members of the Boards, but guys, just because someone hasnt been here for 4 years, doesnt mean they arent smart or cant contribute.. cant bring anything new to the table.. the disregard for "noobs" around here is astonishing, and now it seems like we wont be given any kind of a chance now that the Old Guard is getting a private place to blow off all their intelligent conversation before coming back here to put down more fresh meat..

just my thoughts, im not putting down anyone whos getting in or assuming they are all arrogant snobs who will now throw off the standard boards.. but i also dont see how a new board will help the problems everyone is having with the current system.. yes, its a great area where you guys can recollect the good ol days and not be pestered by 'l337s', and might bring back some oldies who stopped hanging out around here (hell.. i used to post here way back before the first Spiderman under FallenAngel.. but you dont see me begging and pleading for acceptance because i have a new handle.. im not worried about it, ill prove myself again)... but what it wont do is get rid of the morons in the other boards, or suddenly make everyone else start having these massive intelligent deeply woven and meangingful discussions everywhere else, which is the big problem anyway right?

whew.. okay, im done ranting.. its not that i have a problem with a new board for bringing back some missed faces and having freedom, i just think people are really taking their acceptance (and denial) too far and becoming exactly what everyone is working against... arrogant bastards and bitter complainers (and no, devin.. i dont hold a secret grudge for not getting in.. i never mailed Nick pleading to be good enough, and besides.. i doubt i would have any place in there if i was accepted.. im a canuck whos never met anyone on here, and half the time i have no clue what you fools are talking about, id be much more at home staying in the Creature Corner and Video game boards )

Why don't I remember you making this same learned observation in the thread asking people to vote to ban Devin? Oh, wait I know. It's because it's way easier to be reactionary about somebody that you don't care for. Gotcha.

The main problem with the board in my opinion is the ignore function. I personally don't really care to put people on ignore, there are more than a few posters that I really didn't like for a while and now enjoy reading. At the same time, I'm tired of wading through endless piles of drivel hoping to read something that is actually fairly interesting. Even when those threads do pop up, it takes precious little time for morons to muddy the whole thing up beyond repair anyhow. Star Chamber neutered this place, that and the attitude that came with it. CHUD used to police itself, but SC showed up and we were all made to know that there was no longer any place for it. After the inevitable SC implosion there was still the overwhelming plea to just be nice to each other. Unfortunately, some people need a bite in the ass and those bites just kind of stopped. Now the crap turns into the status quo too often, and people are either too tired or too apathetic to bother fighting it any more.

I'd name names to appease Micah, but I've already done as much in other threads. Not to each annoying twat, but then again I fall into the apathetic category (oddly enough).

Because you only look for the negative? I don't even remember seeing you before today, but I'm glad to see I've made some sort of impression on you. How about I worry about validating my postings to you another time? Is that good for you?

So, the cool 5th graders on the playground are upset that the other 5th graders are having AS MUCH fun on the swings as they are,
so they are leaving the swings for the uncool kids and are going to sit in the sandbox, pretending that it doesn't bother them?


Who the fuck cares if there is a separate board for "The Elite?"

If you can't play nice with the rest of the kids, then remove yourself...after all, it's the grown up thing to do.

I don't think people want to be in this elite board so much and not want to have their faces rubbed in the fact there is one - just a thought.

Try to follow me here, Bunny. The theard topic you linked is funny. You know what would make that thread unfunny? If someone repeatedly posted a picture in the middle of an unrelated thread and made up some bullshit captions to go with it. But you knew that, right?

How about we all stop whining and earn our places. Contribute, and you will get tapped for the private forum.

You know what's too bad? When Milton got banned his "These boards will be better when you're gone" post went with him.

Honestly, with all wise assed remarks aside, it's not that a lot of people here are saying "I hate the new club because I'm not in it"...

It's mostly people saying things along the likes of "if it's private and no nonsense, why lord it over people."


Because honestly, no matter how exclusive you (and I mean that in the "royal" you) make any organization, once established members get to bickering you'll still be in the same predicament you feel you are in here.


To have it announced that this private forum is coming and "some of you won't be allowed in" is screwey, NOT because of who it will or will not include - but because it came across with such smugness and venom.

And it doesn't help the majority of people here accept it and move on when other people (and that includes many people, not someone like devin or Nick - they're NOT targets of this post) cop an attitude and talk down to other people they feel are beneath them.

If everyone just stopped showing whose ice cream cone is bigger and laughing about it, maybe this issue wouldn't have been as out of control as it is.

The best solution is to form this new Lodge, do your thing in it, and let people do their own thing here.

For all these threads to be here, and for everyone to say:

One of the other boards I semi-regularly (its down now that Buffy is off the air) post to, Television Without Pity, has a really singular rule that I never appreciated before recently here:

Do not talk about the boards on the boards.

Now I realize why - there's a ton of navel gazing going on, and no one seems to be finding anything but old bellybutton lint.

My two cents are said, and I will return to my regularly scheduled video game/chewer/book/and other random crap posting.
