I don't know 'bout that...
Fred Gwynne vs. John Astin - pretty damn close. Both were wonderful. I have a bias toward Gomez, but I'll concede a tie.
Jackie Coogan vs. Al Lewis - again, I think it's pretty close. I actually have a slight favor towards Grandpa (though the Uncle Fester in the films is too fucking cool; I *love* Christopher Lloyd), but the difference is so slight I again have to call it a tie.
Or, shall we say my bias toward Gomez is negated by my bias toward Grandpa, so we're even-steven so far.
Lisa Loring & Ken Weatherwax (Wednesday & Pugsley) vs. Butch Patrick & Pat Priest (Eddie & Marilyn) - Munsters have a clear advantage here. The kids were a bit dull in the Addam's Family TV show (though my wife thought Wednesday was so fucking cute, which she was), really coming into their own in the film (well, Ricci did in spades, though the Pugsley actor never really came alive for me). The Munsters kids were better realized, especially Marilyn, who not only was a babe, but it was so funny that this family of monsters and freaks had this normal, beautiful daughter. Advantage, Munsters.
Ted Cassidy & Felix Adams vs. ...? - Addam's Family had Lurch, Thing, and Cousin It. Munsters had nothing (I think they had a raven or something, but nothing special). Addam's Family also had Grandma, but she's was usually outshined by Lurch & Thing. Strong advantage, Addam's Family.
At this point I'd say Addam's Family nudges past the Munsters by the strength of the minor characters. Add the better Morticia character, and I'd say that Addam's Family wins.
Munsters Got Served!
For what it's worth, I watched and enjoyed the Munsters, too.
Addam's Family is still better, though.
