Special Edition column - Page 2

Dude, seriously, I really enjoyed that review. That 'stream of consciousness' stuff was high comedy in my book. I found myself reading your reviews on DVD's I don't really care about it, that is, until I read your review and then I found myself mildly caring about them. Who said you can't change the world?

I think I, too, will be picking up KB I and II at CC (why don't we all just start typing in acronyms, only) this week even though I just know I'll be chumped sometime down the line with the double dip. Thanks for the column.

Another great column, though I wish you would have let yourself jump into a diatribe about the lockout.

I saw this out early at an FYE yesterday and realized my mistake. Sorry about that.

Another great column. I find myself reading about DVDs I have no interest in seeing, let alone buying, just to laugh at your take.

Despite the potential for quadruple dipping, I'll be buying Kill Bill vol 2 today.

A lockout would ensure that my Blackhawks won't play any worse this year.

I wasn't criticizing. Just lamenting that I was the only one who appeared excited about it. I've read a few reviews that say the transfer isn't as pretty as it should be. Anyone have it and care to offer their thoughts?

Oh, I know, still a mistake on my part. FYE has it for $14.99, if anyone cares.

Funny column. I like reading it.
flyarz, man, do you happen to know when the "heat SE" is supposed to come out?

just kidding. good column, as usual. keep up.

Good stuff, as always.

Being a sports nut, I absolutely would buy certain games on DVD (say, all seven 1980 Olympic hockey games in a 3-disc set). And I believe the NBA and NCAA have already started doing this. That Bulls box set reviewed on CHUD had all six championship clinchers, and the Syracuse national championship DVD had the whole final telecast. And as a Bills fan, I'd love for that 32-point comeback to be immortalized on DVD...

The Olympic hockey thing was when I first started thinking about this. I remember wanting to track down a copy of that USSR game after seeing Miracle. Still would want that, in fact.

The Special Edition deserves more love. It's really great stuff, man.
I'm jealous of this column. If this column were personified, it would have its toady kick sand in my face while it spurned my woman's advances.

I couldn't agree more.

Keep up the great work, John.

Thanks, Whitey, glad you enjoy it.
Whitey is an idiot. This column is consistently the funniest thing on CHUD, and today's was probably the best one yet.

"They’ll end their day by discussing the merits of running zombies before sitting on their arm, letting it fall asleep, and then jerking off one more time, because that way it feels like a zombie is doing it."

That's so fucking great. Nice job.
I don't find it hugely funny either. But as said before, it gives the goods on the information side, which is what I really care about. On that level, it works great.
I laughed hard at this one, man. Nice job! For whatever reason, I especially enjoyed the Berlin/VH1 tangent.

Whitey Powers was quite a bit funnier when he was Bizarro Zod. Remember that? He used to be an annoying asshole non-stop. These days he only lets his true colors show occasionally...though more frequently of late.

Whitey = Bizarro? Wow, that makes me even happier that he's a reader.

Great work, Flyarz. Your column must be good enough to make me crawl out of obscurity. Keep it up. Whitey, you unfunny fuck, please sit on a dick. Thanks!
I read the whole thing.

Loved it.

Bravo, yet again.
I love this column. Well, I mean I don't love it, but I like it as more than just a friend.

I'm not gay.
Another fantastic read. You don't suck, flyarz.
Reading your Bambi blurb brought tears of joy to my eyes. So fucking funny. If I could, I would put the whole damn thing as my sig, but unfortunately its too long. And a single sentence just doesn't do it justice. High-larious!

I think you should put it in your sig. I always recommend that if someone is going to post a long, space-hogging sig, it should be a long, space-hogging sig featuring me.

great work

This is all the boards would allow me to put in my sig. Still high-larious.

Another solid Special Ed. column. I've become quite the loyal reader.

That Miramax/Buena Vista release of Zatoichi with the bonus DVD of Sonatine makes me so fucking giddy. Great price, too.

Also, The Punisher is seemingly selling for $15.99 at various store chains, with addt'l extra bonus incentives particular to each retailer (at BB it comes with a preview disc for Saw, CC has a 3 song CD, free 4 pack of microwaveable popcorn at Target, etc.). Too bad the movie was so underwhelming.

It could just be the absinthe talking, but it seems to me that there are quite a few thinly-veiled insults in that column of yours, Johnny.
Yeah, like really-thin-paper-they-make-bibles-out-of thin. I love it.

What's the big secret about Anchorman? Tell me now, or I'll get George Lucas to edit you out of existence. He can do that, you know.

You're obviously just reading too far into it. Who told you to think while you read?

I love this column like I'd love a little bear cub that turned up on my doorstep with a thorn in its paw. Deeply, passionately, but very very conscious of the fact that it could rip my face off and defecate in my lounge.

MGM got crazy dissed, yo.

Another reason to love Tuesdays. Or maybe the only one.

You tickle me in just the right way, John. Funny shit. Glad to see the column back.

Trying a little too hard now, IMO. I liked the column close to its original incarnation.

But I have to disagree on the SW DVD art. I don't think it's that bad. I haven't thought that the first two DVD's in the PT were that bad either. Sure, the original artwork on the OT set and some similarly great artwork for the PT DVDs would be nice, but I don't think that they suck. Personally, I've never been that affected by DVD artwork. Sure, I'll pick up an occasional movie just because the packaging has caught my eye and I've said "hey, I've been meaning to get that". But I don't think I've ever turned my nose up at a movie I knew I wanted and not bought it just because the packaging wasn't a stunning work of art. But, meh, who cares, right? To each his own, I suppose.
I agree with you there, i don't think the artwork 'sucks' its no where as bad as some people are making them out to be. The THX artwork does rule though....art, baby!
