SW:KOTOR Playin' Update

Got to at least one of the twists, I'm LOVING this game - not so hard that repeated trys with big bosses doesn't get me killed, love the interaction, the only thing I don't like is when my NPCs won't let move when I want to get around them.

I wanted to play dark side, but am finding it hard to be mean. I love the story. Why aren't more games made like this?

Simply an amazing game. I played a cold hearted bastard all the way through, which is something I tend to have a tough time with. If you want to be dark just let go, think about yourself and ultimate power, you know bullshit like that, it helps. Later on when you're spewing lightning bolts and draining the life force out of your enemies it all becomes worth it.

The only fairly recent games that are "like it" (as far as decision making and customization) are the Baldur's Gate series and the original Deus Ex. However PC games have a long history of being fairly interactive like that, dating back to the Gold Box RPGs and System shock, but still there hasn't been enough games like it.

I'm really tempted to play through this game again, though it'll be tough to be a goody two shoes Jedi.

I vacilate back and forth. I just can't be mean to Misson or Big Z....

I'm SUCH a dork.

Don't do it Prala. Don't be seduced by the dark side!

Heheheheh. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Sorry, just thinking about something unspeakable I did to those two late in my Darkside run.

Can't wait for KOTOR 2.

I couldn't help but be mean to those two. Even in my light side game I had to throw in a shitty comment every now and then.

juhani is the biggest waste of space evar. you'll know what to do when you see her.
You didn't feel sorry for Mission at all? Didn't feel the slightest urge to reunite her with her family?

I am surrounded by evil people.

Ha! I went through the later half of the game wondering what character I was missing, so I went and checked a walkthrough after beating it and didn't shed a tear.

I firmly believe I made the right choice on Dantooine...

Nah, I wanted to force choke the blue bitch the whole time. Jolee was pretty cool though.

I love Mission, but I accidently killed her brother. Oops.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I haven't had the evil pleasure of doing it myself yet, but I know what it is. I accidently read it in a walkthrough one time before I started my dark side campaign. I can't f'in wait. I won't spoil the surprise for everyone else; just know that it is THE most diabolically evil and sadistic thing I've ever heard of doing in a video game. Simply great.

So, so sweet. The only thing is that during that excounter Carth ran off like a pussy.

I loved toying with Big Z's mind

I recently re-played this on dark-side, and it's between....

[ACHTUNG! SPOILER! ALAM! ALAM!]

making Zalabaar kill mission or having the two feuding families slaughter each other on Dantooine for the most deliciously fun evil thing I've ever done in a game.

[END SPOILER-]

edit- most humble apologies. At least I didn't spoil the bit when you kill that little yoda-like guy.

You might want to edit that SPOILER.

For which I have now been SPOILED.

Don't worry about that, it's not a big spoiler at all. Besides, you may not even have that opportunity down the road.

I think I want to restart this one.

Juhani is annoying, but it was really useful to hit the Star Forge with two Jedi backing you up.
When playing on the darkside, you can take the star forge single-handedly. In about ten minutes.
That Mission thing is so deliciously evil. But making those two families kill each other... I wanted a "Well done!" beer after that.
What planet did you go to after Dantooine, prala? I went to Tatooine and am still there, mostly because I cheated on KOTOR with Crimson Skies for a few weeks. I'm having a hard time wasting the Sand People Chieftain, though. This game is lots of fun. I like expensive ol' HK-47.
This is really making me miss last summer. I played this non-stop. My wife was pregnant and slept for huge chunks of the weekend and weeknight evenings. While she slept, I walked the fine line between lightside and darkside.

I don't have much time to play right now, but nothing interests me like KOTOR did. I would say that the two best video game experiences of my life have been KOTOR and the original Legend of Zelda.
Finally picked this up the other day. I'm already on Dantooine and about to embark on the mission into the ruins.
Heh I made the mistake of playing it threw full Light side. The last level was HELL. but worth it when i got to brag as all my friends went dark =) I really have to reinstall it again

Took me 70 minutes to kill the final boss. I was fully Light side, playing as a Sentinel, and I didn't have [MINOR GAMEPLAY SPOILERS] Destroy Droid to take care of the ... healing devices [/MINOR GAMEPLAY SPOILERS]. So I had to hit him a few times, use Force Speed and run like hell, Heal. Wash, rinse, repeat. About 250 times. Up to that point the game hadn't been a challenge, merely time consuming. Enjoyable, but not challenging.

Ok, UI'm on the unknown planet, but every time I move away from the Ebon Hawk my graphics go wonky.

Help?
My second time playing through the game, as a Light Jedi, I eventually said screw it on the Star Forge and went solo. The party members were always holding me back, and without their baggage, I was able to sprint away from the Dark Jedi and get where I needed to be.

That's what I had to do the first time I played all light. Couldn't stand it.

Neither one of you had Throw Lightsaber? You can target the healing devices and it would take care of them nicely.

Damn, never thought about that. I usually had Bastilla take care of that duty.

Will get on there tonight and try it out.
I'm (of course) doing darkside first time through and already can't wait to play through the game doing lightside. Finished Dantooine, started Korriban and left when I read that if I finish that now I won't get to do a side mission. Now I'm on Tatooine.
Nope. Didn't have Throw Lightsaber. I had buffs out the whazoo, Heal, Master Speed, Stasis Field, and Force Wave. Worked fine for everything except the last boss.
Ok, so I'm on Korriban now, and I found a quest that I didn't get to the first time I played through.

[POSSIBLE SPOILER]

It's the finding Dustill (Carth's son) quest, and I'm supposed to find some evidence to prove to Dustill that the Sith are evil and that he should leave te academy, etc, etc. What do I do? I don't necessarily want someone to tell me exactly what to do, but is it something that I'm going to really have to look for, or is it going to just kind of pop up in my explorations of the planet. If it's something really obscure, then I would love a hint, but if it's something that I'm going to find out just by playing through the other stuff on the planet, then I'll just figure it out on my own.

[END POSSIBLE SPOILERS]
Okay, there's the evil bald dude in the center of the academy who sits on the floor, correct? IIRC, if you go to his room, you'll find some object that proves the evil of the Sith to Carth's son.

Ok, cool. Thanks.

[***POSSIBLE SPOILER AGAIN***]

Ok, so for anyone who finds themselves in the spot I mentioned above, make sure you break into Uthar's room and steal the datapad needed to convince Dustil that the sith are evil (and give it to Dustil) before you kill Uthar and Yuthura. If you wait until after you have completed your test inside the tomb and killed the two academy leaders, Dustil will only attack you when you get close to him, just like all the rest of the Sith do. I made the mistake of doing it afterward and I just ended up killing Dustil. Although Carth doesn't seem to know. If you ask him, he'll just tell you that he wants to find some way to convince Dustil that the Sith are evil. The best part is, Carth was actually on my team when I killed Dustil. And he still doesn't know!

Is there anything else to do on that Yavin station that came with the XBL download other than talk to that little guy and buy his stuff?

EDIT: sorry about the three posts in a row...
Keep going back, and play some Pazaak each time. You'll eventually get a high-level side quest. Winning that quest gives you the opportunity to buy the best items in the game.

Well, crap. I haven't been playing Pazaak at all. I barely have any cards. I've never gotten into the whole card game mini-game thing. The only one I ever played was the one in FFVIII, but that was only because it was the only way to get some of the items I needed to get the "ultimate" weapons for some of my characters. Maybe next time I go through KOTOR, I'll learn Pazaak a little better and then I'll do all the Yavin stuff.

The thread should have ended right there. How can you top a post like that?

But since it didn't, I'll throw in my two cents. Love, love, love this game. I remember sometimes being so gleefully surprised at the options the writers came up with; saying to myself, "Jesus, that is so deliciously evil, I wouldn't even have thought to do it if they didn't present it to me." The stuff mentioned above were the best, unmotivated, evil-for-evil's sake moments, but I also like (spoiler) in the ocean-floor facility on Manaan, finding a couple of survivors who give you two options to defeat the shark: scare it off, or poison it and destroy all the resources of the planet. Of course, after you decide to go the poison route, you have to kill the survivors because, well, just because.
Thread Starter
Oh, man, I used the poison route but didn't kill the survivors!

I'm so quasi evil its not funny. Playing KOTOR has taught me that Catholic school, at least, left its own impressions on my little head. Stupid Light Side.

That said, I'm having problems with graphics & slowdown on the Unknown planet. Any tips?
Still (slowly) playing and loving this game, even though I fucked up and killed the Mandolorian with the weapons cache in the Sith Academy. I think I might go back a save or two and try that bit again. It's fun to see that actions I made far earlier (specifically, the Juhani thing) really do affect various NPC's. I thought that girl looked familiar...

My light-side Jedi would mop the floor with you weak, depraved, dark-siders.

I borrowed the PC version of this sucker from my roommate so I could play it during my long shifts here at work (I have the easiest job in the world) and since we have Deep Freeze, after the comp resets all saved data, unless it is in a certain drive, is lost. So i get about 3 hours into Taris, the comp freezes up on me, and I lose all my data and have to reinstall the game. I haven't gotten back into it, but it is calling to me.

Hmm...that douchebag who waited for me to do the heavy lifting in Urethra Paul's tomb... he better get called on the fake sword I gave him. I'll be pissed if I gave up a cool weapon for him to get more prestige.

I'm done. Finished. Now I want to start my EEEEVIL dark side campaign, but also, feel the need to play Hordes of the Underdark. Oh Bioware, how you keep me occupied and not doing anything I should be!
