Artistically Inclined Chewers

For those of you who may not venture into the humor forum on a regular basis, I'm afraid you may be missing some great art by your fellow chewers.

Though the MS Paint Famous Movie Scenes thread started out as another Werbal/Gruber excercise in stupidity, other chewers quickly picked up the tab and actually put some genuine artistic effort into their works.

Population Rob

Muncie Girl

The Farce

Capitan America

These are fantastic, I need to get involved.

Otik, I'll give you 10k dollars for your masterpiece drawing of the chest burster.

Hey thanks for posting these up Werbal.

I'd say some of those guys should take their stuff to the art forum but that forum doesn't get enough attention and some of that stuff is just fantastic, there needs to be a website made for em'.

I absolutely love that Bishop one. It captures the moment so perfectly.

Apologies to Richard Dix for forgetting about his work! I was trying to make sure that I got everyone who contributed.

Here's another of his I liked...

Here's another great one by Population Rob.

Thanks for the love, guys. I'm especially proud of my Seven one. I still can't believe how well the gun and the shading came out.

That Brazil one by PopRob makes for an excellent Desktop, by the way.

Hey, I just saw this thread! Look at all the goddamn love! Great idea, Werbs.

It would be really cool for everyone to take a few minutes (or an hour if you have frickin' dial-up like me) and wander through that thread. Muncie Girl, Detective Dix, Gruber, Capitan America, The Farce, Otik, The_Gistmeister, FarinaMystica and Werbal all have some great stuff in there.

I freakin' love CHUD!

A lot of these look like stills from the films that have been traced over. I don't think they were all done from scratch by memory.

Hell, I can't tell. I just like 'em.

Oh, BTW I didn't do the Kill Bill 2 one.

They're not traced, but they're not technically from memory either.

I can't speak for everybody but what I'm doing is pausing my DVD at the frame I want and then drawing it in Paint via mouse from looking off the television.

My contribution to that thread:

Why is Donald Pleasence from THX-1138 telling us to SHHHH?

That's a pretty harsh accusation. You should come out and say who you think is a tracer instead of libelling the whole thread.
Saying someone on the internet might have traced some of these is "harsh"?

Whatever.

If you feel you need to "prove" something, you could always post some of your non-computer hand-drawn artwork as well...

And apparantly this is "Sensitive Chewer Weekend".

No, Jacob, I don't suppose it is "harsh" to you. To you it's just words on the screen. It's easy for you to make a blanket statement and post it without calling out any one individual.

But to me it is a slap in the face. That picture from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly took me four hours including false starts and being frustrated enough to have to step away from it every 15 minutes. Calling me a tracer is saying that all that work I put into that picture was for nothing. I might as well have traced.

Here is that Clint picture before I drew in the background. Note the boxes with the letter "a" inside. These are for generating colors that MS Paint doesn't provide.

But that isn't what you asked for, is it? You wanted something hand drawn to prove I have talent away from the mouse. Well, here's something I drew while I was at work today...I doubt my boss would like the idea of paying me to prove a point on the internet.

There you go, Jacob. I fully admit that I'm taking this much too seriously. But you know what's sadder than that? What's sadder is that I really do hope for an apology or a retraction or something. Even though it's just the internet.
This is kinda funny because it's a hell of a lot harder to draw something with a mouse than by hand. If you can draw with a mouse, you can draw with your hand. If you can dodge a wrench...

The only rules that were stated were that people are to use MS Paint. No one said that we can't use images for reference.
But there's a big difference between working with a visual reference--which even the Old Masters did and everyone is required to do that takes a basic art class--and tracing. Accusing an artist of tracing is like accusing a journalist of plagiarism.

When you accuse people of tracing, you're inferring that they lack the skill to accurately depict what they see. For those of us who have played by the rules and put a lot of work into our contributions, that is a harsh accusation.
And seeing as you're the accuser, the burden of proof is on you, not the contributors, until you at least say who it is that you think is a fake.
I think all of the members that have contributed to the MS Paint thread have shown that their imagination and willingness to participate in something fun is something that should be appreciated, not jabbed at and picked apart.

Good show on everyone's part!

Drawn from memory:

Drawn with reference of image (no tracing):

Drawn w/o reference with animation:

Jacob, don't hate the players, hate the game. Let me guess: You probably tried to draw some, and they ended up looking like shit, so you just blanketed everyone as cheaters. That's why some people here were offended.
Jesus fucking Christ, people, calm the fuck down. I'm sorry to accuse some of you of the dreaded TRACING, which is apparantly the worse possible thing any of you have ever heard of.

The drawing started out being funny and silly, and then everyone decided they had to "prove" something and started spending hours and hours to draw stills from movies, losing whatever humor the thread offered, and quickly devolving into a talent show. There's good stuff here, from talented people, but you're taking this shit WAYYY too seriously.

Grow some thicker skin already. I didn't "pick apart" anyone's efforts here. THAT'S WHY I DIDN'T MENTION ANY FUCKING NAMES.

Sorry, I've been drawing since I was able to hold a pencil. A silly recent example:

But you're right, I'm probably just a bitter failure.
Oh, and in case you're unfamiliar with art history, many of the great masters used tracing in their paintings. It's just another technique. There's a reason so many people are 'left-handed' in master's portraits. It doesn't detract from their obvious skill.

Ever heard of "camera obscura"? Look it up.

I remember that picture of the evil burrito! It's a great picture. Did you and your friend ever finish that graphic novel that picture was for?
We're still "working" on it, and by "working", I mean talking a lot about our plans for it over beers, but never getting much accomplished. I moved out to the sticks, so we don't get together as much as we did when I lived in town.
That's too bad. I was really interested in seeing how that came out. And what it was about.
We still have hopes for it. I think he's come up with a solid premise, that's funny and silly and bloody as hell.

Also, just want to add, I'm sorry if I antagonized anyone by my earlier remarks. They were not designed to offend anyone.
