Krispy Kreme has arrived

IN AUSTRALIA, the first in a chain of Krispy Kreme stores has opened in Sydney and I can never get a donut from because the queue's are a fucking mile long and I just can't be bothered to stand in line for a donut, although I've heard they're delicious. I expect Krispy Kreme to make a killing here.
Just enjoy it, man.

Let your ass grow wide, as you stuff your face with the finest greasy toxins that Uncle Sam is willing to share with you and your Koalas.

All we need now is for someone to start importing Twinkies.

Ahhh, Krispy Kreme, a southern tradition. There's a Krispy Kreme down in Tampa heights that's been open since about the 1950's and it's still frickin' busy every single morning. It was also the site of a serial killer abduction in the early 90's. Ahhh, memories.

The donuts kick-ass, though. Better than that waxy shit Dunkin' Donuts serves up.

Looks like cops have a new place to hang out at.

Mmmmm . . . .Krispy Kreme . . . .ahhhhh.

Those donuts are excellent. Please don't order a dozen. You will eat them all.
Here's something that I find pretty odd...Krispy Kreme is losing money. With this new low-carb dieting raging throughout the country less people are grabbing a couple dozen before they go to the office in the morning. There's lots of sugar and carbs in them donuts, so many people are avoiding them.

So, it wasn't until the low-carb craze that people started to realize these things weren't good for you? It's the high levels of carbs that make these tasty nuggets so bad to eat? It's fried dough covered in sugar and sometimes filled with more sugar and fat. They've always been loaded with saturated fats and calories.
The low-carb fad is making people do lots of stupid things. They are like sheep.
I've heard though that Tim Hortons Doughnuts OWN Krispy Kremes.

I'll call shenanagans for now since i've never been to Canada to try Tim Hortons...but it makes you wonder.
dude we in sydney have had it since last year. they are amazing, but i can feel myself getting heavier as i eat them
post #11 of 34
I consider Krispy Kreme a weapon of mass destruction. It's our attempt to make the rest of the world as fat and lazy as Americans.

Phase 1: McDonalds
Phase 2: Krispy Kreme
Phase 3: Rosco's Chicken and Waffles
I consider Krispy Kreme expansion to be a humanitarian excercise. These donuts are food of the gods, and it would be selfish to keep them to ourselves.

If they get fat from eating them that's their fault. Too much god-ness can overwhelm any mere mortal and make them fatties.
I love that they are proud of how these donuts are made and gleefully showoff the production process. I can watch batches of donuts go into the deep frying oil and then for hours.
They're delicious.

I just went to the one near downtown Atlanta the other night with a friend around midnight. Yummy!

Who or what is Carl (beside CHUD's own Mr. Cunningham, that is) and why is he/it selling $6 hamburgers?

Carl' Jr is Hardees, which I don't think you have either. The 6$ burger is a fast food attempt at a restaurant style burger. When I lived on the East Cost I think Roy Rogers was probably the closest thing to a Hardees or Carl's Jr.

Tim Hortons is the best donut chain ever. They have great coffee and their iced cappuccinos are the best in the world. Great donuts, great muffins and bagels, soups, sandwiches, and best of all it's open all night! It's perfect for a nocturnal creature with the munchies.

See, here's the thing: Krispy Kreme aren't "the best donuts." KK are their own thing. It might be best to think of them as donut-flavored candy. They're fucking great, but you can't really compare them to other donuts.

And for Dragon Ma and any others, since noone else is hipping you to it, here's the strategy: KK has a neon sign in the window that says "Hot Donuts Now." Go into KK ONLY WHEN THAT SIGN IS LIT. This means that the donuts have just come off the assembly line, and are hot, molten lumps of flour and sugar. Otherwise, don't bother.
The biggest news to me? I had no idea Dragon Ma was Australian. W00t!

And Diva, is Rosco's Chicken and Waffles an actual place? I heard Chris Rock talk about it once, but I thought he was just making it up. I mean really... chicken and waffles? That's just crazy talk, woman!

Actually I'm english I just moved out here with my family when I was 16.

There's already a donut franchise here called 'Donut King' but i don't see them lasting long now that KK has arrived. The queue's are ridiculous.

Krispy Kremes taste like glazed ass if you buy them anywhere but the actual Krispy Kreme Store. What exactly happens in the delivery trucks that causes the transformation from glazy goodness to dessicated holocaust once the poor little krispy kremes hit my local Harris Teeter?

In the Southeast, it's mostly Hardee's, as one of the first franchises was opened in Spartanburg, SC by Jerry Richardson, a former NFL player. Only reason I know this is because I went to Wofford College there and a he is the guy who ended up starting a company that owned El Pollo Loco, Denny's and more. After becoming a self-made multi-millionaire, he purchased the NFL's Carolina Panthers and now devotes his full-time to them. One of my mother's neighbors from childhood is married to him.

My dad's family is originally from Pennsylvania and I always saw Roy Rogers up that way. But, since the company that owns Hardee's changed their menu and logo a few years back and many of the restaurants were renovated, I think all the Roy Rogers changed over to Hardee's now, though I am not absolutely certain.

And, if I not mistaken, most of the Carl's Jr.'s are strictly out West.

I've never been to Roscoe's, but here's what one random website had to say:
Quote:
Regulars--and there are plenty--come to this country-style table-and-chair eatery and order the popular #13, a whole chicken breast sitting atop a maple syrup smothered waffle for just $5.90.
But, there is a similar restaurant near me called Gladys Knight & Ron Winan's Chicken and Waffles, which currently only has two locations in the Atlanta area. It was started by one of Knight's sons and the concept is based on that of a place called Wells Restaurant in Harlem in the 1930s. Supposedly, they served both chicken and waffles because many celebrities who hung out there in the late night/early morning hours couldn't decide whether they wanted breakfast or dinner, so they got both. I went to Gladys and Ron's several months ago and the food was delicious. The menu seemed to be geared more toward "Soul Food" than anything else.

As for Krispy Kreme, they are awesome, but like any donut, are only truly good when fresh.
I've never understood the love for Krispy Kreme. Their donuts are alright, but I think they're WAAAY too glazed. You take a bite and you still haven't reached the actual donut. I'll take Dunkin Donuts over Krispy Kreme any day.

Yeah, I'd only heard rumors about it. But when I went to LA a few years ago I made my friend take me there. It's a real place and its good. It seems like a bizarre combo, but so does steak and eggs and that tastes delicious.

Matt, if I see you posting something negative over in the C2 thread I'll be forced to report you to the Fulton County authorities.

Not really, though I could stand to lose about 25-30 pounds.

Which reminds me... I need to go exercise.

Whenever I think of Krispy Creme I feel slightly queezy.

Junk food just does not do it for me anymore.

Freakin' awesome! Is the chicken fried or baked? Something about the idea of fried chicken and a waffle swimming in syrup sounds pretty good right now.

Quoted for emphasis. Krispy Kreme donuts are never bad, but if you go in as they're coming off the assemply line, get one that's hot and fresh, and still don't like it... well, you're just not human.

Oh, it's fried, baby! Grease-o-rama! Actually, though, it's not too greasy, not like KFC greasy. It's just a really good combination. Although I go for the...I think it's number 9, which has wings instead of a breast. And they don't actually smother it in maple syrup, as the quote above says. You can add your own. Also very popular (although not with me) are chicken livers smothered in onions and gravy.
