1. Pretty much any Mario Bros. theme.

2. The Punch Out!! theme and several boxer entrances.

3. Excitebike.

4. Tecmo Super Bowl theme.

5. RBI Baseball theme

I've got many others but I don't want to leave some for the rest of you.

"pento".

after it disappeared from the arcade halls, i didn't think about it for years; then i downloaded it for m.a.m.e a couple of years ago and *wham*... the frigging theme song hit me like a freight train! i think i walked around humming it for at least 3 days after that first impact. and now it's back again, dammit.

the jazzy tunes from "railroad tycoon 2" did also have a tendency to stick around, so to speak.

Oh, God... the theme from Super Mario Brothers has been stuck in my head for monhs at a time.

The theme from Halo is pretty head-adhesive as well, but it's not quite so maddening.

Most of the music from Mega Man 2 has been in my head for years. And that's a good thing.

Metal Gear Solid 2.

It's better than most movie trailer music.

You ever notice how as the technology in this field has improved, the scores have become less iconic? Perhaps it's due to the restraints inherent to game design some 20 years ago, but if feature films can have memorable scores, why can't video games?

Great NES games have scores I still remember, great Playstation games? For the life of me I can't remember any bit of the Symphony of the Night score, and I love that game to death.

if you've played Beyond Good and Evil, that is one of the best music scores out there!

Double Dragon for the original NES. I still play this song mentally when I'm about to get into a scrap.

Too many Nintendo-philes in here. You guys realize there were video games before the freakin' NES, right?

Yeah, but seeing as how I was born in 84' I kinda was a bit young for most of them.

Nintendo was a sheer joy for me and my two brothers. If memory serves me correctly, it was released in 88' and our parents were generous enough to buy it for us in 89'. We had all the classic games like Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!, Ice Climber, RC Pro Am, Excitebike, Black Bass, Tecmo Super Bowl, RBI Baseball, and a number of other games which are still INCREDIBLY fun to play.

Sorry for making you feel old, Jacob, but Nintendo is what I grew up with, hence it is what I remember.

He's longing for the good ol' days of kickass soundtracks from games like Pac Man for the Atari 2600...

I never even owned a fucking NES. Cheap-ass parents...anyway, yeah, I know they exist, but I've rarely played them. I was weaned on the NES, SNES and Genisis. THAT'S where my memories come from. Oooh, the main sonic theme. And Plok! That opening harmonica thing was great.

Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time. I couldn't get that fucking song that plays during the credits out of my head for a week.

The battle theme from the original Shining Force is permanently lodged in my brain, due to my having spent most of 1994 playing it.

When I saw the E3 video for the FIRST MGS, for the first time I couldn't believe how cool that main theme was for a videogame. It was stuck in my head forever, then it happened again when I played the game itself, then again with the MGS2 E3 video and so on.

Super Castlevania IV has my favorite score of any video game. The original themes get stuck in my head constantantly, and the reworkings of the NES Castelvania tracks are just plain awesome.

SNES games have the best soundtracks hands down. I've owned an Atari 2600, Intellivision, NES, Genesis, Sega CD, SNES, 3DO, Playstation, PS2, and a Gamecube, yet the music from some of the classic SNES games is what stuck with me.

Though I can recall a few recent game scores I enjoyed.

Icewind Dale, UT2004, Metroid Zero Mission, and Castelevania Circle of the Moon all have their moments.

Whenever I win anything, I hear the victory music from the old, Nintendo Final Fantasy games in my head. Sometimes I sing it out loud. Only one person has ever recognized it.
Onimusha
Final Fantasy 3
Ghosts and Goblins
Super Mario Bros.

Very odd personal one here: There was a really crappy PC version of The Punisher for 386-era systems, but it had the CATCHIEST opening theme as you look at a load screen of the Mike Zeck Punisher coming at you.

Not really, I just like to work out some frustrations every now and then by starting the odd street fight, much like the dudes from Double Dragon. Nothing can bring a smile to your face faster than the scream of some punk when you crack him in the head with a stray beer bottle or two by four.

Is Double Dragon art imitating life or vice versa?

Unfortunately, I do. I do sometimes have the feeling that I'm missing out on a lot of life, because I find I can only bactrack about 20 feet or so, but never more than that. The bonus is I can give a hell of a headbutt and knee-strike my opponents in the nuts about 6 times in two seconds, so I'm relatively happy...

Are there lots of crates and boxes and trash barrels that contain money/food/medicine/ammunition in your neighborhood? I've always wanted to live in a place like that.
I live about half a mile from the International District in Seattle. A rundown Chinatown-like area with a lot of old Aisan-style buildings, martial arts dojos, and great noodle joints, so of course there are always crates, bottles, nunchucks, knives, and the occassional pistol lying around (with only with 6 bullets in them, more than that would be cheating!)

Of course everybody on the street had better know some kung fu, if not... that's yo' ass, I guess....
