Mortal Kombat 3 - A film by Roger Christian

Well, Christopher Lambert´s site confirms he (Lamby) will be Rayden in Mortal Kombat : Domination...

http://www.christopherlambert.org/currently.htm

IMDB lists Roger Christian (from the classic Battlefield: Earth) as the director, which is clearly a sign of impeding doom. MK2 was bad enough, but with this guy at the helm, i can´t even begin to wonder what it´ll be like...

What happened with Drew´s script, by the way? Are they still using it? Should be interesting to watch the movie with that in mind. Wonder how AICN would follow this...

On a happier note, Lambert is in the new Luc Besson film. This flew under the radar to me:

The first one was fun and Christopher Lambert stole the show in a good way.

The second one was so stupid it was hilarious.

The third one? I'm there opening day.

Seeing as Battlefield: Earth is an American Comedy Classic, there's no stopping me from seeing this opening day!

Battlefield: Earth made my eyes bleed.

Holy shit!

Roger Christian?!

My prayers have been answered!

Seriously... I pray he does it. It will be the perfect way to break that anal cherry of mine. Having the "director" of BATTLEFIELD EARTH direct something I wrote would guarantee absolute apocalyptic hilarity.

Pleasepleaseplease let this be true.

Shit, that'd be like Jan Debont doing something I was involved in!

MK II is the only movie I can remember falling asleep in. oh look shao khan is........zzzzzzzzzzz. The first one was alright, but the second one merits eternal damnation from the horned one himself.
From a male unicorn? That's not quite punishment, if you ask me. Not punishment at all.
Perhaps he's refering to Matthew Barney in Cremaster IV? I bet that would be pretty cool too.
Heh, I knew about this a few weeks back. A guy on another forum I frequent claims he was slated to direct this, but he was told to use a previous directors storyboards and so was unable to have his own 'vision' (For a Mortal Kombat movie? Give me a fucking break).

He then left the project and has a 'Space Trucker' movie that has Kelsey Grammer(!) interested.

And I'm really not making this up.
I bet the other dude is, though.
Shit, if this happens, I say we all get loaded and crash the premiere.
Shoudn't there be a law somewhere forbidding video games that don't make any money anymore from becoming movies? Mortal Kombat is off the map if you ask me.

I'm on the phone with Tom DeLay as we speak.
Oh come on, Roger Christian will do just fine! ...assuming he learns how to point the camera, as opposed to that tilted view bullshit... and he learns to direct actors... and he gets a decent special FX team this time around...

See? The odds are slightly better than winning Power Ball

Just the fact that Roger Christian is directing again I find bewildering.

It'll be real hard to show up at everyone's house when the VHS tape is released.

I could die happy if Linden Ashby returns as Johnny Cage.

Shit...what is Bridgette Wilson doing? Cause I can only watch Extreme Ops so many times, you understand...
Did roger ever learn to hold the camera straight?
No. He failed that part of the personality test.
Can't believe this guy is directing after BE. The casting couch must still exist.

Interesting. Deadly Alliance sold millions of copies and Deception received a couple of best fighting game at E3 awards. It's still a very huge franchise.
Worthy of Mr. Christian's direction for the movie.
So if Roger Christian does turn out to be the director of Mortal Kombat 3, does that mean Drew and Scott are obligated to rewrite the script in order to better suit the "sensibilities" of Christian as a director?

Think of how chafed and red that brown-eye would get by page 50. I guess that's the benefit of having a co-writer on board so you can switch off every fifteen pages or so, waiting until the other writer has finished off another king-sized greaser courtesy of Long John Silver's and El Pollo Loco. Hell, those two places are worth a good twenty six wipes a piece...

I think Deception was only in the top 5 or so... Considering there were like, 10 fighting games at E3... It´s no surprise MK was listed. Hell, the Fight Club game (!!!) was in the top 5 or so too!

And MK still sells, because most fighting games nowadays are too deep for the average, lazy, button-masher consumer. MK games are easy to learn and they have blood. Instant money.

Even old good franchises (Soul Calibur, DOA) are getting dumbed-out engines, because that´s where the money is.

Yes, but the movies sucked.

DOA didn't get dumbed down. It was already there.

DOA was never that deep, but DOA1 and 2 have a longer learning curve than DOA3.

Actually MKA did the opposite, where it used to be a button masher, now you had to learn the combos. You couldn't just string together random punches and kicks anymore. Which admittedly took the fun out of MK, although having swords was cool.

Well, they tried. Didn´t succeed, though. MK3 and on were just "fake" games. Enough to make the casual players feel like they´re playing something more complex.

To my knowledge, mortal kombat had a mythology to it in the first couple of games. I don't think anyone knows nor cares what it is now. So trying to make a movie now, in this day, means three words, straight to video, and all of these posts are moot.
Where the hell is my Street Fighter sequel, though?
Not that it matters, but I think McWeeny said a long time ago that they aren't using his script.
Raiden has LEVERAGE!
The first two sucked so bad this is definetly heading into Worst Trilogy Ever.

except Lord of the Rings..
Say what you will about part 2 but part 1 was actually a good movie. It got the mythology right and up until that time, the best video-game to movie ever (actually I think it still is but what kind of honor is that?). All we can hope for with part three is that it is a trainwreck of epic proportions. And please please please bring back the animalities .
Really like the first MK (it did pretty much everything right). This one better be at least better than the second. Have some decent fx work or something.

Also don't waste the best characters. Whats the point of having Rain if he isng going to toss lightning? Ermac if he isnt going to throw people around with his mind? Noob Saibot if he's just going to be some basic ninja in black???

Fighting games were best when it was all about the fireballs and dragon punches and "GET OVER HERE". This memorizing 100 button presses in a row shit isn't anything close to "fun".
Haven't actually enjoyed an Mk game since Mortal Kombat Trilogy, but I've got high hopes for Deception (BARAKA IS BACK!!)

Yea the mythology is really fucked now. What the hell ever happened to Shao Khan? These new "boss" characters are terrible (Quan Chi, Shinok, bleh.....)

The MK3 storyline could have made a really cool movie, with Outworlds armies taking over the world and hunting down Earths best fighters. Pretty unfortunate what we actually ended up with.

Dude... our work on this thing finished two years ago. Threshhold's been doing whatever they've been doing ever since.

They can't afford me now. All I have left to do is show up at the first show, first day, completely hopped up on goofballs so I can cheer at the magnificent horror of the thing.

DREW YOU GOT MY TERMINAL PREMIERE TICKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!
It'd be great if you got a screen credit. You'd never hear the end of it.
Well most of the people who would "scream" at Mori about it allready know he co-wrote it. I was the one who discovered it almost two years ago in imdb.com and when i told the guys in the AICN chat room they were all laughing at me callimg me crazy. Yeah thx, the crazy-o... tsk tsk

Anyway even if the movie bombs and it is totaly crap I don't see why we should blame Drew, he co-wrote it simply for money a long time ago and he never took it seriously(as much as i know).

Anyway Drew hows your "zombie-theme park" script going? Is it sitting on the shelf or are we ever going to see it happening?

I didn't mean we should blame Drew, and I certainly won't. It's not like Roger Christian has a spotless record. I simply meant that Mori would get shit for it, regardless of how much or how little of what he wrote actually made it to the screen.
