Haven't actually enjoyed an Mk game since Mortal Kombat Trilogy, but I've got high hopes for Deception (BARAKA IS BACK!!)
You´re contradicting yourself. SF2 was always complex (even World Warrior). Much more than MK. One can´t possibly be compared to the other. SF2 was never about the "dragon punches".

And the "fun" comment is a very common excuse for lazyness. Complex games are still enjoyable. If you can´t keep up, play in versus mode against another scrub. "Problem" solved.

I'd have to agree. The complexity adds depth, actual learning curves, and a lot more variety in individual character gameplay and gameplay in general, but games still have dirt-easy-to-play characters (Xianghua in SC2).

I never thought the old fireball/shoryuken stuff was fun.

But this is getting off topic.... if anyone actually cares about a third Mortal Kombat film.

The thing is, Roger may be a nutty fellow with bad instincts, but he's a nice guy who loves Hong Kong action films like a maniac. I'll never forget his line to me about how, "we opened big in Brazil and Thailand, so I think they might love us in Japan!"

Strangely, I no longer disbelieve that George Lucas "loved" "Battlefield Earth."

Your probably right. I just remember playing them pretty much the same way, and seeing them played that way in arcades.

Because it's not like "fun" is the point of games or anything.

Yea complex can be (and usually is) great. I just can't stand taking days and days learning just one character with all his various types of PUNCH and KICK. Virtua Fighter is my personal Hell.
I'd much rather be able to quickly try out the whole roster, and know "ok this is the guy that does thisthisandthis, and this guy freezes shit" and go from there. "Realistic" fighters seem really dull.

I don't even know why I'm fucking talking about this. I don't even LIKE fighters much anymore and havent played one in months.

I think I might be the only person in this thread who does. I have no hope that the movie will be GOOD, but I still want to see it because its MK and I've always dug the characters.

I'll say this... the summary on the IMDb is almost accurate for the first time ever. Up till now, it's been waaaaaaaay off base, and now it's pretty much the story, with one detail that's wrong.

Mori, Henry Clay is one of your ancestors? If so, awesome!

... he is?

According to the always reliable IMDb he is!

Matt... I have never heard that in my life, and I'm befuddled. I actually haven't clicked my IMDb link before, but poking around on it, I have to wonder who's been updating it and why. And that trivia note is bizarre. I don't know if that's true or not.
For my next trick, I'll send a link to IMDB proving what most L.A. folks have known for awhile...

...that MORI IS ACTUALLY THE SON OF BILL WATTERSON.

What's doubly shocking is that Mori's brother, Shecky, was the inspiration for Calvin - not Mori. Mori himself is the inspiration for the both of the "Mutts" and the small child the shark ate two weeks ago in "Sherman's Lagoon."

Curse you and your investigative genius, Smilin' Jack Ruby!!!

And pick up a phone sometime, beeyotch. Since you don't post anymore, the nights are cold and lonely.
C'mon, Mori... tell me there's a scene of Liu Kang watching Street Fighter on TV and bashing it. Nothing to do with the movie, but it'd be damn funny. And the only thing I could really pick from the synopsis as being off is Rayden as an Elder God. And if Sandra Hess plays Sonya, would this be one of the first times in history that a second sequel has mixed character casting from the previous two, considering the return of Lambert and Ashby?

YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT!

Well, Rayden took Shinnok's place as the wind god at the end of the second movie, so that's unfortunately accurate. I'm sorry I knew the answer to that.

I think the plot for the third one should just involve a portal to the past opening up and sending everybody back to the end of the first movie. Everybody comes back to life and are the original actors, and we all get to forget about Annihilation. And maybe there could be some kind of second tournament so we don't have to wonder why the only people on Earth who do any fighting are those three, or why an entire invading army chooses to fight one-on-one.

Of course, Scorpion shall have three little hand snakes, as it is the thrid movie. That's the pattern.

And his look will change to match Deadly Alliance's costume with absolutely no explanation.

People, we're all missing the big picture here.

Can you imagine how a theater full of drunken adults, immature teenagers, and small children are going to react when the name "McWeeny" appears on screen in big letters? That alone will make the price of admission worth it.

How does that work?

RAIDEN
What? But i´m.. i´m the Thunder God!

BAD-ASSER GOD
Fuck that. You´re Wind now.

That would be nice... except for Sonya´s actress. The second Sonya was much better than the I Know What You Did reject from part 01 (yes, i know MK1 came first).

Sindel in MK2 was nice too.

Shinok doesn't have an "element". Or if he did, it's never explained what that might be. Raiden can probably still toss lightning around and do that *bshzzzt* eye thing that somehow makes up for him never doing anything cool.

Plus in the temple theres already a wind god. Wind, water, and fire. Those positions are filled, aparently.

Just so all that's like....cleared up.

Rayden is an Elder God in the film.

Why? Because, uh... well... that's what the MK mythology bible that was given to us says he is.

He's got all the powers he used to have and a whole lot more.

It seems to me here that nobody remembers that one of the horrible twists in MK Annihilation (though I believe this was NOT the case in the games) was that Shinnok was the Wind Elder God, and Rayden & Shao Kahn's father. At the end of the film once Shinnok was found a traitor (for helping Kahn to open the portals to Earth Realm), he was put into a strange cube shape thingy and out of existence, and then Rayden went on to take up the mantle of Wind element Elder God from his father.

Good God, somebody shoot me for knowing that.

And damn it, Mori, I wanted the job of doing an MK film script.

I remembered all of this, except that it's never said that Shinnok is the Wind god...is it? There was a wind god when Raiden went to the Temple of the Elder Gods right? So was that supposed to be Shinnok?

I never, ever thought I'd be arguing about this. You have to believe me!

And no, Shao Khan was never Raidens brother in the games. I might be wrong, but I don't think Shinnok was even an Elder God. Wasn't he just some really powerful sorcerer who hung out with Quan Chi?

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation completely fucked the mythology in order to get as many characters on screen as possible. Hopefully Kombat 3 doesn't waste them in the same vein as Rain, Sheeva, Baraka, and Mileena.

By the way, in the first game (in the arcades) it was "Raiden", but later on (from ports to sequels) it became "Rayden", right?

A mythology bible? Cool.

Actually it was Rayden in MK1, Raiden in MK2. But then again, didn't Deadly Alliance change it BACK to "Rayden"? Holy crap, my head's hurting...

Cogs is most-correct on this part, I don't think they ever "fully" show that Shinnok is the Wind dude, but if I remember correctly there is a scene where he refers to using his Elder Godly powers to open a portal to Earth. I'd watch the movie again, but I'd rather not make my eyes bleed.

And yeah, Kahn and Rayden are not related in the games and Shinnok was just a hugely-powerful sorcerer guy who had Quan Chi get him a special Amulet of Power (via Sub-Zero) which made him really strong. I dunno my MK4 knowledge (aside from it turning out Quan Chi really killed Scorpion's family in an act to blame it on Sub), so I can't detail how he got another tournament started.
