Rue Morgue Canadian horror convention

Who is going? Are there any Canadian / Torontonians going? I sure fucking am with a couple friends. I think it'll be a fun time. Can't wait to meet Romero and Savini!
Goddamn, why don't any of these conventions come to Vancouver?
I want to go to Vancouver. Would that be good enough? The Amsterdam of North America, hell yeah.
We have a neat little restaurant that is actually called The Amsterdam Cafe. I don't remember the name of the street, it's in the 'marijuana' or 'alternative' district.

They sell a wide variety of pot related products, and their menu includes all the wonderful things a person with the munchies craves. They have things like warm milk and cookies, macaroni and cheese, chips, cake etc. and a few items have a little pot leaf next to them, meaning they are special.

I've actually seen people smoking their pipes in there quite at ease. I'm not sure how they are getting away with it, they must have found some legal loop hole.
I'm going. 2 months to go...and tickets still aren't available
post #6 of 72
Isn't marijuana pretty much legal in the Great White North? I've considering moving there many times, you just gotta get rid of the socialized medicine...

ANYway, I know the Rotten One is planning a trip up there for it, so if any of you guys do go, be sure to be on the look out for him. He'll be the guy with the gaunlets on that looks like he could kick your ass without even blinking.

But he's really very nice.
I'm going to try to go, though I can't be sure I'll make it. If only my girlfriend [my rides,] didn't hate horror...
I'm definately going to be there with a few friends of mine. I can't wait for this thing. Rue Morgue has done so much for horror culture in Canada as it is, I can't wait to see what they have planned for this thing.

They've been swinging back and forth about de-criminalizing it here for years, but that's about it. I know a lot of people just don't care anymore. There's a place in Toronto called The Hot Box Cafe, which is pretty much as the title suggests (Although it might have been closed down by now - I don't really know. Don't touch the stuff myself).

HOWEVER, when there was talks to de-criminalize it, I saw a report on the national news about the number of states in the US that have already de-criminalized pot use. Staggering numbers....
Huh? There are states in the US where pot is legal? Where?

Sorry, thread killer.
The thing is it's not legal, just de-criminalized. Meaning that no criminal charges are laid if you are found with any pot, you'd just be given a fine. It was a while ago that I watched the news report, so I'm not absolutely sure of any of the states where pot is de-criminalized; Although, I think New York state was mentioned(?) Someone please correct me here if I'm wrong...
Yeah, I'll be there......waiting for ticket info and schedule is killing me!
i am looking into it right now and will try to come and bring some of my buddies from my site.
It's 'Pot Talk' with Johnny Butane.

So was Illinois decriminalized?
I'm there like a she-bitch. Look for a crew of punk/goth folk walking around, that sounds easy at a horror-con, doesn't it?
Hey guys, we'll be releasing the info regarding tickets and special events very soon. I hope to see you all there. Make sure you introduce yourselves! I'm easy to spot so come up and say Boo!

Re: Rue Morgue Canadian horror convention

Well I live in Toronto and I KNOW there hasn't been any nice horror con's here recently or EVER for that matter. SO this is going to rock to the maximum degree.

I like your enthusiasm. Anyone else want to make an offer?

But seriously, this is going to be my first convention and I'm getting pretty excited for it. I'm also looking forward to meeting some corner dwellers there; and if Ryan makes good with his statement, even better.
Um, er, well, about the "drinks for all" thing...

yaaaaaaay

I think I'm going to pay the 40 bucks and get the deluxe package. I think it'll probably be worth it. I can't wait, there is going to be so much cool stuff there. I hope rotton cotton has a booth, or some kind of tshirt place. I wanna buy some cool tshirts. Ones with horror movie logos on them. Ones that look cool. Cool horror movie tshirts.
Plane ticket? Purchased.
Point me to the nearest cafe with the smoking lamp lit.

talk people
Anyone who is going feel free to drop me an email I got a whole crew coming from MoviesOnline and be great to say HELLO and meet some new people who love the movies

Cheers
Pics please.

I won't be able to come since I broke the bank on my car and can't visit all the fine folks I've been chatting with the past few years.

Have fun, drink plently of alcohol, and do everything I would do.
Alright, let's talk then.

Let's get an update on who's going.

Who's going?

I'm going.
I'll be there. It's at the convention centre, right? Be happy to buy a round for any Chewers who turn up.
I will have my camcorder, and my digital and will be doing interviews.. have it all arranged with the event organizers.(press passes) If you are going email me at michael@moviesonline.ca and lets all hook up. I think it would be fantastic for us all to go grab a few drinks.

I have a room in the international center... and will be there at least 2 days
post #40 of 72
I'm going! Got a deluxe pass, as well as tickets to the Jodorowsky double-bill, and over $300 to blow. Will be wearing that wonderful Creature Corner shirt, if it gets here in time. I hope to pick up some Joe Coleman prints, among other things. Maybe some of the horror-oriented coffee. That shit sounds cool. Anyone have any word on what they will be screening, besides Joe Coleman's movie, and the new Misty Mundae movie?
I'm going, my friend might be coming along but not sure yet if he is

the movies that they are showing are playing at http://bloorcinema.com/ I think I know on aug 29 they have a big thing at this theatre. check the pdf file on the left hand side to check the schedual for the showings and such

if you guys have never been to the Bloor cinema it rules it's an old timey large one screen theatre with a balcony and everything. I've sadly only gottin to see one movie here but its a great screen

for those that want to say he here is a bad pic of me, I have shaven my head since it was taken but other than that it's pretty acurate, just copy and paste the address into you address bar to be scared shitless

It sucks being a poor bastard!

Maybe next year.....
I'll be there with a friend of mine. Just bought tickets today. This will be my first convention so I'm looking forward to seeing all the stereotypes I've read about...oh yeah, and the anime cosplayers.

I like that you refer to your girlfriend as "your ride". I'm sure she loves that

Damn, it's only in a few weeks! Man, I don't think I'm gonna make it. The scratch I need for that won't come through until the end of the month, anbd I gotta pay rent! Shit! Well, we shall see. Guest list looks kingly.

Oh well, if Bush gets re-elected, I'll probably be able to catch next year's show. Hell, I plan on walking there.

PS Jen, if I saw you at the Expo, I'd have a lot more to say to you than "Boo"!
Any Chewers coming in who need a hand with directions or anything, give me a shout at nitebelow@hotmail.com. Be happy to help out. Otherwise, see you at the Con!
The greatest thing about Toronto is that everything is divided so easily into squares, so it's hard to get lost. I am coming from Waterloo, and it's the fuckiest city to navigate. Streets constantly changing into other streets and than back again, totally insane.

Oh yeah, and I'll be there with my big ass earrings and hardcore trucker hat! I AM CANADIAN!
Waterloo reminds me of Boston in terms of driving difficulty, on a smaller scale...
finnaly got around to ordering my tickets, my friend is coming with me but he prolly won't get friday off so I'll be flying solo for the first day of the show, I found a pdf file with the show's schedual a little while ago if I find it again I'll post a link
post #49 of 72
