Bears finally get a DE to replace Dent

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?id=1864611

Only good thing Wanny(i know he's not gm)ever did for the Bears is trade Adewale Ogunleye to them. You can find a WR anywhere but to find a guy w/ 15 sacks is rare. Bears got better fast. Not a Super Bowl contender this year but they could make serious noise next year if Grossman and T. Jones are the goods.

Bears might actually be able to beat the Packers this year if Farve doesn't have all day to throw the ball.

I hope they can agree on something.
I'm not really sweating the secondary - Roman and Ahmad Carroll have looked up to the task so far in training camp; I could live with Sharper and Roman at S, Harris and Carroll at CB and Hawthorne coming on in the nickel.

The DL is a bit more troublesome, but you've got a nice NT in Grady Jackson and a near-elite edge rusher in KGB. Hunt is solid and shows flashes - you'd like more from him, admittedly, but he's decent enough. The problem is finding quality depth at DE - Kampman and KGB aren't a bad pair, but both need to be platooned to play at peak effectiveness.

Raiders... Wild Card baby!

Has there ever been a preseason in recent history that had so many significant injuries (significant to their respective teams)? It seems like there is an inordinate amount of non contact injuries going on. Troy Walters just broke his arm, granted that was with contact, but still all these players going down are valuable contributors to their teams.

Kinda disappointing when you see all these injuries happening.
Every year there are injuries, it's just this year it seems to be happening to the skill position players. The year Trent Green went down and we were treated to the emergence of "Kurt Warner," there were several injuries.

I mean, the Jaguars just had their third-round pick (a DE/LB named Jorge Cordova) get hurt and he's gone for the season, but that didn't grab the headlines that Correll Buckhalter, David Boston et al did.
who went down that was very significant this year? Last year was way worse when Vick went down. Killed many fantsy drafts.
vick and pennington were big skill positions last year, but this year its left and right

Anquan boldin
Marcell Shipp
Brian Urlacher (not too serious though)
Corell Buckhalter
Troy Walters
Tim Rattay

They arent all studs at their positions, but most of them are names that are good for spot starts off the bench.

the bears way over payed for o-gun. i'm not sold on him at all. booker is maybe the most under rated reciever in the game. nice pickup for the dolphins who also get a 3rd rounder.

What were the issues with him? From what I've seen so far, he seems to have his head on straight and hasn't been roasted yet despite playing significantly in both preseason games.
please stop whinning about the injuries in preseason, it's a necessary evil and just as many guys get hurt in TC and in mini camps. Boston WAS NOT a preseason injury it was a TC injury, as was O'Dwyer (bucs G), Boldin WAS ALSO NOT hurt in the preseason but rather in TC. Get your facts straight and stop complaining just for the sake of complaining. The days of showing up and playing are over, these guys need to get their body ready for the season and that takes some practices and warmup games, the product is better for it when the season starts.

My biggest thing was he wouldn't do shit all game, then finally make a play, then talk smack. Like when we're down 31-3 to UGA in the SEC championship game, he's out on the field talking shit, blowing up, despite not doing a damn thing to stop the bleeding.

Raw skill, he's got a ton, and he seems to be light years ahead of even where he was this time last year, but I'm still not sold. I really was excited when we signed him (our track progam sold him apparently) out of Alabama, but I never was impressed. Still, the Packers saw enough to take him in the first, so let's hope he lives up to his potential.

ya that is a good point canucklehead. A lot of injuries have been in camp. Either way, its just surprising to see so many people go down. I also may have to disagree with your statement that these guys need the preseason games to get their body ready for the season. Frankly, it seems like coaches are so wary of getting anyone on the first team hurt that they barely play for 5 minutes of game time. I don't know how much that helps you get into shape, it may help timing issues between qbs and recievers but that is about it. LT has been sitting the past two preseason games to avoid the contact and I really doubt that he is going to be out of shape come week 1.

Preseason is a great tool to gauge rookie's and other prospects though. If the first team didn't even play in preseason games, I would have 0 problem with it, and the way most coaches are playing it nowadays it seems like the preseason will eventually become a 2nd and 3rd team showcase.
That's true to an extent although i wouldn't say that vick isnt benefitting from those 5 minutes with his new WC offense or say mcgahee who hasnt seen a carry in 18 months. I do get your point, all im saying is that in most cases ppl just complain about the preseason becus its cool to do so and don't actually know what theyre talking about. Injuries happen but if you did a study im sure that there's more of them that occur during mini-camps and TC than in actual preseason games.

Jaguars say 'sayonara' to Hugh

So much for the "new and improved" Hugh Douglas.. Jacksonville cut his ass in the first round of cuts, not even bothering to keep him around until final cut-down day.

What a waste of $27 million. His cap value this year is around $3.3, and next year he'll cost the Jags $3.6 without being on the squad.

At least, unlike with Bryce Paup, they chose to cut bait early, rather than keep an overpriced unproductive player two years too long...
if he signs with philly he might still put up 10 sacks lining up next to kearse, walker and simon....espn.com said he was unhappy in jacksonville, thats no excuse but maybe thats part of the reason he sucked so bad...

10 DAYS TILL KICKOFF
he has signed with philly so he should do ok. i think having simon there will help him more the kearse. fuck kearse was a bum for all of the last half of the season. he isn't the same player he wa sin his rookie season.
interesting. First trotter came back and now hugh douglas. Its like an eagles reunion. Maybe reggie white will come out of retirement too and join these guys.
Don't forget about Seth Joyner, Eric Allen and Emmitt Smith's favorite safety Andre Waters! Ah how I loved those Eagles teams.
Yet they will still lose in the NFC title game becus andy reid put his balls away for safe keeping while calling the plays.....

9 days till kickoff GO BUCS
Ok, further proof that the Arizona Cardinals will continue to be the worst franchise in the NFL (now that the Bengals have someone who knows what he's doing as coach)...

Running back Troy Hambrick walked out of Oakland training camp two days ago and expects to be released.

Arizona says, "Hey, we'll trade you a draft pick for him."

When, if they just waited, they could have had him for nothing after he was cut free.
Theres something in the water supply in Dallas i'm sure of it. Hambrick looks to have a very long NFL career alright. Its official Deion " Primetime " Sanders is a Raven. Amazing that a 37 year old CB is getting this kind of coverage. You'd almost think it was yesteryear when the 9ers picked him up. Should be interesting to watch nonetheless.
HE'S BACK.

Deion vs kellen winslow Deion vs Chad Johnson Deion vs Hines Ward

3 great trash talking bouts all twice this yr, im getting giddy

Choking reporters is a bad thing for Hugh

Hugh Douglas, contract in hand with Philly, decided to take some parting shots at Jacksonville yesterday.

Douglas told Philadelphia reporters on Tuesday that the Jaguars' poor attendance "wasn't good for Hugh Douglas.''

Douglas added that some Jacksonville reporters "were just killing me. I mean, killing me. And I can't go around choking reporters because that's going to cost me money. No, I'm not blaming [poor play] on the media. But I never knew words could sting so much.''
So instead of choking reporters, he decided to choke in games...

Good riddance.

Just thought I'd post another reason to hate the Eagles. They're the only team whose logo faces to the left. All other logo's face to the right. Damn them for not conforming!
Tim Couch has been released and the no.2 job is 36 six year old Doug Peterson's for good now. So Couch goes the way of Smith, Leaf, McNown, Shuler. I was surprised he lasted this long honestly. I'll never forget that the guy had what a handful of passing plays at Kentucky and nonetheless he was touted as the next big thing. Ridiculous.

What is he, The Rock?

He and Tim Couch need to be on the same team.

And in other news...Lamar Gordon was traded to Miami for a 3rd round pick. Might be a good FFL sleeper.

Except he really didn't impress that much in St. Louis and got beat out by a rookie. Face it, Miami's source of rushing touchdowns is going to be Jay Fiedler.

It's a column by Gregg Easterbrook on NFL.com, that note about the Eagles logo was in this week's version. TMQ stands for Tuesday Morning Quarterback, and in a lot of his columns, he'll have an item where a team uses his 'advice' in a game and the heading is always 'Best use of TMQ.'

lamar gordon had some shining moments in the last two seasons when faulk went down. We will see if he can take a full season workload.
If the Bills and 'Fins weren't both in the AFC East, I think Miami would have tried to work some kind of deal to trade for Henry or McGahee. Who knows...I'm sure they probably inquired about it.
McGahee returning to Miami would've been fantastic. Considering all the NFL talent that the Miami Hurricanes export each year, I hate how the Dolphins barely ever end up with any local players. Vernon Carey was an anomaly.
Welp, tonight's the night. AFC Title game rematch, and of course I have to fucking work. You'd better believe that the entire demo wall of TV's at Target will be showing the game, though.

Game-wise, I'm more than a little concerned about the Colts. I don't expect them to win this game. The offense could be more explosive this time around and I guarantee you Manning will play better than the last matchup, but I don't think our defense got any better. It'll definitely be a trial by fire for a lot of players; Donald Strickland starting his first game at corner, 4th round pick Jason David at nickelback, Cato June at OLB. I'm hoping they'll prove me wrong, but I think these guys are going to get trampled by Dillon. We'll see. I wonder how much of an impact the new defensive secondary rules will affect the Indy passing game.

Oh, and about the "new rules". They're not really new rules. I love how such a huge, massive deal is being made over the officials' public decision to actually enforce the existing rules, i.e. you're not allowed to tackle Marcus Pollard on a pass play or punch Marvin Harrison in the diaphragm 10 yards downfield.
Miami and Tennessee are appealing to the league to move their game in Miami to either Saturday afternoon or Saturday evening, since it looks like Hurricane Ivan is going to make landfall sometime early Sunday morning. Word is if they don't make this move, it would take about a dozen schedule adjustments -- mostly involving changing bye weeks -- to make up the game.

Now why do I see the NFL for some reason balking at the simple solution and making everyone jump through hoops?

Well, I suppose it has more to do with the effect rather than the written word. If it wasn't enforced before, it's hard to say it was always there, because a rule that isn't enforced is not much of a rule at all.

It's official, they're playing Saturday afternoon.
Is there any chance that we could get some national coverage of these games, perhaps on a cable station? Only the local CBS affiliates for miami and tennessee will be showing it from what I understand.

No, you're confused. Bud Selig is the BASEBALL commissioner.
fucking nfl! ripping all of the nfl sunday ticket subscribers off of the dolphins/titans game. they're citing that it would lower the rating's for the college football game's that are on at the same time. they're gonna show the game on tape delay tomorrow when 9 other live game's are playing. who is gonna actually watch this? i'm so fucking pissed this game isn't coming on live. i can just imagine how the dolphins or titans fan's who specifically got this just to watch all of their game's feel. if this was a raiders game i'd go absolutely insane. the nfl should be sued by the hundred of thousand's of customer's who by this package.
They said the game would be televised in only the local markets. Well, this apparently means Miami and Nashville, because I'm barely four hours away from Miami and I'm stuck with US Open tennis. Shouldn't be surprised, since the league decided that, even though Orlando has been a Dolphins town since I was a kid, we should be forced to be a Jacksonville market, so if they play at the same time, it's the Jags we get, even if the Dolphins are playing the Jets with a playoff spot on the line and the Jags are playing out the string.

And if Hell Paso is right, you can't even go to a fucking sports bar and watch it. Sounds more to me like CBS saying, "Hey, we paid a ton of money to show tennis, don't you dare put an NFL game on against us, especially one we have the rights to show."

Makes me kinda glad I have to work today, I would have missed it either way.
this really does suck, i dont care about either of the teams but im chomping at the bit to see more nfl after thursday night. This reeks of MLB, this is the first real fuckup in memory for tagliabue...Canada finally got sunday ticket and lol at least for today we're in the dark just as much as we used to be...
Yea, it's a fucking joke. Living in a state with three NFL teams, and yet we can't even watch them play. NFL ticket subscriber here for 5 years now, and it can be frustrating. I subscribe to the MLB package as well, and that's just as fucked up with the local market bullshit.

Like Pox said, it is a crime that US Open tennis is on right now here in Orlando rather than the damn Miami game. At least there's some college football on, otherwise I'd be really pissed.
Doesnt look like we're missing much though..fiedler still stinks although chris brown is looking like a stud

7-0 at halftime
