I don't understand trolls.

What's the point?

Do people see the anonymous nature of the internet as a free pass to be everything they wouldn't be?

Do some people actually have so much free time on their hands that they think posting dozens of pointless, inflammatory posts within moments of each other under numerous screen names to piss other people off is good fun?

What drives people to seek out ways to attempt to ruin experiences for other people? Surely, the stereotype of a pathetic nerd living in his mother's basement can't be true for some trolls. Some HAVE to be normal people. So what's the deal?

I just don't get it.

Exactly. And the less we talk about it, the less trolls we'll have. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Ignore them, and they'll leave. The only reason they do it is because for some reason they get off on knowing that they annoyed the message board regulars that actually come to the site for good conversation. I will forever hold to the belief that if we would just stop responding to/talking about them, they wouldn't bother us anymore. But I seem to be one of the few who actually hold that opinion. We tried the whole "Ignore them, and they'll go away" bit.

They got bored quickly and came back. The problem is that they literally have nothing else happening in their lives. Nothing. That's why they obsess over us so.

It takes them however long (days...weeks, even) to craft phony identities, mask IPs, and scheme pointlessly. Takes me 4 seconds to get tired of them and delete them and everything they ever posted here. As long as they're doing all of the work in this arrangement, I'm okay with it.

Not that I like the name, but I'm not sure how GET AIDS NOW = gay bashing. I don't like the name, or the all-caps, but I don't think it necessarily qualifies as a slur against homosexuals.

Welcome to the 1980s when being HIV positive means that you're a homosexual.

Close, it's the episode where they make fun of Jared from Subway. He has this big speech where he says "GET AIDS NOW!". Everyone thought he told everyone to get the virus but he was talking about getting aids as in helpers. Because that was how he lost so much weight.

your argument might hold a little water if you practiced what you preach.

the words Get Aids Now, while in bad taste and inappropriate to some, are just words put together.

if the owner of this site is not banning him (the only way to make him change his name) then there is a reason for that.

He has not done anything to harass anyone and his name is only considered an allegory to gay bashing to one person.

If it is an exercise in free speach to allow his name, there should be no banning on any names.

just because everyone is not jumping on the bandwagon of banning and censoring, doesn't mean they approve.
