Wow, Big Rich used "fuck" and "you goddamn fucking stupid fucking asshole" a lot more when he said adios to me in email. And then over at Scorched Planet, where he suggested, "Let's all have a day where we e-mail Nick and tell him how fed up with his shit we are. One day we'll hit Nick, the next Devin, and the next Slater. Also, if we all send pics and applications it should clutter up their mail space so they can't get shit." And then in another email to me, where he called me a cocksucker. And then again in the SIX MORE emails he sent me before I finally put him on my blocked addresses list.

But yes, by all means, let's definitely mourn the passing of another person who took the internet far, far too seriously.

Big Rich was a fool who got himself in to the mess he was in. No blaming on it anyone else.

Posting goodbyes and all that silly jazz after he is gone is just adding to the mess. Stop it. It's a movie message board, talk about horror movies or body parts or whatever talk should go down in the corner, but to turn the site and boards into a soap opera is plain disrespectful and stupid.

Devin didn't get anyone banned. People are leaving because they feel there's a double standard going on...which of course there is.

A lot of folks don't like that Devin can get away with whatever he wants...trollin', teasin', provokin'...just because he's Nunz's best updater on CHUD Main. They don't like that he's worth more than they are and that Nunz has no problem saying as much.

So instead of shruging it off or learning to ignore the little fucker...they get pissed and make a big shittin' ta-doo about it which in turn pisses Nunz and His Overlords off.

And hence...they get banned. Or they realize this shit isn't worth it and they leave on their own, which is what is actually happening more these days.

Which is fine. What isn't fine is a lot of attitudes around on main. Nunz isn't helping matters much with his belligerent tone of 'you don't like it...FUCK YOU and leave!'

And neither are The Little Nunz's, guys like Slater and Tony Ryan who want desperately to become Overlords themselves. Like a vampire's familar...they roam around the boards keepin' track of people's posts to inform The Master when people get vocal.

I find it funny that they tell people to get a life while taking time out of their non-lives to crack on shit they have no business crackin' on.

It's like signing up on another rival message board just to take notes or post under different handles about how much THEY suck.

As far as Big Rich goes...I don't know why he either left or was banned. I didn't know him. But I understand why he would say goodbye. Cause what some don't understand is that people actually make friends here, people who will wonder where they went.

So who gives a fuck if they say goodbye to people who matter to them? It only turns into a soap opera when limpdicks join the conversation to make fun and drama out of it.

Then again those who do are only pissed that they won't be remembered as much as those who will. Kinda funny, that.

What I admire about this Creature Corner part of the boards is that you kids are your own island. You have your own laws and ways and rarely do they cross with the outside boards.

The only problem with that is that you don't realize that this is Rick's Place. Butane is Rick Blaine and The CHUD Message Boards is Casablanca.

And dudeabides, I didn't join this thread just to take easy shots at a target who can't defend himself here. Everybody in this forum seems paranoid that people are getting randomly deleted from these boards for no reason, which really isn't the case. Big Rich was psychotic (seriously, he wrote me like seven emails in a handful of hours...who does that?), and he continued to cause problems all over the boards even though people were telling him to drop his I-hate-Devin shitfit. People aren't getting randomly banned here, but people who troll the boards after being asked to stop *are* getting the ol' assboot. So folks should just settle down. There's really nothing to worry about.

Also, not taking the internet quite so seriously (see: Django) is a big step towards A) not getting banned, and B) not worrying endlessly whether or not you're going to get banned. It makes everything a lot easier.

I've been on these boards for close to 4 years now. I have had several run ins with Devin and you know, it's just not worth getting worked up over. I pretty much stay over at the CC messageboards, because I don't like getting ticked off all the time by people trying to get others riled up. I also don't like the freedom that Devin is given on these boards to bash people, especially those of us who are Christians. I have even talked to Nick directly about him and how some of the things that he has said could possibly hurt the site. I do not understand why some of the things that have been done are allowed to happen and as a result, I usually never post anywhere but here. The thing is that, Nick owns this site and it costs us nothing to go to it, so it's like visiting someone elses house. You may not like the crazy Aunt who likes to pinch and twist your cheek, but it is up to the home owner, to ultimately decide whether or not to tell her to leave. He may keep her because he likes the way the cookies she bakes taste, who knows, but it is up to the home owner to decide who he wants as guests in his house. I'm just glad that we got the basement, where most of the obnoxious guests don't go. (For me, this is the cool place to hang, anyway.) So all examples aside, life is too short. Pick which battles are really worth fighting over and go on with your lives. You only give someone power over you when you let them into your emotions. If you want to be here, you have to overlook Uncle Nick's crazy realitives and respect that even though this may be our hangout, it is still his house.

Except that this house would be completely empty and useless if no one visited it.

My review sucks so far? It's a complete review, so I would think it sucks all the way to the end.

I don't post to often in the corner but I read through it sometimes. I take it a lot of you guys in here only post here and not in the other chewer forums correct? Whenever I read Big Rich's posts IN HERE they always seemed normal and he contributed fairly intelligently to discussions.

Problem is, you should read what he posts in other forums. He would spout off some of the most inane, offensive, insane(literally fucking insane) things I've ever read. He just made himself out to be this horrible little man. It was kind of like he was two different people. He probably should have just stayed in this forum as he seems to only be able to intelligently interact with people who are big horror fans. Him being gone is no big loss at all. As Slater said, anyone who takes a stupid message board so damn seriously probably needs to work on things in their real life.

Anywho, I saw "The Attic" yesterday and what a fucked up movie that was.

The thing is, people get roots in a place and enjoy the company/discussions that happen on various boards. When things go FUBAR, its like watching a really bad sequel to a movie series you loved. Makes ya cranky. And sometimes irrational and prone to fits of asshattery.

What many messageboard folks on both sides keep forgetting is that to the owners/mods of the place, its their homestead. Which means a proper sense of hospitality to the guests is required. However the guests are in fact guests and shouldn't go into the den and start dating Rosie Palmer to the host's porn collection either.

Usually its one side or another that forgets these simple facts.

Which leads to bad things in a place that should be fun.

I rarely venture out of CCorner here, but that's because everything discussed in the other forum sections I can discuss with folks I am comfortable with on a tabletop RPG site who appreciate the All Flesh Must Be Eaten Roleplaying Game. Because RPGs where you can have your very own Zombie Apocalypse are kickass!

And that was exactly it - it sucks that you folks here at the Corner lost a contributor, but he was just fucking ridiculous in the other forums.

I find it funny that anyone who runs any of these internet film sites has the gall to slam someone for their sense of decorum.

I vividly recall viewing a Webmaster panel at the 2000 ComiCon that featured the likes of Harry Knowles, Chris Gore, Ron Wells and even Nick himself that turned into nothing less than a pathetic shoutfest that exposed most of them for what they were -- inconsequential people who desperately wanted to be perceived as important.

Honestly, the debate was tantamount to:

"You suck!"

"No, YOU suck!"

"Fuck you, you suck more!"

The best part of the entire incident was the fact that Kevin Smith was there, and he mocked them all for their moronic behavior before walking out and taking most of the audience with him. Which left the Webmasters sitting around looking like a bunch of catty little girls who'd been slapped.

One of the most pathetically funny things I've ever seen.

Moral of the story - don't take any of this shit seriously. You're most often dealing with insecure people who lead drab lives, have shitty jobs and get their jollies by yelling at or provoking other people on a message board -- anyone remember when HAM and Devin traded personal insults for days? I do. Look at it for what it is, and don't let it affect your personal lives. This is a website -- not some bastion of integrity.

Think back. I acquitted myself very well on that panel.

I think leaving a board over disagreements is a bit of a cop out. And even worse is a banning over a disagreement. It is the internet version of 'taking your ball and going home' and is childish. Of all the boards I have Modded, I have NEVER had to resert to banning even the wildest of trolls. It can always be talked through, or the law can be laid down up front.

So, unless this was a direct Terms Of Use violation that is clearly defined as a removable offense (whcih it does not sound like this was the case) I have no pity for either side and figure it is a bit of ntizen Darwinism. Some we may lose, and others might be exposed for a bit more of their true self.

But the rest of us grab a boomstick and keep on going. this isn't wussy CHUD discussions about Titanic or the English patient after all.

Let me clarify -- I had no problem with you, Nick, as you weren't involved in the goofy theatrics that were going on. Indeed, Sarah and I both enjoyed meeting you, and I still consider you to be a nice, down to earth guy. The panel itself was out of control, and you looked like you were in the eye of a hurricane. The majority of the b.s. went down between Harry and the Film Threat guys, and that was pretty embarassing. But it seemed at the time to be indicative of the constant squabbling that goes down all the time online, and it proved that most of the folks involved in these sites are human and are just as prone to infighting as everyone else.

People are people, and they bitch and call each other names on occasion. That's just the nature of the beast.

And Rain Dog, Smith was basically just disgusted with the petty arguing -- he stood up, declared the entire proceedings to be a load of crap and then stated that he was leaving because he had better things to do. Much of the audience followed him out.

It's an interesting snapshot of the history of CHUD & CC, if nothing else. Nice to see some things never change, but I am saddened by the number of handles I don't recognize. Looks like CC may have lost a lot of good people. Unless they're all back under different names & I just don't know it.
