Mega Man Anniversary Collection

Oh baby...this is going to be SO sweet. Comes out tomorrow, the 22nd, for PS2 and Gamecube. It's only 30 bucks, too.

I think I'll go for the PS2 version, the controller would be better suited. The only difference between the versions is the video bonus features. I believe the PS2 has an episode of the Mega Man cartoon, the Cube has interviews with the creators.

The game will have Mega Man 1-6 from the NES, Mega Man 7 from the SNES, and Mega Man 8 from the PS1. Included as a bonus are the Mega Man: Power Battles arcade fighters, wich are somewhat amusing.

Unfortunately, 'Mega Man and Bass' isn't on there (that came out in Japan for the SNES). That was a solid game,
worth tracking down the ROM for.

I can't wait to get knee deep in the NES ones. I will conquer them ALL!
Yeah, I can't wait for this one. (The PS2 version, of course.) Mega Man 2 remains one of the best games of all time. Getting the other nine games, and all for under thirty bucks...that's just icing.
FUCK YES. I can't wait to listen to the sweet sounds of Mega Man 2 again.

Found another minor difference between versions. According to Gamespot only the PS2 has the optional remixed music, wich is apparently done well.
Mega Man 2 is where it's at, baby. That is an awesome deal. I wish that they would release this collection for Xbox, however.
I just read that the buttons are reversed on the Gamecube version for some stupid reason. B to jump, A to fire. Yeah, right, like I can just ignore the fifteen years of platform gaming that's hardwired into my thumb at this point. The right button makes Megaman jump, the left button makes him shoot. It's not that goddamn difficult.

Factor in the Gamecube's horrible D-pad, and I know which system is getting my thirty bucks tomorrow.
The game uses two fucking buttons and you can't customize the controls?!

After playing the old Ninja Gaiden games I think I'm going to pass on this.

Well....um...Wal Mart didn't have it. I'll check KB Toys tomorrow. I hope I don't have to hold out til the end of the week.

Can't wait to annihalate Wood Man...take his powers..and use them to exploit the weaknesses of the other bosses. It's genius.
Stop whining about the controls. The Gamecube version controls just fine. No complaints here.

And Mega Man 8 kicks ass....I had never played it before.
I still say that Mega Man 2 has not only the best bosses, but the best weapons out of all the games.

The Leaf Shield rocks.
This is going to complete my life....nostalgia forever!!!
Question? Do these games autosave or do you still use a password. Man, writing down a dozen passwords to each game does not sound like fun...
Yeah, they autosave every time you beat a boss. Pretty neat system, actually.
I'm so glad I happened to click on this thread -- I didn't even know this was coming out. While I do kind of miss scribbling thousands of passwords on my "password notepad," I WON'T miss entering 6 or 7 different ones because I can't remember which is most recent....
It still annoys me that we have to choose between good unlockable bonus features (Gamecube) or good controls and remixed music (PS2), but I'm just happy to finally have these games again. Mega Man 2 still remains about as close to perfect as a side scroller can get. And the autosave feature and mapping the slide move to the O button are such great additions. THIS is how compilations should be handled.
Damn....why won't 5 o'clock come so I can leave work and buy this?????
Man, I had forgotten how Godfuckingly hard these games really are. The sheer balls of the Dr. Wily level in Mega Man 2, where they ask you to play through FIVE levels in a row and fight every single one of the bosses again, all with only three lives...it's insane. Oh, and the giant green dragon that blasts after you when you're hopping across the white blocks remains the first and probably one of the best "Holy SHIT!" gaming moments out there. I love it.

Buy this disc, people. Best thirty bucks I've spent in a long time.
I'm never going to beat any of these games. Ever. Megaman 2 is the single hardest game I've ever played. But I've still been playing it solid for 3-4 hours.

I'm going insane.
Yeah, it was long ago that I came to terms with the fact that I would NEVER beat a Mega Man game. And fighting Flash Man in Mega Man 2 cemented that fact.
Dude, the original Mega Man is like ten times harder than Mega Man 2. I actually remember the amount of time it took me to beat both games when I first got them 15 years ago--Mega Man 1: a year and a half. Mega Man 2: Three days.

Just bought this last night.. the Gamecube controls are annoying me, mostly because its uncomfortable. I'll get used to the reversed buttons eventually, but the D-pad is cramping my hand and the analog stick isn't as useful. I'm using the Wavebird though, maybe the original controller is a bit more comfortable for this. Up to Dr. Wily's stage in the original Mega Man and I'm having old-school fits again. Without the pause exploit I think I'm screwed.

Quickman's weapon will take Flash Man out pretty quickly. (Natch.) Probably stating the obvious here, but all the robots are severely vulnerable to at least one weapon. If anyone wants me to spoil them just ask. (I played MM2 a lot.)
I'm just annoyed by the fact that I used to beat the first three Mega Man games on practically a weekly basis when I was a kid, and now I'm getting the ass kicked out of me. I know these games haven't gotten harder, but the only other possible choice is too horrible to contemplate.
I'd ask if this was still worth getting if I had 1-6 on my Dreamcast, but there's not an X-Box version....

Damn you, Capcom
By the way, I need the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection now. I loves me some 2D fightin' (Sony be damned).

Glad to hear that the Mega Man Collection is holding up well with people.

I just read about this in the new GameInformer, the select button was a huge help.

That's how I feel. When I was about 8 years old these games came naturally to me. Now they're frustratingly difficult.

Verbal, if you want to kill Flashman easily let him jump over you while using metal man's weapon, shoot it vertically in a rapid fashion and you'll juggle him to death.
I can't beat Metal Man!!!! He fucking pisses me off. I got through his board without dying, but I couldn't kill him.

The swapping of jump and fire sometimes gets me, too.
I need to buy this. I loved MM2 as a kid, played that everyday.
To beat Metal Man, use Heat Man's weapon. Fully charge up and I think 2 shots should do it.

Good God, I can't believe I remember that after all these years. Ah, memories . . .
Is MM2 really as hard as you all say? Back in the day, I thought 2 was the easiest of the bunch. The original is probably the toughest.

I especially dug the music in the Flash Man and Wood Man stages.

MM2 is definitely the hardest. My buddy has it on his modded XBox; I was playing it over Spring Break and it absolutely OWNED me. I felt exactly like Slater.

Then again, during the Wood Man stage I'm concentrating more on dancing than watching the screen.

I can't find this game anywhere. It was sold out at Best Buy and every other place acts like they've never heard of the game.

Gyarrr, hard ye be to find. No stores here have it, they look at me like I'm some kind of fucking crazy person.

"Oh yeahhh. Your the guy that called before about the...MMMMEGAMAN. WE DON'T HAVE IT."
Man, fuck Mega Man 2. I completely forgot about the worst boss ever devised...the room of laser sensors that can only be defeated by Crash bombs. And you have just enough Crash bombs to kill them all....

...except for the fact that they're all hidden behind green walls, which also require Crash bombs. So the only way to win is to destroy the walls, let yourself die, fight through the level again, and destroy the sensors. Unless you accidentally miss with even one of your bombs, or if you enter the room with less than 100% bomb energy, in which case you get the honor of playing through the level THREE times in a row.

Fucking douchebag game design.
In other MM news, I beat three in like twenty minutes. These games were all over the scale.
God, I hated that "Crash Bombs" boss. But I love the challenging nature of Mega Man 2. They just don't make games like they use to. Mega Man 2, Blaster Master, Batman - hellishly difficult but fun games.

Finally got it, tearing through 3 before 2 because I'm a huge pussy.

The games feel nice and tight on the PS2, I am very pleased so far.
Slater,

You're probably well past this part by now, but dying on the Sensor Boss isn't necessary - there are only two walls that you have to destroy; you can use Item-1 to get around all the others, so you have exactly enough Crash Bombs to get by. The problem is that sometimes the hit detection on the Sensors is off, and the game won't register their destruction properly. A few times I've destroyed the last Sensor... and then walked into it when the Crash Bomb didn't kill it on impact. Doh!

These babies haven't aged a day. I'll be playing the shit out of them for a looooong time. The simple pleasures of Snake Man's stage, like climbing some towers into the sky for floating platform action, beats most recent gaming moments.
These games are also treasures for the character design, especially those of the bosses. They're cool even by today's standards.
Damn it.....I've been playing this shit all weekend, and the games are owning my ass.

In 1 -- I can't seem to take out the MegaMan clone. He fucks my shit up every time.

In 2 -- I can blow the front off of Wily's ship, but once the energy balls start bouncing at you, I can't avoid them.

Still....these are the best games ever. Metal Man's buzzsaw is the greatest video game weapon ever devised.
Megaman 2 and 3 were both pretty easy for me, never had to much trouble. But Megaman 1 on the other hand was impossible for me, never could beat it without a game genie.

And I actually never played the other Megaman games. I'm gonna have to get this collection.

I used Fireman's weapon.. it's definitely a battle of attrition, but if you can get two or three hits in a row somewhere you'll be ok. He gets knocked back with every hit (just like you) so you can try and time it to keep him pinned down.

Dr. Wily, on the other hand, handed me my ass without the pause cheat.

MM1: I use Bombman's weapon for the clone. One, it's the one weapon that's easy enough for you to avoid coming from the clone.....Two, the dumb bastard is fool enough to RUN INTO THE BOMBS....

MM2: War of attrition, man. Try not to get hit blowing off the front of the ship, use Metal Blades like there's no goddamned tomorrow when you see Wily.

I hate to say it....but, SOMEBODY needs to mention the obvious, seeing all the trouble people are having all across the gaming world with the old titles:

Newer games have made us soft. We've forgotten what it was like when a developer would allow a game to put foot to a gamer's ass, and the MMAC is a beautiful reminder of that.

Statements of new generation heresy aside, I'm addicted to these games all over again, and thank the sweet deities beyond Capcom made it.

Now, if Konami would be so kind as to do us the same courtesy with a Castlevania Collection, (1-4, Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night), the world will be a better place indeed.
I found the Elec Beam to be really useful against the Clone. If you jump and fire, his own beam will usually miss you and he'll jump into your own, which will push him back and interrupt his attacks. Never had too many problems with him.

Amen to that, brother! And thanks for the tip. Tonight....the clone goes down....

Fuck.

My roommates and I had been working hard at this game, with 2-4 beaten, Wily's stage open in 1, and 5 on the verge of defeat. Well yesterday my friend loaded the game and memory card file was "corrupted" and we lost everything. We were playing it the real way, normal mode, 3 lives and no codes so it had been quite a challenge. Has anyone ever had this happen to a Gamecube file before?

Questions to ask before chalking it up to memory card gnomes:

1. Is it a third party memory card?

2. Did you turn the game off while it was saving? (even a second before or after the "saving to memory card" screen comes up is hazardous.

3. Do the rest of the saves on your card still work?
