Run all Windows games on Linux!

CEDEGA

Wow! This sounds very promising...finally being able to run all Windows games on Linux without the overhead of Windows. I can't wait to read more reviews on this product. If it kicks ass, I'll be building a Linux gaming box for sure!

I don't have any way to test this out now, but if this works I'm switching platforms. Fuck Windows and fuck Microsoft.

Haven't clicked the link... are they emulating DirectX? That could work, I suppose, though I'd be a little worried about games that implement cutting edge features.

EDIT: Yeah, it's emulating DirectX and other key components of Windows. I wouldn't expect much of a performance increase, by the way.

Macs

I'm not very wise in the ways of UNIX, but isn't Linux a version of UNIX? Could this be run under a system based on UNIX (such as MacOS) through its UNIX portal (X11)?

How about in PowerPC Linux distros?

The farther afield you get from your Wintel hardware the less likely this will work. I don't know the specifics, but I reeeeally doubt it would run on a PowerPC Linux, and I flat out refuse to believe you could get it to run on a Mac.

You're probably right. Emulation is a tricky thing. Lord knows Virtual PC sucks.

I emailed the company to see what they say.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but it would be a beautiful thing if you could. *sigh*

I'd love to see the overhead, emulating DirectX doesn't sound like the greatest thing ever.

It's hard enough to get Windows games to work on Windows systems. Take the above with a large pinch of sodium chloride guys.

People still own Linux? Damn.

Hah! Ain't that the truth. Yea, that's definitely one of those "see it to believe it" type of deals, but it is, in theory, pretty cool. Can't wait to see actual reviews on it.

For mac people

Check that out. They're actually getting pretty close to doing it. This team has finished porting Qemu and is now working on combining Wine with Qemu functions so that it can run natively on OS X.
