Ohmigod..PLOT in a Bond film?

(Leadup is that Bond20 may be a political thriller in Ireland)
Quote:
...it would suggest that the next Bond movie would forsake its usual globetrotting aspects in favor of a stronger story and less locations. Given how careful the powers that be at Eon Productions are with the Bond franchise, will they risk offending movie goers with a potential touchy story in an effort to make 007 more edgy?
One could dream.
I've always wanted to see a Bond DRAMA. Yes, I know the bond formula...girls, explosions, girls, gadgets, girls, bullets, and maybe an interesting villian. But Bond, as two dimesional as he is, has some great potential for drama. Not long, drawn out scenes, of course...he's stoic. You don't want to go against character and have him in a long, serious confession scene or something. But the best scene in Tomorrow Never Dies (yes, I know, most of you hated it) is when he's throwing back a shot in his room after running into Teri Hatcher. The mask cracked...Brosnan is great at showing Bond's *character* when he can grab it. It's the best glimpse since George Lazenby's reaction at the end of In Her Majesty's Secret Service.
Now, I'm not hoping for a remake of a Few Good Men...that's going way too far. Bond IS about stunts and explosions and staying calm and cool and stylish in the face of iminent death. But it'd be nice to see some of that tension in Bond leak out in a few scenes here & there. He's a great character, I love it when they actually SHOW us some of it. There's something a little more solid about him than an Arnold or Stallone character, less comic-booky despite being the originator of the glib smarmy action hero.
So, one can dream.

And the above is why, until the death, I will defend Timothy Dalton as Bond. He showed pain, and fallibility -- and the plots of both of his films were more complex than all 3 of Brosnan's ...

Actually, Blofeld, I'll be there right beside you. Unfortunately, despite Dalton & the plots, the movies were poorly directed & paced.
Dalton's main failing wasn't Dalton. Even Connery sucks with bad directing.
But Brosnan's still my favourite. Yes, better than Connery (He was the original, he's cool, his movies were better...but for the character itself, I still like Brosnan better.)

Despite my Achilles Heel with movies being that I like all of the Bond films. I have to say Dalton did a damn fine job of bringing James Bond to the screen.

Each actor has brought something different to the role, good or bad. Dalton was the first one though who made him appear to be human. I read a review once that said:

'Dalton failed because he portaryed Bond as a sensitive guy who actually cared when his friends got killed.'

Not sure I agree with it, I *did* prefer License to Kill to the Living Daylights, which seems a bit messy. But I think the storyline lets them down way more than the main actor ever could.

Anyway, back to the point. I don't think they'll court too much controversy with this plotline, a franchise a successful as the Bond franchise has to 'play it safe' in the eyes of the hollywood execs in order to keep it alive. I think Pierce Brosnan is mostly the motivation behind this move as he has always said he'd love to shoot a James Bond in his home country.

Come on though, this is BOND No. 20!!! They need to do something spectacular or different to mark the occasion. (And that doesn't mean an EVEN BIGGER EXPLOSION AT THE END, scriptwriters!). I desperately want to be suprised and amazed by this, and have a Bond film that me and everyone else can agree is great!

Dream on...

Not a fan...of Bond...only liked...Thunderball....
I can't tell if VG is being funny or not.
(If you're not, VG, Thunderball is usually considered the worst of them, unless you're Hastur, who just likes the fact that Sean runs around the whole film in a speedo. Or unless you count Never Say Never Again, which has only one good scene...the cigarette case "bomb")
As for big No. 20 extravaganza, never fear, I think there's a madman trying to blow up the entire world with a potato distillery.

That's why I'd like to see one. I'm a rebel. Let's go one step further...have Harlan Ellison write the script...no, wait. It'd never get produced. Scratch that.
As for Brosnan...well, I was never a big Remington Steel fan. I like him more from his dramas, like "Nomads."
I love that movie, even if it seriously dates itself as 80s horror.

I told y'all a couple of months ago...he wants to take Bond on a mission with a younger partner, then die and have the partner finish the mission, at the end assuming the mantle of Bond. He said it's an idea that he's been kicking around but is having trouble putting it past the producers.
