Find me an RPG please

Presently in a gaming rut. Nothing's really grabbed a hold of me to bother playing. Sure Unreal and Splinter Cell fill a void, but I'm looking for something somewhat, but not really, long term - a role playing game.

Morrowind kind of fits the bill, but some funky technical issues keep happening that prevent me from enjoying it (and I've patched that bugger too). Instead I pick it up once a month.

I haven't played one that was immersive as Knight of the Old Republic. I'm looking for something just as addicting, any suggestions? All I need is a great storyline, graphics aren't an issue, and gameplay has to be king.

Chrono Cross. Chrono Trigger.

Are we talking consoles? PCs? If consoles, which one(s)? Check out Skies of Arcadia on Gamecube if you have one.

Which system?

PS2 - Suikoden 3, Disgaea, FFX and Dark Cloud 2 are all pretty solid. Dark Cloud 2 is kinda zeldaish. Actiony, but with story and RPG elements.

PS1 - FF Chronicles, if only for Chrono Trigger. It is greatness. FF Anthology for FF6/3. Star Ocean 2nd Story, Xenogears, Vagrant Story and Valkyrie Profile are pretty kick ass. You'll have a hard time finding them, though.

PC - Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate 1&2 and Anachronix. Mostly the Fallouts and Planescape.

GBA - Golden Sun 1&2, Tactics Ogre and FF Tactics Advance.

I've got more if you want any. I can suggest good SNES and Genisis ROMS...

Shit, yeah. Dreamcast - Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2. I almost forgot about my beloved white system.

thanks for the replies....my platforms of choice would be PC, X-Box, GBA, and if I really had to - the gamecube.

Loved Skies of Arcadia...but don't want to play it again right now.

Mario Golf or Mario and Luigi for GBA.

Yup, both of these would be great. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga for the GBA is one of the most entertaining games I've played in a good long while. Highly recommended.

If you can wait until July 13th, for Gamecube, Tales of Symphonia comes out, looks very promising, also Sudeki for Xbox comes out July 20th i believe, another promising RPG.

mario golf is an RPG? (finished the awesome superstar saga in may)

Until I find a nice game to settle into - I've just re-installed the baldur's gate games. Though now would be a great time to buy into a PS2 and catch up with the Final Fantasy games.

Yes, yes it would. I picked up a PS2 last month and, of course, my first game on the system is FFX. It's a very good FF game... if you've played several of 'em, you know exactly what to expect. It's good enough that I plan on picking up FFX-2 when I finish it.

It's got major RPG elements, though you still play golf. You get experience from playing rounds or matches or doing training games, which is used to upgrade your drive distance, or control, and various other golf stats. It's a really good golf game with heavily integrated RPG elements.

just been reading some of the reviews and it sounds like a kick ass game to get lost into, though I'll still be kicking around with Baldur's Gate.

The best PC ones are the Baldur's Gate games if you ask me.

Although really the best system for RPGs is the PS2. The Suikoden games are good, especially the 2nd one if you can find it. Final Fantasy Anthology and Collection are both real good, so is Anothology. And Final Fantasy Tactics, if you like the battle system, will keep you busy forever. Plus there's also the Lunar games and the Arc the Lad collection. But those are all really PS1 games.

As for PS2 games, Disgaea is real good, Suikoden 3 is great until the last couple of chapters where it kind of falls apart. But Suikoden 4 is hopefully coming out here this year and it looks promising. Plus FFXII is starting to look real good. As for right now Breath of Fire 4 is supposed to be good, I have it but havn't played it. It was real cheap at EBgames awhile ago, about $14. I also got the Arc the Lad game for the PS2 but havn't played it yet, it was about $12 at ebgames.

The XBOX has knights of the old republic of course and the sequel to that probably coming out early next year. Also Fable is coming soon (so they say) although that's more of an action RPG but it looks good. Sudeki may be good too, if it ever comes out. And Jade Empire looks to be good when it comes out next year.

Gamecube has Skies of Arcadia, which i have not played but beat the dreamcast version, I'll get to it eventually. Also Tales of Symphonia looks promising.

Re: Find me an RPG please

Sacred.

Anyone play this. Is it worth it? It's not a real rpg - more of a Diablo knock-off, but it has freshness going for it...as clearing out the mines of Naskel kind of bores me right now.

Arcanum and FF7 were great.

I just downloaded the demo for Beyond Divinity. I'm not too sure what to think of it. It's kind of cool to have two characters who really don't like each other going through the motions. The game doesn't look like shit on the higher resolutions, unless you zoom in, and I'm nearly sold on the game. (but freaking Spiderman 2 just came out - now I'm all confused)

The humor in it all works; almost Planescape-ish in a way.

I am sold on Beyond Divinity. I was on the fence, but after finally levelling up my dude, this became the rpg for me (until fable hits). I like the skill system. Being able to specify exactly how you want to build your character when it comes to magic or melee weapons. I'm just a geek for this kind of thing.

Now, I just need to find a store that sells the retail copy. (and find time between this, reviewing, and playing the copy of spiderman 2 I just picked up tonight)

Planescape: Torment

The Warcraft 3 expansion. Seriously. Especially the Orc campaign

Fallout

put your money where your mouth is regarding gameplay >> graphics. Download the free demo of Geneforge.

Less story but tactical gameplay that shines: Silent Storm

For the love of god, do not get involved with this game. Yes, it has all the fun hackin' and slashin' of Diablo II in a huge, relatively open world. Also, there are horses. What's not to like?

Well, for starters, the game was about 4 months from being finished when they released it. Q&A for this game obviously consisted of a marketing guy looking at the box art and say "Looks good!" Some problems include:

Abysmal netcode. I played this game with some friends on a LAN, and there was still lag. I was literally 2 feet from the server and the two other players, but there was still significant delay.

Lack of stability. We ran our own dedicated server. At first, it worked fine. Then, it would crash occasionally. After playing for about 6 hours, the server or clients would start crashing every 20 minutes. This becomes very frustrating when your party-mates are out in the wilderness asserting their superiority over the goblin population and you have to spend 10 minutes running out to meet them. Of course, by the time you catch up, you've got about 20 of enjoyment before either the server or another of the clients crash. Yay!

Overall general bugginess. Sure, there are horses, but half the time when you get on one, it refuses to move. Or, you'll do some small side-quest, but the game refuses to admit that the quest is completed. For example, you'll get a quest from some villager saying "My sister is out in the forest! Find her and escort her back!" So, you go out into the forest, find the sister, and escort her back to town. Her brother seems oblivious to her presence, so the sister will just follow you around for the rest of the time you are playing (or until she gets herself killed). This becomes extremely frustrating.

All and all, this game has great potential, which is really the worst thing about it. If it was dumb or bland, you could just say "screw this buggy piece of shit." As it is, you really WANT the game to work. The fact that it doesn't becomes a personal affront. In summary, perhaps in a couple of months they'll get all this worked out (as it is now, each patch simply creates new bugs). Then it may be worth checking out. For now, though, it's better to avoid it. I mean, I didn't pay for the game I was playing, and I STILL felt ripped off.

I like it when people start off their posts with, 'for the love of god'....seriously.

Nope. I didn't sell my soul to Sacred. Actually, I reinstalled diablo II this weekend and played a bit over the lan with the wife. Been awhile since we did that.

I tried to get Geneforge running on this comp, but my monitor is really anal right now and doesn't want to switch resolutions or colors. (I think I might secretly install it on the laptop sometime this summer)

Geneforge and Geneforge 2. I'd say the Fallouts and Planescape Torment too, but I guess you've already played those.

Been digging on the old school charms of geneforge 2, after secretly installing it on the wife's laptop - don't tell...

Also dug up Skies of Arcadia for the cube and have been kicking around with that game. Neverwinter Nights is becoming really boring as of late....the quests aren't all that interesting to do, I kind of think I should've used a different character class than the paladin I've spawned - and maybe gone the wizard/magic route...

I don't know if it qualifies as an rpg, some sites do, I've started a new game of Freedom Force.

jesus, my gaming is all over the map - thing being nothing has grabbed me by the curlies fully completely just yet.
