Massive Xbox Live Ninja Gaiden Update

Thread Starter
Man, this is cool. They could probably have thrown this into a box and called it Ninja Gaiden Game of the Year edition and charged for it.

New Enemies: As you can see in the latest screenshots, there are a few new, mammoth enemies added throughout the levels. There are no new levels, but just imagine some of those old areas now having all new, tougher baddies. And, from what we hear, there are more enemies than what we seen in the screens.

New Weapons: There are three new weapons available in Ninja Gaiden Download. From what we understand, they will likely be available in the shop during the course of the game, but it's possible that one or more of them may be hidden in the game or earned from defeating bosses. The Bo Staff is featured prominently in the new screens, but don't worry, we'll have info on all three new weapons soon enough.

Mystery Extras: As you can see from the screens, Ryu has at least one new costume (a throwback to Dead or Alive and also appears to have some new Ninpo. What these new spells might be remains a mystery for now, but don't worry, there's other goodies we know about that more than make up for the mystery items -- just keep reading.

Improved AI: Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki wanted to add some extra challenge to an already difficult game, so the AI has been improved to make all enemies smarter. Expect an even greater challenge, no matter what difficulty setting you choose.

New Camera: Now we get into what makes Ninja Gaiden Download a landmark Xbox Live download. Hearing the complaints of fans, Itagaki redid Gaiden's camera. You'll now have full 360 degree control of the camera. The camera will also be smarter, so you shouldn't have to worry about it being in too close or at the wrong angle when in a fight.

Action Engine: How do you improve Ninja Gaiden? Make it faster. Yes, you heard that right. When you download Ninja Gaiden Download, you'll get all of the above improvements, plus an upgraded engine that makes the action even faster. What will be faster? Everything. Ryu, the enemies, and most importantly the combat. All of it will come quicker requiring even greater reflexes. Think back to what it was like playing the "slow" version of Ninja Gaiden and imagine tossing shurikens while running along walls and battling four of those annoying brown ninjas at once. Now speed that up. Hear that sound? That's your brain about to explode.

Ninja Gaiden Download will be available in early August for Xbox Live subscribers who own a copy of the original game. An exact date and details on the second round of the Master Ninja Tournament are forthcoming, but remember that there's absolutely no need to be a participant in the tournament in order to enjoy Ninja Gaiden Download.

We'll have more on Ninja Gaiden Download and the Master Ninja Tournament very soon. And if you're wondering if this is it for Ninja Gaiden downloadable content, keep in mind that there is a third round of the Master Ninja Tournament still to come. Could we see Ninja Gaiden 1.2? We sure hope so.

Excellent.

Holy!
The fact that they're making it even harder just completely boggles my poor little mind.
Wow. They're even changing the camera controls... I'd be pleasantly surprised with such an extensive update for a PC game. But there's never been anything like this in a console game, has there? Adding enemies and weapons, sure... but correcting the problematic camera? Bulking up the A.I.? Upgrading the whole game engine? Incredible.

They are making Ninja Gaiden faster. Those crazy sick fucks.

Normal...after playing through several times is now a breeze. So making it harder doesn't sound as bad to myself as it might to others.

Faster? This I gotta see...
I could practically run through the game without stopping last time I played on normal. I can't think of any reason to speed the game up though, it already has a perfect feel of being just shy of out of control.

Braggart. This game sits on my shelf of unfinished games. Maybe I should pick it up again?
The fun-to-work ratio of this game was just a bit too much for me. No thanks.
The broken controllers this game contributed to by me throwing them against the wall say that I shouldn't even look at this thread.

Too late.

(Ugh, that first sentence was awful. I'll leave it there so you can see the grammatical trainwreck.)
Add me to the bragging list. I didn't find the game all that "OMG this is so hard!!" my first time through, and I welcome a little more of a challenge to "Normal" and "Hard" difficulties.

This comes out today right?
So how can folks who don't have Xbox Live get a hold of this update? Will the update be included on an OXM disk or will a new version of the game be released in the future? I have yet to buy the game, so I'm currently in a wait and see mode.
Nothing announced yet but speculation is that there will not be a content only disk, instead a special edition game with the new content will be released for the holiday season. Also, the rumors of the game being faster aren't true, but the new weapon is supposed to be sweet.
I don't want to buy it again. Saying that the game is one of the finest i've ever played. Simply wonderful. I'd really like to try the update. Yet no X-box live for me either. Btw anyone know where the old Gaiden thread went?

Trying now....

Well...I hqaven't died on lelve one in quite some time.....
Uh---oh...I'm beginning to re-live those first few days of playing this one where the controller almost became a projectile...
The difficulty has been raised that much?
Well the issue is currently that you're facing enemies that you have beaten prior when you had more life and more proper techniques to use. Facing the pider ninjas in groups of 5, 6, or 7 isn't as fun when you can jump on the guy's head yet can't do the strong Y slash that did more damage. The Lunar is nice but I can't get used to it just yet when I'm forced to face enemies that aren't so willing to be hit.

So yea it's a little frustrating and I'm sure it ain't gonna be easy for the first few levels. But that doesn't bother me as I know it would bother others...
Let me know what the giant guys with the triceratops heads are like when you get to them.
Packs of cats.....oh me oh my....

I'm on level 5 and it seems they ratched up the difficulty....I knew level 4 was a bit too easy....

Oh and the Lunar is freaking awesome to say the least. Upgrade it and it becomes even more freaking awesome...
Okay...you know that move you do when you jump and press the strong slash? You know how that keeps you moving and most enemies can be defaeted pretty good with that without getting hurt?

Well they gave the damn thing to the cats and they ain't afraid to use it...
Does the Lunar have a jumping Y slash like the regular sword & flail?
Well not really. What it does have is an attack that goes straight up (there is a spinning attack) and then comes down hard with a move that can usually killl guys in two times. So the sword still remains a big assest in this game but even with flying swallow it ain't easy.
There is a second Hurricane Pack coming out, it's due in December I think.
I see what you're saying, CTDeLuDe. Sounds cool actually.

How's the "improved" camera system?
It works but I've found that the original camera just works better for me anyways. I think it's great to have both kind of cameras though...that I'm impressed with. Otherwise I just stick with right trigger pulling.

Had to stop at the skeleton boss....those damn zombies made me use all my potions so I'm gonna need a bit of luck to beat the damn boss seeing how he attacks in different ways now.

Another interesting thing is that you no longer have to have essence floating around to build up a max attack....just hold down Y long enough and you'll see two "busrts" and you're full max. Which works wonders for the zombies since they take forever to attack whgen they can't see. Luckily the Lunar does decapitate the m too.

Oh and the intercept is good stuff. Not as difficult to pull off as the reviews made out and definitely useful if you can master it. In fact that's pretty much the only way to build up awesome karma stats.... Chaining them (which isn't easy) definitely is nice to see.
Alma....oh...my freaking....goodness.

No Flying Swallow attack because she just dodges with no problem. Lunar works but she is almost never on the ground to attack....and with the lack of inferno....oh man....

You see these guys yet CT?
Sounds like the game got even more insane..
Oh I did and oh it does get insane...

The game was certainly harder (finished it up a week or two ago) and I still enjoyed it a ton. There is something immensely satisfying about beating a game that most people just can't beat. It's like the first time I've actually been able to do that with video games.

Took me a damn week to beat Alma btw.... I could only take it one or two hours at a time. That and I totally restarted the game to be better off by the time I got to her.

Again, just a great game they made better.

Can't wait to see what Volume 2 does to the game.

Oh, and final boss is no longer a push over....

Oh, and these guys are indeed tough. They have a couple attacks, stuff like mulitple swings...throwing you up into the air and then taking a swipe at you....getting really mad when you break their "helmet."

They're tougher than some bosses actually, especially when you get 'em in groups.

Also...I think I'll end up finishing like just below 500 or something.....MAYBE.....
