Films most in need of remakes

Thread Starter
Maybe "in need of" isn't the right term, but films that you think would benefit from an update (or "reimagining" ). There are enough crappy and unneeded remakes coming out every year, so which ones do you think the studios are overlooking?

I'm watching The Andromeda Strain on AMC right now, and this is one that is still interesting, but really dated. And since it was an ensemble piece to begin with, it would be ripe to stock with good character actors, put them in an enclosed environment, and ramp up the tension.

Red Dawn.

Replace the Russians with Arabs. The box office in the South alone would make this flick gross more cash than Titanic.

'Salem's Lot need a real version, that doesn't look laughable...
The Lord of the Rings (or at least a reediting of the trilogy)

Modern Day Phantom...by someone that did read the book and set it in the modern day, not smoke a lot of weed and then pound out a script....(No offense to the DePalma fans out there...) There would be the same anime influence, but he'd look more like the main character of "Argentosoma" with a metal mask drilled on half of his face instead of an evil member of "Gatchaman". And the bad guy is a Yakuza boss, while the heroine gets a love interest that doesn't want to kill her...

And I want to see "Fearless Vampyr Killers" remade as the musical "Dance of the Vampyrs". I guess I'm irritated it had a short run and never played in Chicago or got to see it in NYC...

"Ghost Story" needs to be remade as a nasty and dark HBO mini-series that adheres closer to Peter Straub's amazing novel.

And, speaking of novels, I'd like to see someone like Fincher take a crack at "Something Wicked This Way Comes".

The one in need of remaking? Easy. Logan's Run. This movie has aged BAD. Great story but really dated.

The Stand: As good as you could get for network television but it would really kick ass as an uncensored HBO series.

I heard that "Logan's Run" might get remade...as well as "Clash of the Titans".

Bryan Singer's doing Logan's Run in Canada, before he moves onto X3.

Well I hope they don't touch "Clash of the Titans". Wasn't that Harryhausen's last movie? I love the stop motion in that film. It makes it unique. If it goes CGI, it would be just another generic Sword and Sorcery CGI flick.

In the words of Brian Unger, "This is a movie that says 'Be grateful that we have CGI'." But MGM's redoing it no matter how anyone feels.

Now I'm thinking someone's going to remake "Old Dracula" with Steve Coogan and Beyonce in it...

Or "Terror Train" with Eliza Dushuku in the Jamie Lee Curtis role and Criss Angel in the David Copperfield role? Well, I would see it if he were in it....

I think that THE STUNT MAN would be a great movie to remake. The original, though mildly entertaining due to the performance of Peter O'Toole, is very dated. It's a great idea that was handled lightheartedly, and could make a superb action/drama.

I love the original but the China Syndrome could use a remake.

Perfect? I don't see how anyone could consider it perfect. To me it is a very flawed piece with a lot of great concepts that weren't used to their full potential. I think either they need to remake it or do a prequel like Lance Henriksen suggested in the commentary. There were elements that were fucking fantastic (pretty much anything that had to do with the vampire family, the bar scene, etc.) And there were elements that felt boring and unnecessary. (The love story angle, the annoying main character, blood transfusion?) If they made a movie concentrating almost entirely on the energy and chemistry the family had and kept all the namby pamby crap in the background it could be a perfect movie.

I would be interested in a Remake of Star Wars:OT

I would love to see a remake of 11 Harrowhouse.. I never even knew this movie existed until I saw it one weekend on cable years ago and I think someone could make a nice update of it Ocean's 11-style.

Also, how about Heaven Can Wait? (minus Chris Rock, of course..)

Proyas beat me to it. Or hell, even a remake of the prequels, at least TPM, in a slightly more fan-oriented manner (What? I'm not Lucas-bashing, just playing what if here.)

I'd like to see a new Tron, perhaps they could make the recent PC game into an actual movie.
