My local paper printed this list today and I must say I highly disagree with some of it's picks, I just wanted to post it to see yous guys reactions to it.

1) Superman II
2) Batman [1989]
3) Superman I
4) Spider-man
5) X-Men
6) Batman [1966]
7) The Rocketeer
8) The Phantom
9) Supergirl
10) Daredevil

aaaaaaand GO

[Where the jesus is X2?!?!?!?!]

They listed the Phantom and Supergirl in their Top 10.

This publication wouldn't happen to be Weekly Reader...would it?

I have NO problem with this being #1; yeah, the effects look a little dated, but in truth, I prefer slightly clunky "real" effects to the omnipresent CGI. Great flick.

2) Batman [1989]
I've heard all the anti arguments on this flick, and I understand some of them - but I think this gets points for Anton Furst's brilliant production design and Keaton's understated performance. Again, no issue.

3) Superman I
Should be on the list, shouldn't be this high.

4) Spider-man
Again, no issue. I'd probably put this one at #1 - Raimi did a GREAT job on it.

5) X-Men
Inferior to X2. Singer made lots of changes, but got the spirit of things right.

6) Batman [1966]
Yeah, this is a great super hero flick - if you've just smoked a pound of weed. The Batman series was decent fun at times, but a complete joke as far as a faithful comic adaptation goes. Might as well put the Saturday morning version of Shazam! on here while they're at it.

7) The Rocketeer
Fun little film, probably doesn't belong on the list.

8) The Phantom
9) Supergirl
I have to plead ignorance, as I've only seen brief bits of these two. Suffice it to say, I highly doubt they're better than, say, Hellboy.

10) Daredevil
This movie was FUCKING HORRID. There were the bones of a GREAT film buried in there, too, but they dropped the ball and made an absolutely ass-tastic piece of trash.

Wanna spout venom at the man responsible? It's from my local newspaper, the guys lists are always CRAP. I just realised it was Batman '66 when typing it.

[I know, Hellboy and X2 were shafted]

I'm going to be carried out on a rail for this but what the hey?
Dick Tracy. The cinematography is incredible on this movie.

Two more I'd put on the list would be "Ghost World" and "Road to Perdition". Hellboy would be on this list but it needed a better variety of bad guys.

It was superhero films, not graphic novels. Those flicks are great but obviously don't fit the stated criteria.

Anyway, any list of this nature that includes Daredevil isn't worth a thread on this message board.

It's been a long day . You think superhero, you think comic books. Okay, then scratch "Road to Perdition" and "Ghost World" and insert "Darkman"and ummmmmmmmm "Solo"

Just thought of another great super hero movie: "Unbreakable"
1) The Matrix
2) Unbreakable
3) X2
4) The Hulk
5) Darkman
6) Spiderman
7) Superman 2
8) Batman 2
9) Hellboy
10) Rocketeer

Matrix is the best live action anime/comic book/super hero film ever made. Even though the sequels ruined it.
Most of the population will disagree with me on the Hulk, but I don't care. Dig up the Hulk threads on the main board. I have enough intelligent arguments behind me that I know that I'm not crazy.
Spiderman and Hellboy could both rank higher if I didn't hate the villians. In the case of Spiderman, I almost HATE the movie because of Willem DaFoe and his bullshit Green Goblin.
Yeaaahhh.........Rocketeer is kinda cool.

hate my list, love my list, it's my list. It's better than any cunt who includes Supergirl, Phantom or Daredevil.

Canwest Global publication, eh? I suspect they'll be recycling this list in all of their papers over the following six months.

I'm not sure if The Rocketeer belongs on a superhero list. Top Ten exploding zeppelins, maybe.

I think the list was only comic book adaptations [Rocketeer was a comic book?] so the Matrix and Darkman wouldn't make the cut.

Seriously, Hulk wasn't that bad to not make a list of comic book films. Hellboy should be on their too. and Batman 1966 should never ever be there. and X2 is better than X1 easily.

The guy who wrote that list always pisses me off cause his lists are always that stupid [buddy cop pairings] and he writes hporrid reviews [Day After Tommorow = Good, Kill Bill Vol. 2: Dreck?!]

I'd put Spider-man above Batman '89.
1.) Spider-Man 2
2.) Spider-Man
3.) Blade
4.) The Punisher (Tom Jane version)
5.) X-2
6.) Hulk
7.) Blade 2
8.) Batman Forever (call me crazy, but I liked that one)
9.) Batman Returns
10.) Daredevil (liked some parts)
Using the most liberal definition of superhero.

1. Robocop
2. The Matrix
3. Superman
4. Batman Returns
5. Superman II
6. Batman
7. Spiderman
8. X2
9. Unbreakable
10. Hellboy

Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins will most likely be joining this list in the next year.
