Spider-Man 2 - Page 3

Ok so what the fuck.

I have all these supposedly great moves and things, but I'm getting my ass handed to me over and over by street thugs. I can't disarm them, or toss them around, or do ANY of that shit since they seem to be able to block or dodge any web-based move I throw at them. Even physical attacks usually don't work, so the only way I'm able to kill anything is by knocking them up in the air with an uppercut...which gets old fast and doesnt keep people from shooting me.

Swinging around the city is great fun, but this fucking combat system is starting to get on my nerves.

Calm down there buddy. I've got two words for you, impact web (aka web ball). I don't think using the dodge is that effective against a lot of enemies, I just jump around and let off web balls to lock everybody down. Then I snatch one, take him up the street a little or on a roof top and beat his ass down or just beat em down in the air. Web combos also clear out crowds pretty good.

Yeah, I'm getting my ass kicked there. What's the best way to beat Mysterio at the Statue of Liberty?

Don't bother swinging from orb to orb. Drop down to the base of the statue and web one of the ten hovering platforms surrounding the island. The platforms will shoot skyward, and if you jump right when it reaches the top, you'll be flung into the sky, a good twenty feet above the spinning orbs. At that point just fall toward the nearest orb and punch it. Once the orbs are destroyed, web swing up to the top of the statue and beat the shit out of the brain before its force field returns.

Wow. Well it's not an upgrade, you start the game with this ability I do believe. Hold left trigger and hit Y(xbox), or whatever buttons for whatever system to sprint then shoot web. It's in the manual under impact webbing.

I don't know why, but that's the funniest sentence I've seen all day.

I know, but it's just one of those things you never expect to hear/see. And yes, Bruce Campbell does indeed command attention.
Rented and now I know I'll eventually have to buy it. It really is Grand Theft Spidey.

The web-slinging is kind of difficult, especially when my webs won't fire even though I'm pressing the 'R' button. It's also difficult to pull myself higher into the air. But I'm sure I'll get into the swing of it eventually (oh yes. I went there).

Oh, and more civilians have died by my ineffectual heroics than by the hands of most supervillains.

Well I havent found every single hint marker yet. I dont see what button it could be, though. Holding Y webs enemies up, tapping it disarms. Unless it's some kind of button combo..?

Hold sprint (the Left Trigger) and press Y (for web) simultaneously to get the impact web.

Rented this from Blockbuster for 3 days and had to return it today. I finished the "story" aspect of the game (the final fight with Octavius sucked simply due to the pushing of the panels and the ever-expanding orb of plasma shit that made me restart the stage 1000000 times) and I am thoroughly satisified with my experience at 50-something percent completed. I may rent it again in the near-future but can anyone tell me how I can get the final web-swing speed upgrade? I'm perpetually stuck at level 7 and I have a sinking feeling you get it after gaining 50,000 hero points.
I can't find the fucking Spidey Shop. Can anyone tell me where it is on the map? pleeeeaaaase?
So the "$" sign thingies are all shops?
The Arcade is right where they first start you when you load up a game. It's literally like two blocks away.

The Spidey shops are everywhere. Just look for a cash symbol on your map.

You can't get the last swing updates until you beat the final two challenges that come after defeating Doc Ock (get 50,000 points, twice).
Spidey Shops? Why does no one read the manual?

Impact web? No need to find a hint marker for it. Once again, it's in the manual.
I'm just about finished myself, and I must say, I'd offer this up as evidence IGN does not play through the entirety of games before reviewing them. This game has a great first impression. Swinging kicks ass, the missions are fun, but as the game wears on, the few mission types become tired. 9.0 / 10? No way. Fun game? Hell yeah.

I got mine from Gamefly, so no manual. They have print versions on the actual Gamefly website, but that's a pain in the ass...

A couple questions:

1. Do the different Spidey Shops matter, or do they all carry the same thing at any given time?

2. Is it really important that I be doing the races? I fucking hate those things, but I'll do it if it's the only way to gain access to some cool shit.

Thanks for the impact webbing help.

- Fate
1. The shops all have the same shit.

2. Unless you're trying to get 100% completion, then no. All you get from the races are hero points. Personally, I saved them for the end of the game; they're a lot easier once you've bumped your swing speed up to six or seven.
I think I burnt myself out on this yesterday. The satellite was out, so I spent a few hours(off and on) getting the late 30,000 of the 50,000 hero points. Haven't felt like playing it much at all today. I was hoping by now they'd have discovered some new codes or hidden stuff to make the side stuff more worthwhile, but looking less and less likely.

Hell, even being able to replay missions would be nice. Still a great game. Give me a day or so away from it and I'll be right back in there doing pizza missions and looking for tokens just for fun.

Anyway, I hope they get to work on a comic book based version of the game immediatley:
  • Every major villain. Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Sandman, Electro, Kingpin, Venom, Carnage, Mysterio, Rhino, Kraven, The Lizard, etc.
  • A subway and sewer system for Lizard missions
  • Interior locations on the upper levels of skyscrapers(Imagine a fight with the Kingpin in his office or chasing the Green Goblin through an office building)
  • Faster car chases. Not all of them have to be really fast, but it'd be cool if the chases were more frantic. Guess they'd have to expand the distance you're allowed to fall behind though.
  • Cameos from other characters(Fantastic Four, Avengers, Daredevil, Punisher). I'm sure they could base a great set of missions around Doctor Strange.
  • Different costumes. Imagine a level where you play a Peter Parker and have to use spider-sense to avoid being seen up close, or a quick change costume with street clothes and just the mask)
  • Weather. Just to see some cool visuals.
I definitely agree on the HUGE potential a non-movie sequel to this game. The Manhattan setting doesn't even have to change, save for the suggested underground stuff. The game definitely needs more more involved missions types, like maybe a few of the ? street missions will force you to fight some of the minor supervillains.

The replay value of Spiderman 2 isn't as bad as True Crime since fighting and swinging are fun, but the lack of other things besides those challenges is still kinda disappointing.
It's such crap that you don't get anything cool for scoring 50,000 points after beating Ock. Bullshit.

I've been connected to a guy who tested this game for activision and from what I hear he says they may have added somehting at the Bugle which made me think of those locked doors there.

But it may be nothing, I refuse to accept that they put nothing juicy in this game as a secret.

In the last game they let you play as Green Goblin, complete with new weapons and moveset. I have no doubt they did something equally cool for this game.

Isn't/Wasn't there talk of some "big secret" that hadnt been revealed yet?

It took like 4 hours for somebody to figure that out, this game is going on two weeks now, there's nothin'.

the tester said that there was no big secret

Started playing through this on the Xbox and the weekend, and I'm enjoying it, although I have a few complaints. The swinging system for me needs more work. It's fun, and great to be able to control it a bit more, but there's some times where it just seems really unresponsive. Couple this with getting stuck on things like street signs, and it just, well, it takes the fun out of swinging sometimes. The repetitiveness of the random street crime gets on my tits too. I've got to a point where I don't really care about foiling an armoured car robbery, or some girl having her balloon fly away.

Also (and this is a lame major geek nitpick), Mysterio's new look is lame. His head is no longer shaped like a fishbowl, so when Spidey calls him it, it makes no real sense! Also, they've tried to make the big M look cool, and that's one defining thing about the character: he is in no way cool. Also, the voice acting, especially from Tobey, sounds a bit flat and kinda dull. I don't think he's nailed being Spidey yet.

About 22%. And yeah, Mysterio at the Statue of Liberty is currently kicking my ass.
someone help me please! i have no idea what im supposed to do to quentin beck in the arena after i drag all the criminals into the holes, he explains it in the most vague way then he shoots you three times with a laser canon and its over, this is driving me insane, what do you do??
Run past all the dropping walls until you get to an L shaped platform. Hit the switch on it, and it'll raise and take you to a wall where you have to climb up to get the next one. Basically, you have to get all the switches whilst avoiding obstacles and the laser cannon.
That level reminds me of American Gladiators.

thank you so much man, i'll go and try this now.
There's a checkpoint about halfway through that second part, Speed, just keep at it, and stay behind the walls.

Mysterio on Liberty Island sucks balls. Haven't picked this up since my last frustrating attempt to destroy that stupid brain.
It's frustrating, but it's definitely doable. My big problem was actually GETTING to the island. It took me a while to figure out that I would need to do straight web-slinging with no jumping to get there.

Once I got to the orbs, it took a little while, but once you get on the elevator platforms, let it take you to the top, and then charge your jump to full power, you should be high enough that you can make yourself land on top of the orb, give it a few hits and then move on to the next one.
thanks so much guys! i just past it! that part was such an annoyance, it was pretty easy, once i understood what i was supposed to be doing!

you know ive bought 3 games in the past week, 7 games in the past month and a half that im trying to finish at the same time? its crazy shit i tells ya, now im focussing on full spectrum warrior, spider-man 2, and manhunt. i need to get back to ninja gaiden too. stressful times haha.
If you think Mysterio is a pain you'd probably hate Ock...

not me though, I beat Shocker, Rhino, Calypso, and Doc Ock in the Boss Fight section of shockers arena.

Not to mention I beat all four at once, cripes it was hard.
I was trying to complete everything to see if there was some big unlockable if you gat 100% but I've scoured the gamefaqs boards and it turns out there's nothing after you get 100%. Lame.
So could someone detail to me how one would go about getting a thug to the top of the Empire State Building to piledrive him off? Been trying that one, and since I'm altogether evil, have been obsessed with throwing thugs off the tallest buildings i can find. However, I have not been able to figure out how to reach the heights of the ESB with a villain.
...Ahem...Bump...
How do you piledrive them? I jumped off the ESB with a thug, and we both died. Do you have to drop them at the last second and swing away? Or is there some button to hit?
you jump and then hit x multiple times to make it a spinning piledriver...but you must first have purchased the grapple upgrade. my question still remains...how the hell do you get a thug up there?
Quote:

Just swing around the building until you get to the top. While you swing, hold the X button until you get to the top of your swing, then let go. That helps you jump higher. It's really easy.
So, is there anyway of getting to the Statue of Liberty previous to the Mysterio fight? I really wanna get out there, damnit.
Get to the shore near the Statue of Liberty and go jump on the building closetest to the shore. Look around in the sky and you'll see two helicopters flying around the Statue of Liberty area. One of those helicopters comes to shore near a building. Follow it and web sling onto the helicopter. This helicopter only takes you half-way though, but the other helicopter flies by. You just have to web-sling onto it. Then hang on and it'll take you to Ellis Island, where you take another helicopter to Liberty Island.

Honestly, it's not worth the effort. There's nothing over there but a single secret token at the statue base.
only now did I get the pile driver upgrade. damn. it's kind of, in a retarded way, fun.

(also thanks for that tip CB)
Let me clarify here...I want to know how one would grapple a thug and get to the top of the empire state building...I don't think you can websling while holding a thug. I am wanting to piledrive said thug off of the top of the building. If I'm wrong and you can websling while holding a thug, than disregard this.
Wow. People are still unable to piledrive off the ESB? Zombie, you could have just turned on your system and tried it in the time that it took you to go online and ask about it.

On a side note, I've tried fighting Calypso straight up, just to see how difficult it would be to beat her that way, and it is freaking hard because it's so time consuming and annoying.

Look...I was at work every time I asked...I admit I never thought to try it. I just assumed you couldn't because of the way he actually holds the thugs. Doesn't look conducive to swinging. Damn, sorry to offend you with my lack of knowledge on the subject. I did say that if I was wrong to disregard the question. I was simply trying to get a straight answer...but you're right, if I had just played whenever I got home, I would have found out on my own, except I like to do other things with my free time, and just thought I would ask while I was at work and near a comp. That's right...I don't have a computer at home. I work in a computer lab all day, so i don't feel I need one at home yet.

I still can't do the Empire Driver, if that makes you feel any better.
