Alternate Casting

We've all seen performances in films that would be better served by other actors. It's something we're reminded of whenever we hear those 'almost cast' rumours (like the scary one about Richard Gere turning down Die Hard, phew!) Anyway, here are some fantasy castings (some might not have been better, but would have been interesting):

Sly Stallone or Val Kilmer as Butch in Pulp Fiction
Daniel Day Lewis as Louis in Interview with the Vampire
Colin Farrell as Amsterdam in Gangs of New York
Christopher Walken or Hugh Jackman as Billy in Chicago
Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt as the two leads in Point Break (in fact, imagine Johnny Depp in any Keanu Reeves role!)
Catherine Zeta Jones as Tess in Oceans 11
Bruce Willis as Bud White in L.A. Confidential
Eminem as Snoop in Out of Sight

What do we think?

Well, for the most part... those ideas suck, in my opinion. But the Depp in any Keanu role is pretty dead on, really. Except little buddha and johnny mnemonic. As for the Matrix, wow.... what if that was Johnny Depp? weird. Walken in Chicago would have been amazing.

some of my own...
Keith David as Det. Harris in Training Day.
He could've carried the movie. I have faith in him.

Dustin Hoffman as Michael in The Godfather Trilogy.
And to think it almost happened!

Gabriel Byrne as Cpt. Barbosa in Pirates of the Caribbean.
No complaints for G. Rush, but what if?

Michael Corleone is such a good role that any of the then-mooted actors for the part (Redford, Beatty, Hoffman) would have done it justice (Robert Redford excepted, too blonde to be a Sicilian!)

Again, Barbosa is a great part, but my dream choice would be another Dublin native; Brendan Gleason.

Keith David in Training Day is a nice choice, underrated actor. Sam jackson could have done that too. I liked that Washington was cast against type tho.

Well, I'm going with Malcom McDowell instead of that Eastern European dude in "Eurotrip" as Igor Karakoff in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", dammit.

NO.

Walken as Billy Flynn would've owned, though.

You know, when James Cameron was filming his last film Titanic ten years ago, there were rumors that he would be doing Spiderman. I thought while he was filming Titanic, he was really secretly filming Spiderman with:

Leo as Peter Parker

Kate Winslet as Mary Jane

Bill Paxton as The Green Goblin

It could have worked. Then. Not now of course. Back then, nobody hated Leo, and he was a decent actor.

There were some interesting casting choices for two of my favorite movies-
Viggo Mortensen and Ewan McGregor were both considered for Van Helsing. If Ewan did get that part, it would've been too "Moulin Rouge!" for me....

Speaking of that, Zooey Deuschanel was going to be Satine in that movie, but they thought she was too young at the time for that part. AND Hugh Jackman was considered for Christian. Whoa...

Ewan would never have done that movie, though. It's the type of flick he hates.

Zooey Deschanel is way hot, too...

Thankfully, the director thought that since Viggo and Ewan already did their big trilogies, he'd go with a new actor. Of course, Hugh also has more "X-Men" movies, so as Empire Magazine put it, it's his "Han Solo/Indiana Jones" movies.

Cynthia Rothrock as The Bride. You think I'm joking? I'm deadly fucking serious.

I'm gonna say this until I die...

Angela Bassett as Storm in XMen

I second that. Why oh why did she choose "Supernova" over that?!

I don't usually go in for fantasty re-casting, but Sean Bean would have been a much better choice for Sirius in Harry Potter. Gary Oldman is an amazing actor, but Bean would have owned that role. He's who I imagined when reading the character on the page.
