Danzig gets his ass handed to him

You know... I almost posted this yesterday afternoon. One of the guys I work with is a good friend of the gentleman who clocked Danzig.

Local show. Danzig bumps the local group by running long. Local band calls him out. He tries to be a big shot. Gets his ass handed to him.

As I stated in the other Misfits post, I knew Jerry Only, and I can agree that Danzig did not do EVERYTHING in the Misfits...

One example of how he tried to wrestle control away is:

-when Caroline records put out the Misfits "compilation" CDs a few years ago, Danzig totally re recorded Only's bass lines to take any royalty or creative control away for the future (and I mean just over dubbed the SAME bass lines into the song, not write new ones)


Danzig, a few years back got into a fight with Vivian Campbell from Def Leppard, and while I rooted for Danzig then, this video is really funny.

Hopefully it puts Danzig (who I am a fan of) in his place.

Probably not, since he is the "Pint Sized Powerhouse" and suffers from small man syndrome.

What were they talking about, though? It's really hard to understand and like to know what earned him that knuckle sandwhich.

It's pretty much common knowledge that Glenn Danzig is totally full of himself but to be fair pretty much everyone in the entertainment business is. It's a shame that he's a prick but that never has and never will stop me from enjoying the hell out of the music he makes. So far I've loved everything he's been involved with, from the Misfits to Samhain to Danzig to Black Aria. I don't really know who "created" the Misfits but I'm rather certain Danzig wrote all or at least most of the lyrics to their songs because they are pretty consistant in tone and themes to what he later did with Samhain and Danzig.

Has anyone seen his acting role in PROPHECY II? I still haven't rented that POS even though Danzig + The Walken sound like an interesting combination. There's also this legend that he was considered for the role of Wolverine in the X-MEN movies but turned it down because it would have interfered with going on tour or some such crap. Personally I highly doubt the validity of this story. He may have gone and auditioned for the part but I bet they turned him down and he just made up the rest. But just try and imagine how his already enormous ego would have gone into overdrive after having his own Hollywood franchise ...

Seriously. That was what it was about.

It's not worth the trouble of a rental (for that reason).

Danzig is in it for, no shit, like 2 minutes, and isn't even in a scene with Walken.

Plus, Danzig has "evil Angel" make up on, and you can't even make out his face.

Then he's killed off after having one line.

While I'm not one to explicitly claim that Danzig is the sole reason for the Misfits' success, I can categorically state that he was a major part of the only incarnation of the group that I ever really cared about. And though I'm glad Jerry Only was able to get the profits and such that were due him, I blanched whenever I heard the Graves-era group referred to as the Misfits. Why couldn't Only simply move on and create a new band with a new name? Was it THAT important for them to be called the Misfits? The answer -- of course it was, since the name alone boosted sales. I mean, Jerry and Doyle certainlyweren't gonna win the kids over with Kryst the Conqueror.

In any case, yeah, Danzig's a prick, but that's been the case ever since the Misfits were formed.

By the way, last I heard (earlier this year) Only and Danzig were in talks to reform the group and tour with the original lineup.

Dunno about the parties but I'm not a fan of the Verotic stuff. I dig the occasional Simon Bisley cover artwork but the actual comic art is mostly terrible. Plus Danzig bought the US rights to Go Nagai's DEVILMAN manga ages ago and only published the first few chapters of it - in a ridiculous colorized version. He also acquired the rights to Nagai's spin-off 17 volume (3800 pages) DEVILMAN LADY manga and so far hasn't done shit with it. Which is a damn shame because both are awesome and would deserve to get some exposure in the US. Of course I have this conspiracy theory that he only bought the rights so nobody can see that his silly SATANIKA comixxx are total fan-fiction quality rip-offs of Nagai's stories and art.

Because Danzig wrote all the Misfits songs. I'm not sure about the music but the lyrics are all his.

I think it`s funny when jerry only supporters start making claims jerry had some hand in creating the misfits they have to mention danzig being egotistical, an asshole or linking video clips of danzig fighting , like that`s proof jerry wrote a song. What i do find laughable is the fact jerry only created a christian band out of spite for samhain, bashed the misfits for being evil, then tried to jump back on the misfits brand name bandwagon to turn a profit, regardless of what he said a few years prior.

I don't support one over the other necessarily. I just find it funny that Danzig thinks he's such a big shot that he can push around anyone he feels like. I think it's funny when anyone tries to throw themselves around because of who they think they are and gets checked.

Well if it wasn`t for danzig, the misfits would have ceased to exist ,not to mention countless other bands that are famous now that were influenced by the Misfits, Danzig and Samhain . It`s pretty hard to deny Glenn`s influence on music today . I can definately see where he might would get the idea that he`s some kind of "big shot" , but i don`t see what you call "getting checked" makes anything he`s done less true?

Are you reading these posts or just skimming them? Nowhere did I say his 'getting checked' for being an asshole lessens any of his musical contributions. I don't care whether you're a musical icon or not. If you're an ass you get checked when there is justice in the world.


BTW, to clarify, I am referring to the incident that started this thread. Not any subsequent discussions of who owns what rights to which songs during whichever incarnation of whom.

Danzig did write all, if not 98% of the Misfits. In fact, you can see in the Walk Among Us insert, "All songs written by Glen Danzig". In fact, from what I've read, Jerry was extremely bored with the band. When Glen wasn't showing Doyle how to play the songs he (Glen) wrote, Jerry and Doyle wouldn't even tune their guitars during a live show. Glen did all the artwork, promo, etc. According to Glen, Doyle and Jerry's folks were rich, so they weren't into the music half as bad as he was.

As for the "Wolverine rumor" goes, I remember vividly that he went down to FOX and talked to the producers about doing it, but he learned quickly he wasn't going to be able to meet the shooting schedule, since he was going to do the Satan's Child Tour at the time of the X-Men shoot. Words from his mouth, not mine.

As for the video clip, I've heard the same. Danzig played, his crew started to take the shit down, and Northside King singer got pissed and went to Danzig with it. Danzig wasn't in control of that, but the singer wouldn't let off. Danzig shoves him, Danzig eats cement. Pretty funny clip, though I think all of us would've done the same thing Danzig did, if we had some dude yelling in our faces. He may have deserved to get clocked, but I don't agree it was over this.

Danzig has worked in the music industry for a long time now, he has had his successes, he now owns his own comic publishing house and record label and makes his music on his own terms. Good for him. There's no denying that he has been influential. But none of the above gives him any right to behave like a dick and it's understandable that there's a backlash when videotaped proof of his asshole antics become public.

I love all incarnations of the Misfits...

But blame lies in all corners...

A friend of mine is good friends with Jerry and Von Frank...And everytime they came through town (as well as NYC) we got on the bus and backstage and hung out.

Only can be and pretty much IS an asshole and very difficult to work with. He became the control freak he now is AFTER Glen tried to screw him out of any if not all rights to the Misfits (after all of that Caroline stuff happened, as well as a huge garage load of merch that got int he middle of a debate)

He (only)is pretty much a HUGE reason that CHUD and Graves bailed out as well. They could not take his ego and control freak behavior.

Then add to that Von Frank bailing on his family AND his band to go and be with a wrestling babe who was stripping to support them at the time..

The once great band that was the Misfits is now only a memory. I will still go and see the Only/Dez/Ramone version when they come around as nothing beats being in the middle of a pit when "Mommy, can I go out and Kill tonight?" comes on...

But to say that Danzig is an asshole- You would be right-
To say that Only is an asshole-You would be right.


Anyone who was ever in a band knows that there are many different sides of the truth and most of the real facts are only kept WITHIN the band...So we will prob never know...

Well i`ll be the first to admit if it had been jerry only there getting his arse handed to him instead of danzig, it`d definately been the other way around, jerry`d have sent that guy home packin easily, jerry used to be a wrassler, wrassler`s can take a lickin and keep on arse handlin', so i`ve heard anyhow.
