Movie Studio Draft--The Properties-Discussion Thread

Thread Starter
This the Movie Studio Draft Properties Thread Discussion Thread

I will be announcing the new drafting order in this thread after everyone who is still involved posts in this thread.

Rules for the Properties Draft

1. We are all drafting Properties for anything that has previously been released in any medium. Movies, Video Games, Songs, Theatre, Books, Comic Book strips, etc.

2. We are able to draft entire Series in lieu of drafting each individual release from said medium. Examples are: The Star Wars Universe, Anne Rice's 'Vampire" novels, Pink Floyd's The Wall, The Crucible, Heathcliff. If it is the continuation of a story, you can draft it all.

3. In the Properties draft, you may continue to draft Actors/Directors if you wish. You may draft 3 Actors/Directors instead of drafting properties.

4. The Properties Draft shall go 10 Rounds. If at any time you are done drafting, Just state as much in the Draft Thread after your final pick. I will remove you from the drafting threads that remain. If you wish to return to the draft, or decide you have something else to draft, feel free to make up your picks at any time.

5. There will be a new draft order for the Properties draft. The draft will be randomized, as the first draft was.

6. Feel free to draft Writers, Cinematographers, Composers/Musicians. etc. Anyone that you can add the name to your project that will add something to your Project that you want to have, to market it more.

7. Each round you may draft 1 Project OR 3 Actors/Directors/Composers/Writers/ETC.
Any Questions or changes anyone has, please feel free to bring them up.
I added the option to draft Actors/Directors if anyone decides they need more.

If any Studios do not continue I would look at leaving their actors/directors inactive...unless it is Countess Anna, because she has someone I still need.

Anything anyone else would like to add?

I am considering a re-cast, but I need the actor for an F/X movie. So 2 seasons.

I just thought of this. If we are still doing the seasons, then maybe you and I can still work out a negotiation for You Know Who. I need her for a non-FX movie, so I can use her almost immediately. Ponder that, if you will.

2nd and 3rd seasons are the season I am looking for her.

Well, Proyas, he's going to be in a 2-season film with my company, so you can have him for my remainder. Her, however, is just going to be for one season.

Okay, then I'll plan on her film being released first, and then we'll see what we can do.

For the most part, the actors draft is over now. I don't think it would hurt anyone if you used their actual name. Reading the last few posts made my head hurt.
If anyone else drops out, I have a friend who was interested in playing if we had another draft. I might be able to get him to take over a studio.

Damn! I kinda deciced over the weekend that I was going to take Star Wars just for the hell of it, but I didn't want to take it on the first pick and risk losing 100 Bullets. Oh well. Not like I had any solid plans for it anyway. Maybe in season 2.

Good first round choices all the way around, so far. I really like the casting for Dark Knight Returns.
I really only took Star Wars because I could. All the other properties I want aren't exactly big names so they're unlikely to go. I can sort out a director, cast and a bit of plot and it gives me something to do with Will Smith.

How about Will Smith vs Jar Jar in a Star Trek style death match?

sorry...I was watching Cable Guy over the weekend...

Okay, a couple of questions as I re-think my strategery:

1. How are the seasons being ordered: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, or some variation on that?

2. Also, are we getting to start out with a few projects already completed for Spring release or what?

That is just what I used as an example as to what I was thinking. I am not going to worry about release seasons, but my thinking has me beginning production at 0 (Spring if you will) and taking all of that Season to release the project. (so a Project that takes 1 Season is released at the end of Spring). So whatever project you finish with in Season 4 releases at the end.
So, like, each season is divided into quarters?
I'm not sure if I'm understanding completely how we're doing the seasons either. Are we supposed to be making up all four seasons to post now or are we figuring out one season now, taking a break, then coming back with our next season and so on? We talked about this being an ongoing thing at one time. Are we still doing that?

Also, my friend emailed me and said he was going to register and take over one of the abandoned studios. Hopefully he'll be posting soon to say which one.

Title = The Dark Knight Returns
Director - Paul Verhoeven
Actors = Bruce Willis (Batman/Bruce Wayne)
Alexis Bledel (Carrie Kelly/Robin V)
Willem Dafoe (The Joker)
Dennis Hopper (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow)
Brendan Fraser (Clark Kent/Superman)
Jodie Foster (Commissioner Ellen Yindel)
Stacy Keach (Fmr Commissioner Jim Gordon)
Mike Judge (Dr Bartholemew Wolper)
Kyle Gass (Bob)
Bruce Willis as Bruce Wayne...interesting.

As for the Seasons, my plan is just to post it all now. It would be interesting to keep this going, but...I have no clue how to keep it going. Eventually we are going to need new talent, new studios, etc.

I think it is going to take someone who is alot more creative than me to give the "after draft" life of this going. Perhaps it is good to just go through the 1 Year (4 Seasons) and see where we go from there, but I am not sure how to "judge" the Seasons, so it is more or less just an expression of creativity.

if anyone has any ideas on this, I am stumped and really open to suggestions.
I'm not sure how we'd really judge anything either. Best we can do is is make up a list of categories to vote on ranging from Academy Award type nominations to ones that deal with who was the most creative and which films we feel would make the most money. We vote on them, list the awards and then maybe start over from scratch. This is fun to me. I love the creative aspect of this, I love seeing what other people are coming up with and I love drafting. I'll keep playing as long as other people want to do it. It's a lot of fun for something that takes only a small amout of time to do.

Thanks. If there's one thing that I hate...it has to be "movie stars". "Movie Stars" get in the way of the story, and I'd rather have the story.
Great casting for Preacher. Pitch perfect for a lot of the roles. Big props for Tim Olyphant. That's perfect casting that I wouldn't have even thought of.

..........that being said.........a major BOOOOOOO!! to you for making a Preacher movie in the first place. No way in hell you could ever get a faithful Preacher movie to the screen. Between the obvious censorship and the religious nuts coming out of the woodwork, you'd get the project torn to shreds or straight to DVD. Then again, it's your studio in this scenario and if you are willing to take a loss and have it on 10 screens in order to film a faithful representation, kudos to you. Just a personal feeling. It's just about my favorite book, comic or otherwise, and I hope I never see it attempted.

Still, excellent casting.

Now let's see if we can all combine to get every major DC/Vertigo book made into a film.

as for my projects go, I've decided to film Fables and it's sequel in this go round. Seems goofy to do, but this may be our only draft and I want to do the first two trades as films. No way I'm passing up Hope Davis as Goldilocks and Ralph Fiennes as the voice of Shere Khan.

Sacrilicious-umm...they are attempting to adapt Preacher. In my quest to find quotes for all of my fucking actors/directors, I found that James Marsden(Cyclops from X-Men, X2) has been cast for the main role (sorry never read Preacher, although I have been meaning to) in a movie based on the books.

IMDB

Anna-yep, we are going 10 rounds, but I am hesitant to do all of the work for all 10 rounds as people may be added/subtracted from the draft, so I am posting 2 rounds at a time in the Draft Discussion list.

In hindsight, if another draft ever occurs, I think letting the projects be up for grabs from the beginning along with actors/directors would be the way to go...man that would be a jumbled mess at the begining.

heh...I like a certain amount of chaos.

You would have to let us keep at least half of the people we previously got. Especially if we are considering sequels to our projects.

it is more of a hindsight being 20/20 comment really. I was just thinking that it would have been rather interesting to have the draft begin that way.

If someone needs a certain actor for a certain project...which do they choose.

I am not actually proposing that change.
Hey, those are some pretty dead-on choices for Fables. My only complaint is that I think you cast Bluebeard and Weyland a little too young, and I would've switched the casting for Cinderella and Beauty around, but again, a couple of movies I'd plop down ten bucks to see.

Question about cameos: I know that any number of actors can do any number of cameos, so does that mean that we can use actors that other players have drafted?
