UK Amazon DotD DVD Selection

Hey everyone

I'm on amazon.co.uk (as I live in the UK y'see) and I would like to know which DotD DVD should I buy? As much as I would like to buy the NSTC version I can't, so can you tell me which one is better?
Dawn of the Dead -- Uncut or
Dawn of the Dead (Collector's Edition) (1980)

Thanks

I'm sure the ultra-mega-final DAWN BOX SET will eventually get a UK release as well. Just wait a little.

But that won't have the exclusive UK Tom Savini commentary that the BMG disc has. I'm assuming the "Uncut" one is the same, although Tom on the commentary mentions that the film is cut. I dunno, but I'd assume it would still have it. Either that or grab the original BMG release from the used sellers. It's cut, but it's a fine commentary and would supplement the eventual huge AB release nicely.

Waiting hurts man!!!!

I have always wondered about the Mega-More-Than-3-Discs set and I want it so bad but as with latest NSTC Day of the Dead 2 Disc Set (yeah I'm a fan of it, I like it ok) that even hasn't been released over here and it came out in 2003 I think. It seems the UK gets left behind so bad and I would buy a NSTC compatible DVD player and TV if I could, but I can't sadly.

Do you have any idea how long I have to wait for the "good stuff" to hit the UK shores? I've been waiting a like year just for the Day of the Dead set.

Actually, Anchor Bay don't own the rights over here, so it won't be available in the UK for a good few years. It's the same reason why we don't have the Day special edition, 'cos Arrow have the rights.

Lousy legal bastards. God bless multi-region.

According to the BBFC website all UK versions of DAWN that were released before April 2003 (which was when BMG resubmitted it and got it past them fully uncut) were trimmed by about 15 seconds of gory footage.

DAY and NIGHT were always uncut in the UK.

The BMG disc in question is cut by 6 seconds. This includes the exploding head in the housing project at the beginning, one of the bites to the woman in the same sequence and the zombies kids getting shot is trimmed down. I have this version and I'm intriuged by how they explain Savini's comments on the uncut version, but nyeh.

Actually, the initial release of Day of the Dead was quite heavily cut. I'm assuming this was pre-cut by the distributor (1985 was just after the big "Video Nasties" brou-haha and the passing of the Video Recordings Act) which is why the BBFC don't list it as being cut. It's only since recent re-release by 4Front that it was uncut on VHS. Even the old UK DVD was cut (and pan and scan!!) The newer widescreen Arrow DVD is uncut.

I hate censorship.

So BMG resubmitted the film, had all previous censorship cuts waived and then released a cut version anyway?!? Or is the BMG disc we're talking about here from before April 2003? Jeez, I'm glad I'm region free and don't have to put with bullshit fascist censorship.

Okay, many apologies, should've clarified...

I was referring to this BMG DVD, which I own (first DVD I bought back in 1999, in fact) and is cut by 6 seconds.

This is the new BMG disc, released earlier this year (or late yast year, I don't remember) and is, as you can see, fully uncut.

Now THIS Day of the Dead DVD is cut and in full screen.

But this one is uncut and widescreen with a few extras. Nothing amazing, we're not talking Divimax edition, but better than the previous edition by miles.

The Anchor Bay Divimax will not see the light of UK shores until the rights to these become available again, which I think is 2006ish.

I'll be buying the AB versions as soon as I have enough phat cash to do so.

So must I get the BMG Uncut version instead of the Dawn of the Dead version with the funky colour cover? Cause well 1) I like the funky cover for some reason and 2) It says it is 128mins long. I don't know how long the BMG Uncut version is so I'm not sure which one buy.

As for Day, thanks for all the info I know which one I'm gonna get for sure!!!!
