New THE THING DVD artworks sucks ass

The DVD itself will no doubt be a improvement over the old disc but I much preferred the artwork on that old cover.
I don't see why they gotta fuck with it. The original teaser poster art would have sufficed. This...this is just crap.
It's not completely terrible, hardly one of the worst cover's I've ever seen, although it holds nothing to original poster DVD artwork.
You could always just slip the shitty cover art out of the Amaray case, then slip the old cover art in.

Or you could just download a bmp of the older cover art. Anyway it goes, the new cover art is still asstastic.

I don't know, maybe it's just me...but I kinda like it. Do I lose my horror street cred now?

I guess they needed new artwork to differentiate from the other, older DVD. It happens all the time. Studios never use the same artwork when they double-dip us.

But while I kind of understand that they had to find something new they could have easily used some of the kick ass artwork for the film from around the globe instead of going for this Photoshop-For-Beginners bullshit. It makes this horror classic look like a cheap DTV piece of forgettable shit. For shame.

To me, it just looks like art for a follow-up to the video game.
the cover for the video game is MUCH better though

Yeah. 'Cause that's possible.

uk cover art
Heh, that is the video game art, isn't it?

I don't know if it's video game artwork but they sure used it for the UK DVD:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...015028-1532602

Problem is that this DVD came out in 2003 and doesn't have the new transfer or the new extras that will be on the US re-issue with the asstacular cover.

That's like saying who cares how a girl looks as long as her pussy feels nice when you fuck her.

Um, no. Not even close to the same. More apropos would be to say you don't care that your fine ass girlfriend has bad fashion sense.

That said, I agree with Butane, it's not bad. Besides, I think they should try and make a double dip look as different as it can from the original cover art, so no one gets screwed.
Looks like something a DTV would get as cover art. Pretty bad. I'm still picking it up though if only for the animorphic. If I didn't have a widescreen TV I'd skip it.
Looks like shit. I'm perfectly satisfied with my current disc, and the only way I was going to be picking this up was if the packaging was really slick.

Guess they lost my sale.

That new pic kinda looks like someone dropped my webcam into the toilet last night...

That new covers screams interplanetary bukkake

Why the hell does Amazon have a photoshopped game cover as the DVD? I have the UK DVD and it's got this cover. Wierd.

I also own the game, and this cover is exactly the same except 'John Carpenter's' has been added before the title, and the certificate has been changed from a 15 (the game) to an 18 (the movie).
i think they only changed the uk dvd covers cos the game was selling pretty well and they expected the people who bought the game to but the dvd as they would recognise it with the same cover..strange none the less

well, the version of the DVD with the game cover actually states on the back that it's an anamorphic widescreen transfer...
Well, other than that startling new cover art, how else is this DVD gonnabe any different than the Collector's Edition DVD I've got sitting not a foot away from me?
What are the chances they could change their minds before street date? I, too, prefer the other cover art. I'm sure I've seen re-releases of films that had the same cover art as the original release but had a different colored border or something.

Don't you remember the original tagline:

The Thing: Taste One Shockingly Refreshing Horror Movie!

I'm getting this DVD, but the cover does suck. It looks like the cover for a Nu-Image movie about Alligators underneath the Antarctic. I like Anderson's idea. I'll just download the old cover.

Now...does anybody have a good site where I can do that?

Amen. I kinda like it.

The video game art one is a straight cheap rerelease of the original one with the poster art. It's not anamorphic, because I thought it was when I saw it in the store, but it isn't. It's a straight repack.
I want a holographic DVD cover like Jack Frost, that'd be awesome.
That is just awful.
It doesn't convey the feel of the movie, for one thing. It looks like ass, for another. Bland, bland ass.
I dig good DVD covers. Much like CD/vinyl album covers, a good DVD cover truly enhances a movie.
The Cover looks pretty shitty... and I don't see any difference from the other Collector Edition!

Why would I buy this exactly?
I'd rather have this one.

Does it really matter that much? You only ever see the spine of the DVD case most of the time. Unles you got a fancy DVD holder or have enough space to display your collection like in a movie store.

Wow I liked the original but this new one is craptacular.
