Milwaukee exorcism kills boy

Associated Press (Milwaukee) - A Milwaukee minister faces up to five years in prison for causing the death of an autistic boy who died in what prosecutors called an exorcism. Witnesses say Ray Hemphill laid on the eight-year-old boy's chest for at least an hour, while trying to release "demons." A prosecutor says the child struggled for his life. Terrance Cottrell died in August at Faith Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith, a storefront. The medical examiner ruled the boy suffocated. Hemphill's attorney says his client was only trying to help the boy.

The "preacher" performing the "exorcism" wasn't even officially ordained (as much as that means anyway) the asshole was a janitor, seriously.
I've been following this case off and on on Court TV; fucking creep should have the book thrown at him, along w/ the kid's idiot mother.
To be fair, the kid was doped up on meds at the time as well, but that's still no excuse for this kind of medieval idiocy.

That's so fucking sad. Whenever I read something like this I think maybe it's about time for a nuclear holocaust or something like that. Fuck humanity!

Also, while this psychotic quack may not have been an "official" priest, exorcisms are still acknowledged by the Catholic Church and are indeed still performed in the Vatican as well as other places. The people who have to suffer through exorcisms are usually simply mentally ill or have Down's Syndrome. Exorcisms are also still regularily performed on homosexuals because humping someone of the same sex is obviously a sign of demon possession.

You have to go through Hell and high water to get a sanctioned exorcism performed in the Catholic Church. Further, their Rites of Exorcism do not involve physically affecting the "afflicted," but rather chanting a lot of prayers and that sort of thing.

This is the truth folks.

I worked as a counselor for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled for four years and I saw a couple of attempted makeshift exorcisms (one complete with a counselor speaking in "tongues") and I was part of quite a few heated debates over the possibility of demon possession causing violent dementia. I should add that neither of the "exorcists" were ordained although one of them claimed to be. I'm as tolerant as can be about other people's beliefs, but some of this stuff is just ridiculous.
