Manchurian Candidate

I know, it's not quite a horror film, but there is an excellent disturbing dream sequence and enough suspense to bring it up, esp since the remake is coming out very soon ....

As a matter of fact, I wasn't even aware of a remake until about 10 minutes ago .... Has anyone heard anything about this reamke ???

What do you think of the original ??? ... It's a bonafide classic in my book, and unlike some of the other films of that time, MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE deserves the all the praise heaped on it ...

I put it right next to the original CAPE FEAR and NIGHT OF THE HUNTER in terms of great suspenseful b/w filmmaking ....

Not sure who's directing it but it stars Denzel Washington [in the Sinatra role]. Also, it's set after the Gulf War. Thats all I know...

Jonathan Demme (who did Silence of the Lambs) directs. According to these reviews it ... isn't very good:

I thought it was a very intriguing movie, and certainly one everyone should see at least once.

(Possible spoilers) It would have been nice if the director had Sinatra's character exercise a little more common sense in the finale (other than sending the candidate off on his own to the convention), and of course post-hypnotic suggestion of that level was pretty much dismissed decades go.
