CUT and RUN

Just watched this film again via the nice uncut Anchor Bay DVD and realized once more that it is just fucking awesome. There is some GREAT and wonderfully squishy gore in it, my favourite being of course the guy getting ripped apart by that jungle trap, even though they obviously took it from a worn out VHS source. Then you have Valentina Forte who is just on fire and would be even hotter if DeOdato wouldn't gloat over banging her back in the day in his annoyingly self-congratualtory video introduction to the film. And to top things off you get Richard Lynch doing his very best Marlon Brando in APOCALYPSE NOW impression. Pretty decent production values too for what is essentially a sleazy jungle exploitation flick. On the downside you get Karen Black being her trailer trash self in a few scenes but I guess they threw her disgusting carcass in for those who were already to desensitized to be affected by the gore. And it worked.

I agree, I really love this movie. Can't go wrong with Richard Lynch and Michael Berryman.

Awesome, wacky movie!

A nifty decapitation, and the scariest sight: Willie Aames in a Mickey Mouse shirt!

Yikes!!!

I thought this was a HUGE letdown.

This was a far cry from the heights of "Jungle/Cannibal Holocaust" and even "House on the Edge..".

It's just like what it was in the UK..a direct to video, schlocky, amatuer night effort, with WAY too much tacky American influence.

**SPOILERS***

Richard Lynch was nothing more but a cut rate Kurtz rip-off (and he had almost no screen time before going out in an amazingly dull way in the 'was that it??" finale).

Berryman was ok, but his final demise (covered in what looked like whipped cream) was dreadful.
Only Steiner was any good.

The action was stodgy, amateur and basically boring.

The gore was also 5th rate.
The assualt on the 2 native women was let down by the dreadful looking legs and arms that were stuck with pointy sticks..they were not even the same colour as the women!

No quick cuts were used to hide the low budget effects, the camera simply stayed there and showed all the DREADFUL make-up work in all it's appalling glory.
Look how many years had passed since the SUPERB work in "Jungle Holocaust"?!
No excuse for such shoddy work, not in an Italian gore sequence.

The decapitation was splattery, but exactly how long was the blokes neck!?

The Steiner death was a great idea..but it's execution was nowhere near bloody enough. In fact there was no blood when he split apart...took away the realism. And the print source on that sequence was dreadfully bad as well.

If you want to see Ruggero trying to be American to a more entertaining effect see "The Barbarians" (also with Lynch, here used to better effect) or even the schlocky Slasher wannabe "Body Count".

Sure they are about a million miles away from his great early works, but at least it's not turgid and inept like "Cut & Run".
