What are you reading right now? - Page 2

The thing that freaks me out about Chrichton novels is that they could easily become reality. If nanotechnology has really advanced as far as it is in this book, and I'm sure it has, that's some scary ass shit.

Nah, he made the cloning of dinosaurs sound credible in DINO PARK and I don't see that happening any time soon. Heck, they cannot even close friggin mammoths and they have pristine, 100 per cent preserved, frozen ones (including the contents of their hairy nutsacks) at hand. The thing Crichton usually does is he researches the shit out of his subject matter and then cleverly mixes his fact with fictional parts and exaggerations until nobody but those with intimate knowledge of the subject are able to tell which is which.

NO.

Sorry. But. Just. NO.

Very true Wetbones he does mix fact with fiction so well you cannot tell where the line is crossed but there are things going on out there that we, the public, don't have a friggin clue about. I've heard rumours that at the particle accelerator near me they have actually created a black hole. Talk about a cool weapon to use in a war. I do believe Prey is not just a book but also a warning. Nano-technology is the next biggest thing and who knows how far they've come already. As for cloning dinosaurs I don't know about all that but I think if it isn't possible now it will be someday.

When I get done reading Prey I'm going to hit up the few books on quantum physics I have. Do you believe in multiple dimensions? They have basically scientifically proven they are a reality. Ghosts, UFO's. Multidimensional creatures? Yes, I believe they are.

Yo, FT. Which books are you reading? I'm a nut on the topic. Multiple dimensional theory fascinates me. I'd be interested to see what you've read so we could discuss.

Quantum Reality: Beyond the New Physics

The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality

Good stuff!

The two books that I'm going to jump into are

Quantum: A guide for the perplexed by Jim Al-Khalili
Parallel Universes: The search for other worlds by Fred Alan Wolf

Thanks, FT! I added those to my list.

Once I read these puppies let the quantum physics discussion on the CC begin!

Wilderness Survival by Gregory Davenport. When the zombie/vampire/nuclear/supervirus apocalypse comes, I'll be ready.

Maybe you should read some of his hardcore independent stuff like TERATOLOGIST or GOON.
Have either of you read his book "Header"? Complete trash.

The last horror novel I read was "The Rising." I loved it and await the sequel and the film.

My current read is "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.

Sometimes the motivational stuff is necessary.

There's gonna be a sequel to The Rising? Damn, that's good news.

I'm re-reading 'River', the Green River serial killer novel from the late, great Rod Thorp. Highly recommended as an insightful, realistic, chilling read. Thorp also wrote Nothing Lasts Forever, which was adapted as Die Hard.

Currently reading Steve Hamilton's North of Nowhere. It's the 4th in his Alex McKnight, private investigator series.

Great reads. If you are into crime fiction, then definitely check out Hamilton's books.

HEADER is exactly the kind of Edward Lee novel/novella that I love. I just dug the hell out of it. I guess you won't be excited by the news that a movie adaptation recently wrapped filming?

An Alchemy of Mind: The Marvel and Mystery of the Brain by Diane Ackerman. If you're interested in science from the viewpoint of a poet, you should read this (and her previous book A Natural History of the Senses).

I just started WORD MADE FLESH by Jack O'Connell. The first couple chapters read like something out of the BOOKS OF BLOOD. I mean, the first eight pages are all about some guy being skinned alive in some weird cabalistic ritual. I like it.

A RENDEZVOUS IN AVEROIGNE, by Clark Ashton Smith. Finally broke down, after intense book lust that's lasted more than six months, and plunked down the fourty bones.
