As usual no listing for Phoenix, AZ; the 6th largest city in the U.S. Here are the cities we are larger than, damn it!

July 30th Open in Irvine
August 6th Open in Wash DC
Aug 13th Open in Dallas
Aug 27th Open in Durham, NC
Aug 27th Open in Sante Fe, NM
Sept. 3rd Open in Denver
Sept. 10th Open in Austin
Sept. 10th Open in San Fran
Sept. 10th Open in San Jose
Sept. 10th Open in Berkeley, CA
Sept. 10th Open in San Rafeal, CA
Sept 24th Open in Cambridge/Boston

Who do you have to blow to get some decent screenings in this friggin city? (I'm sure I'll get an enormous list of potential blowees, knowing this board...)

I've got it on DVD, live in Phoenix and have a big couch so I am a viable candidate.

hahahhaha yeah ive got it too, its a piece of shit. maybe i'll mail it to you.

I imagine the distributors are afraid the film would suffer the same fate as most visitors to Phoenix:

1. Melted by the extreme heat.
2. Shot up by one of the fine, upstanding criminal elements.
3. Run down by an addled senior citizen.

That being said, LA isn't a terrible drive, and there are plenty of things to do to justify the trip besides the movie.

Well, if it makes anyone else feel better, the list has been updated. At least we're getting it a week earlier in Boston...

OK, I saw this at a screening tonight and can someone else who has seen it confirm that it in fact has no plot?

That is correct. It is just a series of creepy vignettes where interrelated people are introduced and killed off. Creepy, but plotless.

This is part of a series of films (the only one I've seen is Grudge) and supposedly they all follow this pattern. Can anyone comment on whether or not one of these films is more plot based then the others?

I went to a screening of it last night and it did absolutely nothing for me. It didn't scare me. It didn't creep me out. It really bored me. A few years ago I thought asians painted up white will long spooky hair were kinda freaky but not too much anymore. I'm just shocked that this film was remade here in the U.S. since it has really no plot at all. Oh well. -Clark

The TV movies had a plot and IMHO were more effective than the Grudge. I did notice that one of the scenes from the remake trailer was from the TV movie so I have a hunch that they combined the two for the remake.
But The Grudge was already a remake of the two TV movies.

Well, no. It's a continuation. There are things set up in the TV movies that you didn't see until The Grudge like the school girl and why her reaction to the sake was important. If it were a remake the teacher and the psychic would have been part of the story instead of the caretaker. If you watch the trailer for the American remake you'll see a scene where (in the original TV movie he was the teacher but I'm not sure if the changed that) the teacher is looking out the window of the Sadeki house with Toshio sitting on the couch in the background making the cat sound. That scene was in the TV movie not the Japanese version of the Grudge which is why it looks like they're going to combine the story elements of the TV movie with the theatrical one to make it a more coherent package. The Japanese Grudge was like an expansion pack with new victims.

Oh, and if you're going to call your friends and make the noise into the phone make sure they've seen it first or they'll think you have a cold.

This noise? 310-581-7350

Part of some campaign they're doing...I think

That's a Lions Gate phone number. Where did you get it? Is there a promotional site for their Ju-on release? Should I call it?
I saw it in a "Missing" poster that was for the movie, like a promotional flyer. Had the little boy on it and said for more information to call the number. Creepy but WTF???

Ha! That's what Artisan did out here for the BWP about a month before it came out. I think I still have one of those around here somewhere.
