Sunglasses? WHAT?!

Yes, Summer is in full swing and I was curious what you other denizens of this board use for cataract or style protection.

I've got an old pair of Oakley C-Wires with ruby lenses that have been scuffed up quite a bit from rock climbing and wearing under a paintball mask. These have been recently replaced with a nice pair of Oakley Juliet's with the blue iridium lenses that (I've been told) change colour depending on the angle in which you're admiring them. Metrosexual you say? Fuck off. My eyes deserve the best.

RayBan 3182 Raiders, which seem to be called 4032's this year.

These were my second choice. I wore Serengeti Drivers for years and years, but Serengeti is just asking too much money for them now. Also, I decided that wearing plastic lenses would be smarter than wearing glass after just about ending up with a piece of glass sticking out of my eye.

A beanie along with some cheapo light brown lense/wooden-esque glasses...or aviators with a white stetson.

And btw, nothing wrong with being Metrosexual...nothing!

I am currentlly wearing Black 3.0 Square Wire

I also have a pair of Polarized Red Juliets, Square 2.0's in Titanium/Ice and an old pair of Black 5's..

They go well with my Oakley snowboarding jacket which makes the glasses seem like they cost petty change.

I also have an Oakley nightstand that is made our of the same Metal/Design as the Cabnit they sell oakleys in.

I wear glasses for nearsightedness, so without them my vision is blurry. Plus, my glasses have the transition lenses, so I really don't have to worry about sunglasses. But, back in September 2002, on the morning I was departing Rome, Italy, I did buy a cool pair of Benetton sunglasses just to have some handy for wearing on the beach, etc.

They have yellow lenses and are very European in style.

One word, Chuddies. One word is all you need.

My current shades

It's bright as hell here in Florida, so if you are getting shades, get the best.

Dang, you all put me to shame. My sunglasses cost me a whole wallet crunching $11.00... for 3 pairs. The ones I use the most are $5.00 off the street specials that work well enough, and one day I left those home by acciident and bought two more for $3.00 each that also work well enough. I leave them in my car so hopefully wherever I go I'll have a pair somewhere within reach.

Before those I had a pair from American Eagle, I believe, that I really liked, but they broke, and before that I had a pair of Oakleys that I LOVED which I actually also found. Somebody left them on a shelf in an electronics store. Must have put them down for a minute and walked on. I tried to find their owner but to no avail. They were great, but eventually they decided to explode. They fit really well, but one day they snapped and not at the hinge. After that I wondered howe they fit in the first place. Oh well.

I've been using the cheap ones because I'm afraid to put money into expensive ones in case they break or I lose them. Paranoia really, but my eyes are sensitive to the light, I can get migraines and stuff like that so you'd think I'd invest in some nice glasses. Heck, thos Oakleys were awesome so I'm gonna go out at lunch today and check some out...

well my wife is an optician so I get expensive sunglasses for dirt cheap. and hell I get them for free since I'm her husband. She wont buy my friend Oakleys because she thinks Oakleys are for losers.

My wife is an Elitest Optician! XD

I thought Oakleys sucked too, but I found my current stylin pair. And I really can tell a huge difference in lense quality compared to a 50 dollar pair of glasses I have.

I haven't had too much exposure to qulity sunglasses aside from the Oakleys I had, but as someone who can sometimes hardly function without sunglasses out in the sun with all the squinting, headaches and discomfort, the Oakleys were the best I've ever known. When they broke I even tried glueing them and taping them, but something just wasn't right... didn't work. The lenses were great and made me feel very comfortable. I shed a tear for them now. They served me well...

Does anybody have any other brands they'd reccommend? I'll look into some of the others mentioned here, and hopefully sooner or later I'll take the plunge. Heck, I sometimes need them in the winter too. The glare off of the snow can suck!

Thanks in advance.

clip-ons... like my father and his father before him...

I used to wear Oakleys all the time, but they kept friggin breaking. I then started wearing Spy Optics sunglasses. I broke that shit too, but they lasted 2 years, which was better than the Oakleys.

I now just get crappy $10 pairs until I can learn to take care of my shit.

A pair of old Ray Bans, that cut down on my peripheral vision when driving. Seriously need to buy new sunglasses.
Why are designer sunglasses so fucking expensive? What chemicals and compounds are in those shades to warrant paying hundreds of dollars? If they were made of adamantium and worked like the shades from THEY LIVE, I could understand it. For now, I'll keep buying my $20 Faux-Bans from Target or whatever.

Good optics cost money, especially polarized glass. They're not just dark plastic.

HOORAH for Polarized Glasses!

When you're driving, you can't beat 'em!
And besides, looking at tinted windows w/them on is fun as hell!

As Stan Lee would say "The same ones from that X-men movie." One has Ice blue lenses, the other has gold iridium lenses.

I got my Juliets when I saw that Cyclops wore them. That was what I said to our rep "Dude I want the glasses from the X-Men movie, In red just like in the movie."...

They were too hard to get so I settled on the Irdium ones, to this day the only sunglasses I wore were people would complement me on them. Usally a guy wearing oakleys...

I dont wear them anymore thou cause people have told me I look like a lost skier...

I also own a pair of $12 Walgreens sunglasses for when I go out to the Lake or somewere that I might lose importnant shit.

Sunglasses are just so easy to break or damage. When you're wearing a pair of designer shades, you're constantly babysitting them to make sure they aren't scratched or otherwise obliterated. I just can't see investing hundreds of dollars into something like that.
Just always throw the case in your pocket. ALWAYS put them in the case, when you are not wearing them.

It's not that bad, once you get used to it.

I wear the cheapest sunglasses I can find.

I just squint.  Never did Eastwood any harm.

I have a broke unemployed friend recently who spent $65 on a new pair of aviators, despite the fact that you kinda need to be a smart dresser to pull those off. When he tried to justify them to me, he told me that he needed new sunglasses and what sealed the deal for him was that they had a "lifetime warranty." Am I a jerk for telling him this was a stupid purchase, particularly considering his lifestyle? I mean, who gets a lifetime warranty on a pair of shades?

I got my pair free when I bought my normal glasses (thank you vison express).  Glasses are a nice pair of Dolce & Gabbana where as the Perscription Sunglasses are Hugo Boss.

Mind you were it not for my wifes influcence both would have been a lot cheaper.

You also need to be living in 1986 to pull aviators off. I haven't seen anyone look cool in them for 20 years.

Although, to be fair, I am just talking about white dudes. Kanye looks smooth as fuck when he sports them.

Lies.  I look pimptacular in my Ray Ban Aviators, although I'm far more partial to my tortoise-shell Wayfairers.

Nick's Oakleys are the shit.

I still have my Oakley XXs that I bought like 13 years ago in Vegas. I love these glasses.

I buy gas station cheapies, because it's inevitable that every pair of shades I own will end up lost or busted.
