Best Spike Lee Movies

Inspired by the post release discussion thread concerning Lee's new film She Hate Me

Rank the best Spike Lee films that you've seen.

1. Do The Right Thing
2. Malcolm X
3. Summer of Sam
4. 25th Hour
5. School Daze

I enjoy Lee's films and definitely need to see more of them. I've seen Jungle Fever, Mo Better Blues, and She's Gotta Have It, but I too young to understand what was going on. I should see them again before I rank them.

My favorite Spike Lee joint never gets the praise I think it deserves.

1. He Got Game
2. Malcolm X
3. Do The Right Thing
4. Clockers
5. Summer of Sam

*I liked 25th Hour quite a bit, but not memorable in my opinion.

4. She's Gotta Have It
5. Oh, I dunno...Malcom X or Crooklyn or He Got Game.

Get on the Bus is the most underrated, I think. I love that film because it gives the lie to the whole idea of their being a single "black America" or "black identity," instead showing this huge spectrum of different people who just happen to be black.

25th Hour is one of my favorite movies ever. I like it more each time I see it. Spike really deserved more recognition for it. Mo' Better Blues is a good film and also underated, IMO.

I forgot Bamboozled and He Got Game. They would be number 6 and 7 on my list repectively. I'm not sure what it is, but I despise He Got Game.

Bamboozled needs more love.

I forgot about Mo Better. No love for Bamboozled from me, though. Not because I think it's offensive or anything, I just think it's a sloppy, unfunny, and generally bad movie. My bottom 5 would be Bamboozled, Girl 6, School Daze (has some great stuff, but uneven and seems much longer than it is), and Clockers (good film, but doesn't really have the Spike Lee touch to it). Oh, I guess that's only 4. But there's probably another one that I forgot.

As much as I love Malcolm X and Do the Right Thing, 25th marked a leap forward for Lee as a director for me.
