I like it. The tone seems perfect to me. I loved Michael Keaton in the role but judging from the trailer, Christian Bale seems like he's got it down perfectly. Next summer is going to be fantastic. Or fantastically dissapointing. Either one.

I would've liked some music and some action. no talking.

then again, this is about discovering Batman again so now that I think about it, its better to get Bruce Wayne's footage instead

I know it's just a teaser; but couldn't we have at least seen Batman more than a couple seconds?
I'm still more excited by the elements than by anything I've seen from the film.

What? All forty five seconds of it or so?
Loved it.

Just perfect.

Sets the tone for a Wayne driven film, teases you with no indication of the character until the end...

Just very well done.

Those not liking it for not having more Batman...I can't say I understand. I mean, you're going to see him eventually, no? Isn't it kind of fun to tease yourself? In the...non sexual way. Of course.

It was a cool little teaser. I'm getting very good vibes from the cinematography. Bale's voice sounds perfect.

BOOM, baby.

aside from mediocre vid and sound quality.. this was perfect.

Great teaser and if this is an indication of the direction of the final product then we've got something special here.

Also glad they didn't shoot their wad sorta speak; save that for the full trailer.
Good teaser i'm psyched for this. That music was eerie and cool. Nolan is getting ready to hit geeks with a knockout punch with this flick. A good knockout punch.

Nice teaser, but the memory of the last Batman flick is still fresh on my mind. Batman Begins imo follows B&R too closely, and casual moviegoers may wonder about the continuity of the Batman movies. Plus, 4 different Batman actors in 5 Batman movies takes some getting used to. It may turn out great but I don't think it can top Spider-man and X-Men.

Even if it was the greatest, most loyal comic adaptation ever it still wouldn't make SM money for the simple fact that Batman is nowhere near as family-friendly a soncept, setup and world than your friendly neighborhood web-slinger.

IMO.

Did you sleep through 1989?

Far, faaaaaaaaaaar from it.

But heres the thing - the world of 89 aint the world of today for starters.

CFor seconds, Batman in 89 was hardly coming in the middle of a glut of comic adaptations now whas it?

If you wanted to see a superhero film in 89 - you had one option.

You want to watch a superhero film 15 years later - how many you got to choose from??

Exactly.
It's still Batman. He's an iconic character, and just as well known, if not more, than Spidey.

People will flock to Batman, as they will Spider-Man, and Superman. I mean, the fact that he is darker and cooler is a huge selling point to many people. The only real thing against it is that the previous flicks have ranged from decent to mindblowingly awful.

Also, I don't think the movie climate of 89 was too different. The only thing that's really changed are the budgets. The fact that there's tons of other superhero flicks won't change the fact that Batman, like 007 and Star Wars and Spider-Man, is a name that attracts people. The biggest question is on quality, and I think judging from the teaser and the cast, they have that in abundance.
Hey, no one would be more overjoyed if Batman Begins became then highest grossing comic film ever.

Batman owns my fuckin arse and always will

I still feel I may be correct - but Id love being wrong.

We shall see

I think this film will attract (aside from the usual bunch) a different brand of movie-goer that may not go for the Spider-Mans, the Hulks, or the X-Mens, especially with how Nolan seems to be shooting this thing tonally speaking. It may not be family friendly, but it's going to be dark and realistic. And believe me, there are lots of people that only take their movies that way.

Will it make as much as Spider-Man? Probably not. I would think the odds are against it. But I wouldn't be too surprised if it did.

Oh for sure - Od just argue there are more people up for a family friendly film is all.

Like I said - I pray Im wrong.

What will determine how many people go to see this film beyond us geeked-out moviegoers is based on how good of a full trailer that Nolan and WB can put together.

While I am excited about seeing this film, I am keeping my reality in check.

But, I have to agree with Dave Davis that I like the tone that Nolan is choosing for this film, based on what the teaser presents.
I admit that I love the style we see in this "teaser" and that it's going in the direction that I had hoped for. But c'mon, for the general public this is a shitty teaser! 90% of the target audience will go WTF? when they see this! For them there is nothing teasing about small cutscenes that look like they were from a documentary about Nepal!

If they really have nothing to show at this stage then it's better to wait untill they at least have a scene of Batman where he kicks some ass and not just sit there.

If I had had this footage and was asked to do a teaser I would have cut all the nature scenes and instead have the logo slowly revealing itself in those places. Keep the voiceover and other than that the only 4 scenes it should show should be 1: the one of Alfred 2: Bale opening the giant door 3: Bale on the floor with Ducard entering and 4 the shot of Batman. Intercut between these scenes should be the revealing of the logo.

But for a hungry geek that anticipates ANY NEWS about this flick, this is a good teaser!

For what is supposed to be a group of knowledgable movie fans there's a lot of people here who act like they've never seen a teaser before. You really want them to bust their load already a la Reloaded (is it even far enough along where they could)? You really want them to go all out and show a bunch of shots of Batman in action now, when SPOILER:

Batman doesn't even show up until at least half-way through the movie.
END SPOILER

As a teaser it gives you a good idea of the tone of the film. It doesn't show you much and that's the beauty of it. Moreover, this teaser will pique the interest of Joe Blow because he won't know what the fuck he's watching a trailer for and then BAM it's Batman. Joe Blow Moviegoer goes, "waitaminute, that's different", and immediately he's at least curious about the film. A superhero movie that doesn't look like a superhero movie, I think a lot of people would be intrigued by something like that.
Very slick trailer, tells you just what you need to know. A brief glimpse of batman at the end and Bale's ominous voiceover.

Nolan and Goyer have been heading in the right direction since day one, this teaser is just another step.
Just saw the trailer. Excellent. Bale's granite voice fits the character of Batman perfectly. For people complaining, we're not going to get the usual "Batman punches a couple of nameless thugs" shot in this trailer.

It's a new day. God, please don't let this movie suck.
This teaser wasn't about selling Batman to the masses it was about selling the fact that this is an entirely new approach to the mythos than what has come before. In that it succeeded.
IMO Harry knowles hits the nail with this statement and I bet A LOT of people will feel the same:

"The BATMAN BEGINS trailer, which didn’t do a thing for the audience or me – every shot seems underwhelming, the texture and depth of detail seems tragically lacking. And genuinely I hate the lighting package that they seem to be using."
Harry hasn't hit the nail on anything. It's an awareness trailer. Not a sales pitch. That'll come in due time. Until then, the casual fan can bite me.

Take care,
Chuck

Exactly.
It's fine if you didn't like the teaser, so what, it served it's purpose, when they have more they'll show us more.

Casual fans indeed, probably the ones that keep mentioning "Spider-Man" as if it reflects on this film in more than just a superficial manner.
raindog and chestrockwell have summed up all my feelings perfectly already... so ill just say this

god. damn. i. love. this. movie.

its not even out and i love it, theyve done everything perfectly, and now that the teaser has come out, and blown my expectations away (showing the totally different approach to the franchise, and selling it as a bruce wayne movie, as opposed to the last few neon-bat-credit-card-hells), i cant possibly think of any movie im looking foward to more than this.

Mr. Nolan, for giving me the first real batman movie since 1989, i will sacrifice my first born child in your honor.

Bless you sir.. bless you.

"It's an awareness trailer" LMAO that's a good one! Actually WB made this just to satisfy the geeks right?
This is not a trailer, we'll get that soon enough, it's a teaser and something to keep us quiet for awhile. I have faith when a trailer does arrives, we won't be disappointed. Nolan and Goyer are going for more than just Batman beats up a couple of thugs and breaks up a crime syndicate which is all fanboys seemingly want.
I saw the trailer before The Village and man, what a difference a giant screen makes. It was very effective. I love the way it's set up as a self discovery thriller until we see the batman image flash for a millisecond, then the realization comes. Alot of people in the audience gasped. I love the way they're selling this movie... a realistic interpretation of a fictional comic character. When we finally get to see Batman after setting up Bruce and his dilemma... man, tis' will be sweet.
I think the purpose of this trailer is to sort of wash away the old feelings of the prior Batman movies in the public eye. When you say Batman to most people, they think of bright colors, rubber nipples, and all-and-all out stupidty. This trailer isn't so much to entice people to come see the movie, I think, as it is to introduce people to the fact that there is a new Batman movie and that it won't be like the others. Sort of a "Hey... you know those other Batman movies? Well, this new one is different" kind of deal. I'm sure the real trailer will be the "Okay, now that's out of the way, here's ass-kicking."

I for one enjoyed it. Confirmed the direction the franchise is going, that the style of the film is being heavily controled by Nolan, and that this will be a much darker, more personal film than probably any of the movies currently swirling in the comic book crazy market right now. As of now, the darkest super hero movie out there in the recent comic book swarm is probably Daredevil, whereas the Hulk is probably trying to be the more artistic and X-Men being the most balanced of that. I think Batman is going to come in and bring some very needed darkness and maturity to this kid/teenager friendly market. Note: I love the Spider-Man and X-Men movies, but I think if Batman Begins doesn't have Bruce in the cape until half-way through, excellent. That means character development, and character development is a good thing.

No. Apparently they made it to introduce this new concept called a "teaser", apparently it's some new promotional tool used to excite people about a potentionally huge film w/out giving away a whole lot.

I've heard that it's supposed to let you "fill in the blanks" as it were, get your imagination running you know?
I really enjoyed the teaser and i hope the movie delivers what it promises, a Batman movie with soul-searching, action and no polyester.

Well said. I didn't like the Teaser too much at first. But giving it a little more thought I think it was a brilliant choice to release it like this. I mean, it very clearly shows how different it's going to be than the last two jokes. It also does a good job in suggesting that this has alot more to tell then Batman fucking over some badguy. Looks very drama orientated to me with a very realistic tone to it. This will sell I'm sure. If it will make more money than Spidey, who knows. And really, who cares? It won't bomb that's for sure. I'm far from a comic fan but I'm psyched for this. Nolan was a top choice and to this point it looks like he knows what he's doing.

see the tumbler in action
Talk about a vehicle MADE for action; at slow speeds it needs wide turns but at fast speed if can turn the corner better than most cars!
I really liked the stills of the Batmobile from the beginning, but seeing it in motion makes it look WAY better.
I have to agree. The still shots don't do it justice. And I like the hum of the engine.
That footage is sweet. The Batmobile moves like it can turn on a dime. Call me impressed.
