Time for season two and summer blockbuster time. Is it time to get out some tentpoles and rake in the dough or buck tradition and eschew special effects in favor of smarter alternative programming? Your studio, so you decide.

Also, for the poll, I took what would I thought would be the highest profile film from each studio, Proyas gets two this round. If you vote for other, please list which movie your choice would be. You know....just so we know.

The Shrinking Man (Sci-fi remake; loose adaptation)

Scott Carey (Joaquim Phoenix) has a problem. Diagnosed with early testicular cancer, he goes to a secret government lab for a radical new treatment for shrinking tumors. It's a success, but has one drawback: the rest of his body is shrinking also! He shrinks one inch per week. The government doctors, overeen by the cold, remote Special Agent Hiers (Ron Perlman), try to reverse the procedure, to no avail. Scott's wife (Clea Duvall) tries to be supportive, but his self-pity alienates her. Soon, Scott is small enough that his own 2 year-old daughter is bigger than him and can beat him up.

Agent Hiers decides to "close the book" on this experiment and orders Carey erased. As government spooks menace his wife, the inches-high Carey must hide out in his daughter's dollhouse and avoid the hungry family cat. Oh, and there are also spiders to contend with.

As a last ditch effort, Agent Hiers brings out his secret weapon: hunter-seeker nanites programmed to find Scott Carey and eliminate him! Will Carey escape? Will he ever return to normal? Find out on June 29th!

Summary:
Documented cases of human abductions by UFOs have become commonplace in areas of sparse population in countries throughout the world. World governments step up their military readiness, and there is a general news blackout in most of the affected countries. Scientists try to make contact with the aliens, but there is no substantial response.

Many countries begin to contemplate a direct military strike against the aliens. In July, 1998, Japan establishes the Kiryu-Kai, an anti-alien combat force. After five months of operation, using the best equipment available, the group is unable to intercept even a single UFO. Due to lack of funding, Japan is forced to disband the Kiryu-Kai in November of 1998.

On December 11, 1998, the United Nations Security Council holds a clandestine summit in Geneva, Switzerland. After much debate, it is unanimously decided that a covert, multinational military-force should be formed to investigate, combat, and (hopefully) defeat the aliens. Assembling the best pilots, soldiers, engineers, and scientists from all the funding nations, the Geneva council establishes X-COM-the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit.

In the years following the rise of Palpatine and the birth of the Empire, the Jedi have been hunted to near extinction. Only a last, desparate few remain, but they face relentless pursuit by agents of the Sith. Jedi Master Jeryl Sunn (Chow Yun Fat) and his former padawan Ivrin Tal (Milla Jovovich) stage a daring escape from an Imperial cruiser and seek refuge in the smuggler's den Nar Shadda...

Hoping to lure the Jedi into a trap, Captain Farnaud (Kevin Spacey) and Sith agents Wann Via (Zhang Ziyi), Jasta Sorin (Kelly Hu) and their Master Forlan Narr (Eric Bana) stage a strike on the nearby agricultural world of Este, knowing the Jedi cannot stand idly by. Master Sunn and Ivrin must make a choice between protecting their own lives and those of the Estens, but for a Jedi their is no choice. However, in her efforts to find a ship, Ivrin is captured by Ojjo the Hutt and forced to fight a deadly alien known only as The Fiend (Jackie Chan). Unknown to the Hutt, The Fiend is both intelligent and strong with the Force and Ivrin finds she can communicate with it telepathically. Ivrin and the Fiend escape together, finding that meanwhile, Master Sunn has found Bolo Mantilla (Will Smith), an explorer and treasure hunter who grew up on Este but left to pursue his dreams of space travel, and Hazar Kast (Vin Diesel), one of the last of the Mandalorians, who secretly plots to hand the Jedi over to the Empire.

The party heads for Este in Bolo's ship The Midwinter Sun and with the help of the Jedi's powers, breach the blockade to meet with Spire Mandling (Gary Oldman), the Governor of the planet. Together they try to organise a defence, but with few ships they stand little chance even against the relatively small attack force.

Master Sunn steals the Governor's ship and launches a single-handed strike against Captain Farnaud's ship before a full scale bombardment commences, leaving Ivrin to command the defence. Hazar Kast, initially planning to betray the Jedi decides that as a true Mandalorian he will face death, even against impossible odds. With the veteran warrior on their side, the Estens seem to have a chance when Forlan Narr joins the assault. Ivrin Serna rushes to face him, knowing that no-one else can face her former friend from the Jedi Academy.
Meanwhile, Master Sunn is ambushed by Wann Via and Jasta Sorin. Facing the combined power of the two Sith and countless Stormtroopers, he is overcome and disarmed until The Fiend springs from the shadows to join the battle.

Seeing the battle is lost, Captain Farnaud sets his ship on a collision course for Este City and Master Sunn must sacrifice his life, pushing The Fiend into an escape pod before overloading the ship's reactor.
Seeing the explosion in the sky, Ivrin knows that her master is dead, but the resistance must go on.

"The Fiend. Imagine Gollum, only with it being Jackie Chan playing a razor-clawed fighting machine. Like a cross between Yoda and the Alien." [Inside source at WETA]

"Luckily the Studio let me do pretty much what I wanted, so I don't really have to cater for the kid's market. It's a bit grittier and bloodier than your usual Star Wars film. And yes, there are arms chopped off, more than just arms." [Director Ridley Scott]

Summary: There are many theories on what caused the World Crash of 2014. Some say it was the over zealous policing of foreign countries by the US. Some blame it on the massive Earthquake (which may or may not have been caused by an American made geothermic nuke) that destroyed most of Japan. Some point the finger at the merging of OPEC and Microsoft, which effectively brought world control to Bill Gates for a short time. Some even blame the French who may or may not have crippled the once great economy of the US, but definitely destroyed the telephone system. One thing is clear though. It's obvious who brought the world back to it's feet. That would be Mr President (Forrest Whitaker), who now selflessly takes care of us all as the Emperor......er, President of the World. Poverty and hunger are a thing of the past......except in Africa...and no one wants to go there anyway since all the native animals are extinct. Population control is done through exciting sporting events and game shows. Crime is almost nonexistent, since it's hard to really say what's a crime now days. Most importantly, every citizen of the world is happy. Pills and TV keep them that way. Of course, no one is happier than when the annual presidential election rolls around. Because elections are now determined by the biggest and most popular sporting event in the history of mankind - The Transcontinental Road Race. The object is simple - race cross country from LA to New York, racking up points along the way by killing pedestrians by hit and run or by killing your opponent. Get to New York first or survive with the most points. Each year, the top qualifiers from local circuits are chosen for the big race, given the honor to decide who will be the President. Win the race, you're a national hero and your candidate is elected President. As a new extra exciting twist just added this season, if you lose and your candidate is shamed.......by public execution. Or course, most losers don't actually survive the race in order to be shamed by their candidate's execution. With former winners like Machine Gun Joe Viterbo (George Clooney) and Calamity Jane (Cameron Diaz) on hand, plus the sport's greatest living legend, Frankenstein (Ralph Fiennes), this year's race threatens to be the most exciting ever and all the world is watching. Of course...there are certain subversive elements out there who would see this as the perfect time to stage their revolution for all the world to see. But, Mr President has rid the world of Terrorists and Free thinkers.....hasn't he?

This August......Drive Offensively.

"Death Race 2035" sounds great, SS. The cast is near perfect . . . except for Clooney. I don't see him as the thuggishly irritable Machine Gun Joe. I still think Stallone owns that role.

However, Franka Potente as Matilda? I'm there.

Thanks. I know Clooney probably isn't ideal for the role, but he's good at over the top roles and for some reason, I can picture him doing a mean Stallone impersonation. I don't know why. Probably just me.
