I watched this damn movie because I both had a weird crush on Janeane Garofalo at the time and because I lived in Idaho and being on the tail end of "Generation X" I wanted a road map of what I was supposed to be doing. I didn't want anything to do with any of these characters. And I also decided that allowing myself to be included in a generation named after a short and quite lame book was not for me.

I still have a minor crush on Janeane, though.

i was 18 when this came out, which is just about the right age-range, and i found the film pandering and patronising. here's the point: i think your rereviews (is that what you called it?) is a mighty fine idea, especially for those who ain't teenagers anymore. i don't know how old the average chewer is though. Does Nick, for that matter?
do it anyway!

When it was released, I thought this was a cool movie. I saw it again yesterday, and with the exception of Stiller, I pretty much despised these people.

Great review Devin. And I like the idea of Re-reviewing movies that weren't huge hits.

I saw this movie for the first time yesterday and I was completely suprised by just how much it took me back to the early 90's. There's certainly a lot of bad aspects to this movie, but at the very least, I really felt like I was back in high school watching this. Stiller captured perfectly the style & attitude of MTV.

My problems with the movie are the same that most people have but I was also impressed that they made the Yuppie more than just a caricatured money-hungry ass hole. Devin's idea of a sequel (actually didn't mention the word sequel, but a look into the future) is great. If nothing else to laugh at the complete failure that Troy has become.

It's too bad they left out the deleted scene between Stiller & Ryder, as it really cements the childish, early 20's attitude that will actually doom her character's future. "Love shouldn't be something you work at?", does she really think her relationship with Troy will be easy?

Very well done review, Devin, though I think I would have given it a higher score (I think seeing it for the first time at 26 has a lot to do with that, though).

Bumpity-Bump.

So I watched this for the first time in about ten years, and was surprised that there was a bit in there that I liked, mostly in the first half of the movie. It's totally of it's time, and does capture a degree of that 'what the fuck do I do now' post college/ uni attitude. Yeah the characters are, at times, incredibly annoying, but that's sort of the point- they might have finished college, but they're all a bunch of kids in most ways.

It tries to cram too much in - the AIDS stuff, the coming out scene, and then becomes disappointingly straightforward in the last act, but there's something about it that I can identify with, although this is a movie I can understand people hating. Although I do, to my shame, love the 'My Sharona' scene.
