[QUOTE=djhotpocket2001]No problem. The player I linked you to also has the NTSC to PAL converter in it, so that would allow you to watch UK discs. Region hacking a US player probably won't allow you to watch UK discs since the Brits use PAL, a different video standard than we do, and most DVD players that are readily buyable here don't have the converter built in like the Malatas do.
From what I read, the Philips model does have this converter, its just set to only play region 1 disks. The hack code is entered through the remote to reset the unit configuration to accept all dvds. Although I have an engineering background, I'm far from an electronics or computer expert, so I'm hopefully not just buying into internet BS. But if this works, it may be a decent route for people here to get a relatively cheap region-free player at their local electronics supplier (e.g., Best Buy, Target, etc.). I'll post the results next week when I have both the player and the DOTD 2004 dvd in hand.
