Mine shipped yesterday (the same day as all of yours).

There's going to be a giant cosmic rift when we all watch the movie at the same time...

Just recieved my copy from Play-Asia, gonna check it out tonight when the girlfriend comes home from work. Woo hoo!
I got a copy of the unrated cut on Friday. Checked it out over the weekend and I must say, I'm rather pleased.
It's better than the theatrical cut; a little more gore, a little more character developmen, all in all
it's just a better version of the film.

One problem though; none of the special features on my disc work. Well, the deleted scenes work, but that's it.

Still going to get the Region 1 disc when it's released.

That sucks about your special features not working. Is your disc the region 3 one? I will be supremely pissed off if mine don't work.

Also, isn't this disc exactly the same as the one that will eventually be released in the US?

Yeah it's the Region 3 release. Not sure what country it's from, but the subtitles seem to be in Thai or something... most of the box is too... got it for free though from a friend so I can't complain. That also means I can't return it though.

I'm not sure if it's the same release that Region 1 will get, but I'm going to get the R-1 just so I can actually check out the special features. I really wanted to hear the commentary. Any word on whether or not it's any good?
Just delved into this disc and I only watched Andy the gun store owner's video diary so far. It was disturbing and a bit sad actually. I won't spoil it (unless you ask of course) but it's a really cool extra for this disc, like a little 15 minute film itself.

As for my copy, not a bit of foriegn lettering on the box at all. It has english and thai laguage tracks and subs for most asian languages except japanese. It also has the proper UK trailer for Shaun of the Dead, so thats a plus too.

IT HAS ARRIVED!!!

Anyone else get his/hers yet? We should totally watch it simultaneously or something like that and collectively drool over the added gore here.
I'm still fucking waiting for mine.

I figure it should come today (Thursday). If so, I'll watch it tonight after cutting the lawn and making BBQ sauce.

Oh wait I can't...Moron Scott is coming over to take his Plymoth Sattellite over to Rob's so they can work on it so, he can finally remove it from my fucking garage!!!!

Here's a tip for ya, kids: Never nevernevernevernever ever do any favors for friends, because they are mongoloid retards who don't appreciate anything.

I just did a quick check on some of the stuff that I knew had been trimmed for the theatrical release. The chainsaw stuff is pretty gross in the unrated version. You see one zombie getting sawed in half and another one has first one leg sawed off then there's a quick cut away to one of the human characters, then we see the other leg getting sawed off! Fucking awesome! There's also some more nice and squishy head shots where the heads basically explode SCANNERS style. I also checked out the SPLITTING HEADACHES documentary which is a bit short but still highly informative and a lot of fun. The disc itself seems to be absolutely identical to the upcoming US version except for the different region code (region 3) and the fact that it also has Thai audio (this I have to check out soon!) and subtitles in every Asian language imaginable. If you have a codefree player there's no reason why you shouldn't pick this one up.

Isn't one of the special features "news" footage about the outbreak?

Did you watch that?
If so, how was it?
Post some pics for us Region 1 Neanderthals, guys.

Yeah, there's a 20 minute feature titled SPECIAL REPORT which has all the news footage you saw in the movie and a ton more incorporated into a fake broadcast. There's an extended version of the Savini cameo that is fucking hilarious. After explaining about the shoot them in the head part he goes on to say that he had to put down his real estate agent and then points at a freshly killed zombie and says: "That woman ... I think I once did her." The newscaster is not the best actor and a bit embarassing at times but mostly it's a very cool feature.
I'm really craving the special features. Damn my disc! It's painful to have it sitting right there, but know that they don't work. Such a tease!

Contact Play Asia and tell them you have a defective disc, and they should exchange it.

I can't wait to see the Special Report segment.

I love that kind of stuff, and wished that there was more of in in the actual movie.

Problem is like I said, it was a gift from a friend. He had his brother pick it up for me while he was in Asia, just from some store, don't know where exactly and his brother claims that he can't remember, so I don't think an exchange is possible...

Like I said though; it was a gift so I shouldn't complain.
Whoops, sorry, I thought you got it from Play Asia...not Asia...

That's too bad. Maybe someone can tape it for you and send you the tape?
I'm going crazy I can't wait any longer for this to come out.

I just ordered the DOTD 2004 dvd from Play-Asia and also ordered what I thought was a region-free player (Philips DVP642) from Amazon.com, but had to cancel the order as it won't be shipping for at least 4 weeks. When I called another distributor, they said it cannot play discs other than Region 1. Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap player (and a source therefor)? I'm hoping to spend less than $75 if possible. Thanks!

This is the one I picked up and I'm loving it, although 3 weeks ago it was $10 less.
Thanks djhotpocket2001! I may end up ordering this model, but I did some research and found hack codes that convert the Philips model to region free. I also found that my local Target has the 642 model in stock, so I'm going to try this route first.

my friend picked up a JVC player at BB for under $100 and I popped in a region 3 DVD and it played just fine

more research is needed though

No problem. The player I linked you to also has the NTSC to PAL converter in it, so that would allow you to watch UK discs. Region hacking a US player probably won't allow you to watch UK discs since the Brits use PAL, a different video standard than we do, and most DVD players that are readily buyable here don't have the converter built in like the Malatas do. To be honest there are 3 reasons why I didn't just region hack my other Samsung player:

1.) http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...150171-3932643

2.) http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...150171-3932643

From what I read, the Philips model does have this converter, its just set to only play region 1 disks. The hack code is entered through the remote to reset the unit configuration to accept all dvds. Although I have an engineering background, I'm far from an electronics or computer expert, so I'm hopefully not just buying into internet BS. But if this works, it may be a decent route for people here to get a relatively cheap region-free player at their local electronics supplier (e.g., Best Buy, Target, etc.). I'll post the results next week when I have both the player and the DOTD 2004 dvd in hand.

Sounds like you got a bootleg, that's big in Asia right now and most boots usually have special features cut out of them.

arghh this is irritating... i want this DVD now..was hoping to have it for my day off tomorrow but nope...12 days later after shipping..still not here...
I watched the unrated cut this morning, I have a really shady memory of watching it in theatres but the cut stuff wasn't that exciting, the only bits I noticed were new were them getting in [those shambling guys in the BG were nice] and the Andy gun shop.

Oh yeah, i'm 85% sure this is unrated cut stuff, but if i'm wrong sorry but...

That naked chick added to the cut is the most gratuitous nudity EVER, I almost burst into laughter at how out of nowhere and blick of the eye it was.

Overall I give marks for the opening showing the zombie breakdown that's always alluded our sight but the movie is just too full of characters you don't get to know or care, also the ending ruins it for you.
I watched this again yesterday (sick day from work, and all...) and I just love the "jogger zombie" scene.
