Don Murphy

If you haven't read KILLER INSTINCT, it perfectly sums up Don's sad personality. A big baby who wanted to direct but sucked at it, so he started bullying people around and calling it "producing". His produced films are just as bad as his directorial efforts. One of those guys who wanted to be an artist but got a lucky break from Oliver Stone and is riding the coatails.

I've always felt that Murphy wants to "create a persona" around himself so that he becomes "legendary" or something, creating a cult of personality that will make people interested in him and by extension, his "work" as a filmmaker. These days, we talk about Sam Peckinpah with reverence and his "surly, mean-ass motherfucker" personality is part of the charm of the Peckinpah legend. The problem is, Murphy trolls the internet haranging webmasters and talkbackers as if trying to get people to be like, "Wow, that Murphy - he's ONE CRAZY GUY!!!" - when, actually, it's just kind of sad. Hunter S. Thompson can legendarily be the "angriest dog in the world" (read his famed "Rum Diary" fax or his latest, albeit barely coherent Vanity Fair tirade about the Colorado justice system), but he got to that place over time and, somewhat - depending on what you believe - organically. When the Sex Pistols came around, they just played fucked-up angry rock that later got dropped into the newly-created category of "Punk." Murphy is like the bands these days who say, "We're going to be punk by acting all angry because that's what punk bands do!"

He's derivative and his footnotes are showing. And yes, I know that he'll rant all day about "how much LXG did internationally and on video" to justify why an "LXG 2" is being developed, but I still haven't seen any evidence of talent behind the fast keyboard work or the "This e-mail is copyrighted by me so you can't publish it so that maybe people in Hollywood won't read it and think I'm a royal jackass" sig lines.

But, that's just my opinion.

What's great about this board and others like it is that you guys react as IF you expected established working filmmakers to just take your abuse and thank you for it.

Not one of you sad scrotes has addressed the point- Devin lied. Why? And how is that okay?

What is this whole lying scandal? It's hard to follow this stuff, with all the editing of posts and locking of threads.

Back on topic, Don Murphy has had more success in the film biz than I have, so I'll give him that. But, From Hell was grossly fucking mishandled, League of Extraordinary Gentleman could've stood a scene of Sean Connery boning Peta Wilson (with fucked up neck scars) and a few more scenes of the Invisible Man molesting British school girls....

and, well...the guy seemed to have jack and shit to actually do with Natural Born Killers. Maybe, hiding condoms full of coke up his ass for Oliver Stone took a lot out of the poor guy.

Sure Devin pissed him off, Devin may've even lied to the guy...but, this is the internet. The Home of Donkey Shows and credit card fraud, so take this call to arms from a rather anonymous geek fuck from the voids of cyberspace.

Sure, it might have made money from the morons, but artistically it was a shocking piece of dirt and a travesty compared to the GREAT source material it was based on. I'm still confused. Murphy tells Devin that he's making 1963 for whatever reason. (Not true.) Devin reports that Murphy told him that he's making 1963. (True.) How is Devin the one who lied?

Also, the "Alan Moore is my special buddy" stuff is pretty funny, especially since it's pretty common knowledge that Moore completely disowns Murphy's bastard adaptations.
