Don Murphy - Page 4

Lets see, I said I had not seen the league of extraordinary gentlemen so couldn't comment on it

I then said I was now unlikely to check it out based on the way you conduct yourself here

I suggested there are more professional ways of responding to criticism on the Internet

I even sited an example of another producer who responds to his critics online but does it with a modicum of intelligence

I then gave the advice that maybe there are more productive things you could be doing with your time

I can see why that would be baffling to you

Don, a few things to say to ya bud.

First off, LXG's failure to be a good film is NOT something I see anyone realistically putting as blame on your shoulders. Not that you can say here, but I heard that Ol 007 threw his weight around pretty big time as Exec Pro. I've heard a few stories about what went on behind closed doors with The Connery.

Second, I liked bully and From Hell (I may catch shit for that) as well as apt pupil (prolly will catch shit for this). Those were all movies you were attached to, so why do you care what someone here says? Last time I checked, (i'll check again right now) Devin's name doesn't show up anywhere on IMDB or yahoo movies, yours does. What do you have to prove?

Third, seriously seriously, do NOT even try and argue with people here. You're vastly outnumbered, and most of these guys, like me, have been on message boards for years and have the art of masturful flames down to a pinpoint science. Regardless, in the long run, you cannot win.

It sucks to be the black guy at the KKK rally so I suggest cooling your heels just a mite, or you'll go insane. At least tomorrow I'll still be working at my day job, devin will be bashing some other movie/actor/director just for the heck of it, and you'll actually be doing something cool.

Trade ya.

EDIT:
PS. Bully totally ruined T3 for me. I just kept sitting there thinking, IVE SEEN HIS DOINK!

Hey, Maahr-fey ... what's the difference between you and a mallard with a cold ? One's a sick duck ... I can't remember how it ends but your mother's a whore.

Sorry, I got nothing.

Don, shouldn't you be out producing movies?

No.
No, he shouldn't be producing movies at all.

Man, I was just thinking about Apt Pupil again...what a shitty movie. It removed basically the entire point of the short story, when the kid starts murdering the hobos. They turned it into an after school special. The movie was a neutered piece of crap.

Couldn't let this one pass:

It's EXACTLY the job of a producer to make sure that an egomaniacal star doesn't bully the director off the picture, seize control of the editing room and churn out a miserable failure of a film, just like it's exactly the job of a producer to make sure that a screenwriter doesn't butcher and rape the source material by turning a brainy and cool graphic novel into a stunningly loud and stupid action movie. Those are the signs of a producer who either has no spine, no power, or no taste, and any way you slice it, Murphy fucked up.

Why does everyone on this board feel a need to bash on Murphy? It's turning into a competition about who can come up with the biggest smart-ass response. Sure, some of his movies sux big time, but this seems to be more like a beef between him and Devin.

Cuz deep down, you know most of us are jealous that he's producing movies and we're not.

I dunno....this is one of those "Remember when...." moments that people will talk about 5 years later.

For once I think violence is the answer. Let's get Devin and Don out on Sunset Blvd and have them beat the shit out of each other.

Winner gets to call the other a "Dumbass" and it closes this chapter.

I'm not jealous of raving sociopaths.

I understand your point, but check this. LXG had 2 producers and 2 exec producers.
Jane Hamsher and Don murphy both worked on from hell and apt pupil togethor.

Executive Producers:
Trevor Albert - Bedazzled, Multiplicity
Mark Gordon - Day after tomorrow, Hard Rain

I mean why aren't any of the other three to blame for this? I'd certainly place blame on Mark Gordon or Trevor Albert before Don Murphy. Is it just because Don posts here and we can bash him?

Partially. It's because he gets amusingly belligerent when we bash him. Had he merely said, "Hey, you take your shots - some hit, some are flops," I think even the smarmiest of us wouldn't have been able to come back with much more than a, "Well, ok. Better luck next time."

Those people aren't on this website crowing about how LXG was such a stunning financial and artistic success. if Mark Gordon showed up and started acting like a raging braindead dickhead, I'd make fun of him too.

But yes, I still think Murphy deserves most of the blame for LXG, simply because he's the self-professed comic book fan and apparently Alan Moore's bestest friend in the whole wide world. That gives him a responsibility to not horribly rape the source material in an attempt to pander to the lowest common denominator. The other producers were no doubt incompetant, but Murphy is the only one of them who genuinely should have known better.

So a Don Murphy and Scorched Planet callback all at once.

Can we hope that "somewhere" means "away"?

Saw the remnants of this on AICN.  Don't know why AICN scrubbed the posts.

I'd love to know why this guy wants to meet you, but when it comes down to it I'd have to advise against it.  He's just too mentally unbalanced and that plus his Hollywood sense of self-entitlement could drive him to do anything.
