Whats up with that?

why is it that the lucky people overseas get the cool dvds(DOTD 04, Hellraiser box set, etc. etc.) before we do? another example is here we are getting excited over the dawn of the dead box set, when overseas have had these versions of the movies on dvd for awhile. It just dosent seem fair.

As someone who lives "overseas" I have to say you need to chill. A few cool DVD releases may get released outside of the US first but you guys still get 99% of all movies first. HELLBOY still hasn't come out in theaters anywhere in Europe and won't do so for another month. Most horror films don't even make it to Europe and if they do there's months and sometimes years of delay. You have no idea how good you have it in the US so don't whine if there's a DVD coming out in another country a few weeks before you get it.

Inexpensive, quality region free players are out there. I just got a Malata from ebay for 110 dollars including shipping. It even does NTSC/PAL conversion.

Region Free wil set you free, brothers.
Definately, I actually got one, a daewood, for $50 on Ebay a year or so I guess and it's truly a wonderful thing to be able to be region free.

Because we've spent thirty or so years being fed edited classic horror, or worse still, been deprived of some classics.

That is why I have a all code/all region, NTSC/Pal DVD player.

I highly recommend one for the serious horror fan.

That way, you can watch anything, and snatch up all those UK or other foreign discs.

Exactly. Why should I have to pay a total of $24 (tickets, snacks, etc.) and wait until the end of September to see Shaun of the Dead when I can import it and watch it from the couch, sparing me the horror of teenage kids talking on their phones and getting up out of their seats every 5 minutes. Because, as far as I know, killing those snotty nose little fuckers is STILL illegal.

Not to mention the bad-ass releases that never make it over to this side of the pond (i.e. Hellraiser Puzzle Box set). When I open that thing up, I hope fucking chains fly out and tear my face off. It'll be worth it.

It's funny that you use that as an example, dj...

I just ordered Shaun of the Dead from amazonUK, for the exact reasons you mentioned...plus I can't wait to see the movie.

How expensive is it? U guys are lucky damnit!!! I don't mind watching movies that are delayed, I'm excited about Shaun and I can patiently wait.
I remember I bought REgion 2 "28 Days Later" just to find out it couldn't work on my DVD player
All Together now...."DUMBASS!!"

I know this probably sounds stupid but one thing I've been wondering about is: Why are there different region DvDs and Players i understood it with tape (Beta and VHS) But why DVDs if they stopped encoding DvDs or made all new players region free it would make things alot easier.

Basically it's because of when movies are released in different countries at different times. For example, I don't think Hellboy has been theatrically released in the UK yet, while it's already on DVD here. If all brits could purchase Hellboy DVDs from the US instead of going to the cinema, it would make far less money in british theaters. But, those with region free players can watch any film on DVD, from any country, basically sending a hearty "Fuck You" to the whole idea of region coding and stupid international film release schedules.

I picked up this player from e-bay and for the price it's a steal.

It came to $110 with shipping. That's almost cheaper than ones selling at Best Buy that can only watch region 1 discs.

Any disc, from any where can be at your fingertips.

Fuck region coding, right in it's ear.

Ugh, I just wanna go home and take a nap.

I just bought a Toshiba SD-4900 and I hacked it myself by using the download at this place.
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.ph...Toshiba+SD4900
It has a PAL convertor and it's just diabled when it's sold in the US, so these computer guys figured out a way to get around it's region coding. For $80, I now have a region-free progressive scan DVD player and it's a damn fine unit. Type in your DVD player model at that video help site and see if they have a hack for it.

STOP STALKING ME!!!!!!

some DVD players can be cracked/hacked right out

I had a Konka that all I had to do is open the tray, punch in "6666" and enter and that would bring me to the manufactures menu

too bad that player crapped out on me
