I've been facinated with Sharks since I can remember. I love their primal beauty. Since JAWS, the awe became a quiet uneasiness that I've traced to my main fear of being eaten alive, especially when trapped in an almost helpless state.
When Discovery runs shark week I'm there and have set through countless reinactments of the Rodney Fox attack.
My very favorite documentary was the National Geographic special on white sharks aired on NBC awhile back where they showed whites gorging on seals off the coast of California. It's eerie to see the film crew go out in the still waters to the icky deep reddness in the aftermath.
I've seen countless Shark films from the very best in JAWS, to low-brow Italian fare like Bava's MONSTER SHARK. And don't tell anyone, but I actually liked most of the JAWS sequeals. I have particularly fond memories of my grandfather taking me to 3 and wearing the shades. I thought Michael Caine kept JAWS: THE REVENGE above water even if it doesn't hold as much interest on repeat viewings, which probably makes me certifiably mad.
Anyhoo.. can't wait to see OPEN WATER. Any thoughts on this fun sub-genre?
