Nervous laughter was heard after the fact. "Holy shit!" a guy behind me exclaimed when the Queen erupted from the ice.
At my showings, there was a lot of applause, clapping, cheering, etc. The audience was definitely into the movie and enjoyed it as far as I could tell. Last movie I saw this kind of reaction to was the LOTR trilogy. This is the internet, comprised mostly of hardcore film geeks and what not, so I don't expect the majority of the people online to like such a movie. Everything concerning AVP is negative "online" right now, but again, it's very different with the general movie going audience. When I hear about ticket sales and everything dropping due to "bad word of mouth" it makes me laugh. The Village is a good example of this happening, but not AVP. Most people actually had high expectations that weren't matched for The Village and ended up hating it, where many people (including myself) had extremely low expectations for AVP and ended up liking it. The Village wasn't the "monster movie" I was hoping for, but AVP came along and was, although I definitely see the gripes others have. My outlook on the flick is basically similar to Wetbone's.

Just more evidence that the general movie going public are sheep that will take any just about any shit that the studios force down our throats.

From Superherohype.com:

"Bloody-Disgusting has a report from a recent screening of Alien vs. Predator which included a Q&A with the film's writer and producer Paul W.S. Anderson. Here's an interesting bit...

About the studio's cutting of the film, which he had no control over, he said, and I quote, "All of the best scenes were cut." Anderson was obviously very annoyed at the way the film was released. However, this was not purely because of the PG-13 limitation, which incidentally, the studio enforced THREE WEEKS before the release date! It was always going to be R until then. Part of the reason for the cutting was that some of the effects were not ready by the time the release date came around. The effects team had very little time to do anything.

As far as the content that was cut, apparently we see all those who die, die on screen, but he also said that there is a sub-plot that we will have to wait for on DVD. Yes there will be an R-rated Director's cut DVD although they don't know the release date yet."

Apperantly alot of people complained to Anderson about stuff (like the bullet time face huggers) and you can read about his repsonses here:

You should try reading the boards (specifically Kreeper's previous post about Paul Anderson's "explanation" as to why AvP sucked so bad) before you post the same info over and over ad-nauseam.

Any movie that reminds me to do my Accounting homework has to suck. AVP looks too similar to A/P.
