Crystal Lake Memories

Some of the stills presented in the web gallery are simply incredible and goes to show that despite what some might think, real work went into these films. Paramount may not give a rats arse about the franchise but the people who made the films (and the book) certainly do. I can’t wait to add this tome to my collection.

Any additional thoughts on those photos, folks?

Overall, I think this book is gonna be phenomenal. Peter's a stellar writer (if you can't tell by his features over at DVD File) and has been working on the book since I've known him, and that's been a few years now. Memories has been long in the making. Can't wait to check out the whole thing.

Ever since I read the Evil Dead Companion four years ago I've been waiting for a serious book on Friday the 13th. 2005 is just to far away.

Not to get too wistful and sappy, but looking through these pics was like looking through a family scrapbook. Every picture was a rocket-powered bobsled back to the 80's, and all the good times and scares and sleepless nights the Friday franchise provided me.

And to hopefully put a bit of closure on the subject (for myself, anyways)... Yeah, Paramount treats the Friday films like crap. Yeah, the specs on the box set are a bit disappointing. But is that really what it's about? A book like this will be a special treat for us nostalgiac (yet forward-thinking) horror fans, a reminder of a simpler time when we weren't jaded by box office receipts, studio execs, and the quasi-ironic holier-than-thou posturing that has been adopted by fanboys like some ridiculous method of survival. This book will remind us all why we got into horror.

Kudos to everyone involved in the making of Crystal Lake Memories!

I'll be interested to see how this turns out. Paramount's treatment doesn't surprise me, because big studios are never huge supporters of horror flicks unless it's something that makes a shitload of money i.e. THE EXORCIST or THE SIXTH SENSE, and even then they try and tell everyone that it isn't horror but 'thriller'. I'm just happy there'll be a commentary on my favourite episode and a collection of it all. And let's face it, at least with Paramount we got some decent films. We may have had three stacked New Line DVDs, but the movies that they came with weren't exactly top dollar.

I'll be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan of Bracke's writing, but the guy has a rare thing: fanboy enthusiasm and a level head (except maybe for the ET incident), so I expect very good things.

Charles, what irks you about Bracke's style? I'm curious.

Boo-Yah! Couldn't have said it better myself!

*ace raises the roof for his new homeboy Charles B*

I know we all have a bit of a grudge against Paramount, but c'mon... they did birth the classics of the series.

I don't know, I just really don't find it too interesting. There's nothing there that really grabs me enough to make me keep reading all the while. I think it's a general thing at the 'file, so maybe it's a conscious choice with whatever style they go with.

He's still a much better writer than me though.
