Hopper in "Land of the Dead"

I'm surprised no one is talking about this...

Hopper's been in a TON of utter shit lately but maybe he'll be good in this film. At the moment I'm kinda indifferent. Didn't Romero say he wanted Asia Argento as well? Now THAT would get me all sorts of excited!

I'm right there with ya.

I posted it earlier today over in the "Submit News" forum.

I'd be looking forward to any Romero film, let alone a "Dead" film. Any news on this project is good news. Can't wait to see it.
Believe it or not, I have the first shot of Hopper on Land Of The Dead :

(Shoots Zombie)

Hopper-Don't You Fuckin' LOOK AT ME!!!!

(Shoots Zombie Again)

Seriously, this is great news. I've always liked Dennis, and I think he'll do a great job. Just not sure what character he's playing, but I'm sure he'll do a good job with it!
If it is true than this is a good developmet. Hopper has been in a hell of a lot of "Apocalyptic" movies so he is perfect for this series. I only hope that Romero casts "The Chin"-- maybe as an uber-Bub type zombie!
This is some good news. When Hopper's in a good movie he's good.

But it would be great if Asia Argento were in it. She needs to be in every movie.
I soooooo want Asia in this movie, but I also want to see Jen Vuckovic from Rue Morgue get into the movie somehow. I'm not saying it'll happen, but think about it:

Asia Argento+Jen Vuckovic+Zombies=GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!

Homerun in 52 countries! George, make it happen!
Asia in this would be perfect but I don't know about Hopper.
Chainsaw I think you may have something there!!

Yeah, this is great news. I like Hopper....but the main reason it's good news is it's just means the movie has taken one more step forward. I'm just so goddamned happy this movie is finally getting made!!!

I don't know about that. Bruce Campbell usually equals camp and I don't want LAND OF THE DEAD to be horror comedy like the EVIL DEAD flicks. It better be dead serious ...

Ditto to that. I'd guess that he'll be the biggest "well known" actor in it. Gotta have at least one to keep the studio happy I guess. If they bring on Kevin Costner, I'm going to get worried though. Smoker zombies on jet skis anyone???? We could call it Dusk of the Waterworld, Waterworld 2: Attack of the Smoker Zombies!!, I'm getting off topic here..............
This is good news I think. But I am I the only one who wants Asia Argento kept away from this at all costs? Maybe it is just because I think she is fucking nasty. Granted XXX sucked balls anyway, but I still can't believe she was the eye candy. I shudder just thinking about it.
I think anyday a dead movie has the villian from speed in it is a sad day. I wonder how long til we find out the soundtrack`s gonna be rap metal. i think this will be utter shit.

Gotta disagree w/ you there. Hopper's done some great parts in movies:
-Billy in Easy Rider
-the photo journalist in Apocalypse Now
-the chili-cookin maniac in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
-Clifford Worley in True Romance
-the mad bomber Howard Payne in Speed
-the Deacon in Waterworld

And yeah he's been in some shitty movies too (Super Mario Bros. as King Koopa) but he's always been great in them. Rap metal? This aint Paul Wank Stain Anderson or Uwe Boll directing this project. Never gonna happen in a Romero movie.

Romero needs to give Tom Savini a role in this movie. I'd fucking love it if his biker character "Blade" from DOTD came back as a zombie ringleader.

I think romero`s trying to make a buck by using familiar actors, i don`t think it would be illogical of him to use popular music too....but i hope you`re right.

I like seeing Hopper attached to this, but the thing that got my attention in this article was the budget. 16 Million. 16 fucking million?!? What the hell is that? I don't remember the exact ammount now (and I'm not looking it up) but I remember the DOTD remake to have been budgeted somewhere between 40 and 60 million. Yet, an honest to God Romero sequel get an straight to DVD like 16 mil? That's a bad omen. Even though Romero has always worked with low budgets and knows what to do with them, this just equals Fuck You from the studio. This movie is going to be ignored and shuffled aside. It's either straight to DVD or it's a small, shitty run and will not be seen by the average fan until it's be in the can for three or four years. Is the script reall as bad as some early reports have said or is this just another case of the studios not respecting the innovator because of his vision? Either way, this is going to be a much cheaper film than it deserves to be. I know the Dead series, it's remakes and Romero's name has made people enough money, as have zombie films in general, to earn this film a larger budget. Just what is the problem here? It deserves at least the right to sign actors like Dennis Hopper and Asia Argento without spending so much of it's budget that the blood is the wrong color or red.

Space Truckers with zombies. Fantastic.

Nah, I actually think Hopper could be excellent. Depends how he is written. I think if he needs to play someone a little toned down as he has a tendency to overplay scenes but when he's good he's great.

Given the direction of the actors in Day, overplaying would be a down-tone.

In a video game movie I made, I have as the opening scene, the captain's monologue "I'm in charge now frankenstein... where does it say we should do any one thing but shoot the mothers in the head"

I have the video clip up on my site somewhere, it makes me bust out laughin everytime i see it.

I can't wait for Hopper's speech were he describes how zombies were spawned by the "N bomb."

"Slow it down man! Zombies aren't supposed to run! Slow it down!"

He's in some stuff that's not camp. And besides all movies are better with some Chin.

No doubt about it! I think that Campbell would be perfect in this series as an uber-zombie. He has the physical acting thing down pat. Paired with his wonderfully expressive facial features (monster CHIN) he could be Bub's sucessor.
Man, if Campbell was actually ever in all the favorite director's new movies, he's be one rich cat.

Campbell seems to be mentioned for every new horror movie being made for the next decade.
I can totally see Hopper yelling, "Choke on itttt!"
Has this actually been confirmes at all?

I heard that Romero's hero in Dead Reckoning, which seems to be what Land of the Dead is based on, was a black guy - which caused some problems with his white girlfriend's rich father who was in charge of one of the walled up cities.

Hopper don't sound black to me...

Maybe he's the corrupt father/leader or something.

That'd be cool...

If so, you just know he's going to die a gruesome death.
Judging by Romero's previous lead choices, I don't think that Hopper w/ play the lead. He will probably use another ethnic minority as the lead. Hopper may likely be the guy in charge of the rich cats in the walled cities. I'm sure that we'll loathe his character and will cheer when he becomes zombie grub.

It looks as though someone else may have been cast for LOTD!

Taken from HorrorChannel.com:
During a panel at this past weekend's Rue Morgue Festival of Fear convention up in Toronto, Tom Savini gave the crowd quite an earful in terms of what his role in the 4th installment of Romero's legendary film series could be.

Picture this if you will: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of the last "living strongholds" on the planet, is completely cordoned off. Droves of hungry zombies are clawing at the city’s borders, desperately trying to get a taste of the only "fresh meat" around. The city is patrolled and protected by a tank called "The Dead Reckoning." Every tank needs a crew. Every crew needs a leader. Enter Tom Savini.

Savini is in negotiations to co-star in the film as one of the leaders of a salvage team that goes out in the Dead Reckoning to search for supplies and/or survivors. It gets more interesting than this though, folks. Savini mentioned that one of George's plans for him is to run into and kill Blades, his original character from Dawn. As you can imagine, Blades is pretty much the worse for wear and will have a bloated look as he met his "earthly" demise in a fountain some time ago.

According to Ryan's report, nothing is official right now; this is just what's on the table. George has stated that no one has officially signed onto the project as of yet except for KNB, which will be providing what I am sure will be the best Dead FX ever. Romero has also stated that he's very interested in having Asia Argento onboard for the project, but again, nothing is for sure.

One thing I can tell you is VERY much for sure though! The future has never been darker, and that spells heaven for the horror fan!

I already called this one! It is a fantastic development though!
Savini killing off Blades would be a great way to pass the torch. Hopefully that makes it into the movie. Good stuff.
So would that be a PJ in BAD TASTE style Savini vs Savini deal? That would be awesome.
BRING KEN FOREE BACK INTO THIS SERIES.
After all, his character survived the mall in Dawn. Since all of these movies (except Day I think) are supposed to be based around Pittsburgh. Why couldn't he have survived and still be kicking ass in Land? It would be a really cool development indeed if Foree's character were to show up in this movie.

Savini is notorious for taking rumors and reporting them as news, especially at conventions.

I remember right before he was directing his NOTLD remake, that he said

A) Michael Ironside was cast as Harry Cooper - it was a done deal

B) The zomboes' point of view shots would be in black and white, with the people outlined in color

...and this was HIS movie he was reporting on, so take the above news with a grain of salt:

It is definite that Romero will have Savini in the movie, and probably for the part mentioned...but as for anything else, let's just wait and see

(FYI - Savini, if the Dead Reckoning script is still somewhat followed, will probably be the 2nd in command of the monster truck, who rebels against the lead/hero and takes over)

That would've made the film almost perfect.

I wish Romero would have Savini play Sex Machine (from FROM DUSK TILL DAWN)... a bit over-the-top, but it's a zombie film, after all...

a little off topic but still Romero, has anyone heard anything about the City of the Dead video game
and here is a little bit from the message board at Brian Keene 's site

Brian: "The sequel will carry the original title, More Than Infinity. At least--the Delirium version will. The Leisure version will carry the title City of the Dead. Same sequel--different titles."

Re: THE (Alternate) RISING? I really appreciate the response, thanks. Goofy thing is, I just read that on your blog before I came here, lol. Thanks, again, for taking the time.

Concerning the sequel, is CITY OF THE DEAD a title you've proposed to Leisure; or vice versa? And why am I starting to think if I dig through your journal more I'll find the answer there... ?

Re: THE (Alternate) RISING? CITY OF THE DEAD was one we both agreed on. Leisure asked for a different title, so Don D'Auria (my editor there) and myself each came up with a list of other titles. CITY OF THE DEAD was one that we both liked. It also fits the storyline really well (since most of the book takes place in New York City).

As for the Blog--heh. The answers to all of life's questions can be found there.

Re: THE (Alternate) RISING? Brian:

Was just wondering, since Romero has now announced his intentions to be part of a computer game called CITY OF THE DEAD, if that will alter the title of your upcoming book?

Or---are the game and book connected, somehow?

Re: THE (Alternate) RISING? Nope. It has now become a race against time.

Dig this...the fourth Romero dead movie (as announced last month) supposedly involves a bunch of people trapped in a skyscraper.

MORE THAN INFINITY (as it's known in hardcover) and CITY OF THE DEAD (as it's known in paperback) involves a bunch of people trapped in a skyscraper.

the company making the dead game basically paid romero for the use of the term

George A. Romero presents
City of the Dead

he say's he has no control in it at all

he does have a little say if he agrees with certian things

but the company is more or less moveing along without him untill he gets his final aproval or something.

I think Ryan Rotten recorded the Q and A so he may answer more with his run down of the show later this week

Romero vetoed that idea because he said that would make the zombies entities, when he felt they should be kept anonymous.

Savini had lots of ideas for NOTLD '90, but he apparently had a lot of interference and had the film taken off him for post-production.

But Savini does talk a lot of shit, from what I've seen/heard/read. He's still da man, though.
